Chapter 377 Not Like a Businessman

Conrad smoothly parked the car in front of Maximilian's company.

Katniss stepped out and immediately tried calling Maximilian, but he didn't pick up. She figured he was probably busy.

Having been to Maximilian's company many times, Katniss wasn't too concerned. She walked in as usual.

As soon as she stepped out of the elevator on Maximilian's office floor, she ran into Chris coming out of a meeting room.

"Katniss, what brings you here?" Chris asked, surprised.

"I need to talk to Maximilian."

If it weren't for the training starting tonight, she wouldn't have rushed to see him.

After meeting Maximilian, she had to go home and pack, likely leaving before he finished work.

Chris nodded understandingly but hesitated. "Maximilian is in a meeting. I'll take you to his office to wait."

Katniss nodded. Since Maximilian hadn't answered her call, she guessed he was in a meeting.

Chris's confirmation didn't surprise her.

Chris led Katniss to the office and had someone bring her coffee before he went back to his tasks.

He was probably the busiest person in the company, often negotiating with business partners in the meeting room.

But today, the woman who came insisted on meeting Maximilian alone and claimed to be from Luminous City.

Chris couldn't help but worry about Maximilian.

He was concerned that Katniss might feel uncomfortable knowing the person meeting with Maximilian was a woman from Luminous City.

Suddenly, a noise came from the meeting room. Being nearby, Chris went in to check.

He found the woman apologizing to Maximilian, "Mr. Hamilton, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to spill the coffee on you."

She tried to help clean up, but Maximilian coldly stood up and moved away. "I'll go change," he said icily.

Seeing Chris at the door, Maximilian nodded. "Chris, please have someone clean up the table."

The woman froze, noticing Chris. Chris looked at the messy table and sofa, then said, "I'll have someone come in to clean."

"No need!" the woman refused. "I'll clean it myself. Our business discussion is confidential."

Chris nodded and left, feeling the woman wasn't there for business but to seduce Maximilian.

After all, who brings a suitcase to a business meeting? And she didn't even introduce herself before demanding to see Maximilian. If Maximilian hadn't known her, Chris wouldn't have let her in.

As the vice president of Maximilian's Starhaven branch, Chris didn't even know the woman's name.

Chris waited nearby, worried. When Maximilian returned in fresh clothes, Chris quickly asked, "Who is she?"

"Yasmin," Maximilian replied, giving Chris a look before heading back to the meeting room. "This collaboration is worth a try."

Just a name wasn't enough for Chris to figure out Yasmin's identity or motives.

Remembering Katniss waiting for Maximilian, Chris couldn't leave her hanging. After delivering coffee to the meeting room, he returned to the office.

But he couldn't focus, thinking about Yasmin's behavior. He felt uneasy.

Katniss, however, didn't notice Chris's discomfort. She reviewed the test steps in her mind, then opened her eyes to see Chris's concerned look.

"What's wrong, Chris?" Katniss asked. She knew Chris and Patrick well through Maximilian.

Chris hesitated but finally said, "Katniss, the person meeting with Maximilian is a woman from Luminous City. She insisted on talking to him alone and kept staring at him. You should be careful."

Katniss thought for a moment, realizing Chris was warning her not to let another woman take Maximilian. She smiled and thanked him. "Maximilian wouldn't do anything to hurt me."

Chris, relieved but still worried, said, "I know he wouldn't. I trust his character."

Katniss let him continue, knowing he had more to say.

"But that woman kept trying to get close to him," Chris added. "After the coffee spill, I went to check and saw her trying to get near him."

Though Maximilian avoided her, Chris feared Katniss might misunderstand and cause a rift between them.

Katniss nodded. "I understand."

Just as Chris worried that she was too unconcerned, Katniss asked, "Is her name Yasmin?"

"You know her?" Chris sighed in relief, realizing Katniss was aware.

"Yes, her name is Yasmin." Chris had thought Maximilian's single name mention was useless, but now it proved helpful.

Yasmin had come straight to see Maximilian with her suitcase, looking more like she was seeking refuge than discussing business.

Maximilian and Chris were surprised by her sudden appearance, but Maximilian was interested in her proposal and agreed to talk.

Katniss knowing about Yasmin beforehand showed she cared about Maximilian and didn't want to lose him.

Chris felt relieved.

Katniss didn't know what Chris was thinking, but seeing his relaxed expression, she knew he wasn't as worried anymore.
