Chapter 339 Do Not Scare My Wife
When Johnson heard that Clara had succeeded, he was over the moon and almost bolted to their room right away.
Luckily, he managed to keep his cool.
But when Clara asked about Katniss over the phone, he was at a loss for words.
Just as he was about to say something, Clara whispered, "I gotta go out, we'll talk later."
In the hotel room's bathroom, Clara hung up, quickly changed her clothes, took a deep breath while looking at the door, and then walked out.
Ethan was visibly flustered, even though they were both fully dressed now.
Clara forced a tear and looked at Ethan timidly, "I'm heading home now, you should leave too. About last night..."
Before she could finish, Ethan cut her off, suddenly asking, "Do you want to date me? To get engaged."
Clara was stunned.
She hadn't expected Ethan to bring up engagement, and he seemed ready to act on it immediately.
"If you don't want to, I can compensate you in other ways," Ethan said, rubbing his temples helplessly.
He had checked the room while Clara was freshening up.
It seemed Clara had booked the room, and he was the one who had barged in.
He hadn't drunk much last night, yet his memory was fragmented.
He only remembered seeing Sophia off from the hotel and returning to the banquet hall, but nothing after that.
He could investigate last night's events later.
The matter at hand needed immediate attention.
Clara bit her lip and asked, "Is that okay?"
As if afraid Ethan would answer too quickly, she added, "About the engagement, will your family agree?"
Clara's voice was small, but Ethan heard her.
He frowned in thought before saying, "It's fine, don't worry about them."
Clara felt slightly relieved and nodded reservedly, responding softly, "Alright then."
Ethan simply nodded and asked, "Shall I take you home?"
The atmosphere between them was awkward.
Clara nodded and felt a sense of relief.
Despite Ethan's high status and family background, she couldn't bring herself to like him.
But fortunately, Ethan didn't seem to dislike her.
As long as she could hold onto Ethan, she would have a foothold in Starhaven.
With different thoughts in their minds, they left the hotel quietly.
Meanwhile, Katniss and Maximilian had just finished breakfast when they received an unexpected visit.
Patrick smiled at Katniss and asked, "Maximilian, is this your wife? Mrs. Hamilton, hello."
The man beside Patrick also greeted Katniss, "Mrs. Hamilton."
Katniss was taken aback and felt a bit uncomfortable. Moreover, their scrutiny was a bit too obvious.
"Don't scare my wife," Maximilian warned the two men, his tone unfriendly as he stepped in front of Katniss.
"We're not scary-looking, how could we scare her? Come on, Maximilian, let me introduce myself to Mrs. Hamilton."
Katniss tugged on Maximilian's sleeve from behind and nodded at him.
"Hello, I'm Katniss," she introduced herself, peeking out from behind Maximilian.
Patrick quickly said, "I'm Patrick Reynolds, and this is Chris Peterson. We're buddies with Maximilian."
Chris smiled and added, "Nice to meet you, Mrs. Hamilton."
"Hi," Katniss responded, feeling a bit flattered, and glanced at Maximilian.
Maximilian spoke up, "Let's head inside."
They all entered the room, and Patrick immediately started looking around, intrigued. "You didn't let me see this place when it was being decorated. Now that I see it, it doesn't quite match the style of Starhaven."
Maximilian, holding Katniss's hand, casually replied, "Yeah, it's a bit different."
The house was almost a replica of Golden Crest Estates, with the decor entirely in the style of Luminous City, different from Starhaven.
After they sat down, Katniss went to the kitchen to prepare drinks, leaving the men to their conversation.
Patrick waited until Katniss was gone before bringing up last night's events.
"I asked those two people, but they wouldn't admit to being instructed by anyone. They just said they saw a guest sleeping on the couch and moved her to a guest room to keep her from catching a cold."
Patrick rolled his eyes as he spoke.
Although he had gotten this information, he didn't believe it.
"Under normal circumstances, they would have confirmed things before moving someone to a room. What I saw on the surveillance footage was different. Those two had been extremely cautious, almost sneaky, as if afraid of waking her up."
Maximilian said, "Thanks for your help last night."
If Patrick hadn't quickly hacked into the surveillance and told him the room number, he couldn't imagine the consequences.
"By the way, is Mrs. Hamilton okay? From the footage, she suddenly passed out, which seemed unusual," Patrick asked.
Maximilian shook his head. "Katniss is fine. The doctor didn't find anything wrong."
Worried about Katniss's health, he had the doctor check her multiple times and even had blood tests done.
However, the test results would take a few days.
Patrick sighed, "Then we might not find out much. Just make sure she's careful from now on."
"I will," Maximilian nodded.
Last night's incident had scared him. He had warned himself and instructed Conrad to ensure no one would have another opportunity.
Chris, sitting next to Patrick, had been quietly observing the room. Although he listened to their conversation, he remained silent.
After discussing last night's events, Maximilian turned to Chris and asked, "Not busy lately? How come you're here with him?"
"Not busy," Chris replied, sounding disinterested and resigned.
Patrick chimed in, "He's not just not busy, he's completely idle. He even organized a drinking party last night. Too bad we didn't know you were in Starhaven, Maximilian."
Maximilian raised an eyebrow in surprise. "Did something happen?"
"My dad kicked me out," Chris shrugged helplessly. "The company doesn't need my help anymore."
Maximilian had heard about the complicated situation in Chris's family before, but he hadn't expected it to get this bad.
Chris being kicked out of the Peterson family was a big deal.
Seeing Maximilian's concern, Chris sighed and began to explain.
Patrick, having heard Chris's story before, got bored and headed to the kitchen to help.
