Chapter 447 No More Going Out to Play
Ryan, whom Clara was worried about, was currently sitting dejectedly in a police station.
Fortunately, they wouldn't be held for long.
He thought that as soon as he could get in touch with Clara, she could pull some strings and get him out on bail.
But he couldn't reach Clara, which made him extremely frustrated.
"Still can't get through?" Despite his frustration, Ryan remained polite when asking the officer.
The officer put down the phone and replied, "No, still can't get through."
Ryan felt deflated and was already planning how to make Clara regret treating him so lightly.
Meanwhile, Lucas had already arrived in Starhaven.
After learning from Elodie that Dylan was in the police station, he spent a day wrapping up his affairs before rushing to Starhaven.
His timing was off, though, as Elodie had gone to the hospital when he arrived.
Lucas, realizing he hadn't seen Nathan in a while, decided to head to the hospital.
Elodie was at the hospital, but not in Nathan's room.
She was talking to Nathan's doctor about his condition.
After learning that Nathan had fainted again today, she couldn't stop crying.
The doctor comforted her briefly before sending her out of the office.
Elodie quickly composed herself and went to see Nathan.
"Mom." Nathan, who had been staring blankly in his room, called out when he saw Elodie enter.
Seeing Nathan's condition, Elodie couldn't hold back her tears.
"Mom, please don't cry," Nathan quickly tried to comfort her.
Elodie said, "I know, I'll find a way. Your illness will be cured. Don't think about anything else."
There was a certain determination in her eyes that left Nathan momentarily stunned.
Nathan pressed his lips together and didn't respond.
Elodie didn't say much more, not wanting to upset Nathan.
After a long silence, Nathan finally said, "Mom, don't worry. You should go home soon. I don't feel comfortable leaving Clara alone."
Elodie glanced at the time and nodded.
"Alright, I'll head back."
Clara should be home from school by now.
However, just as she was about to leave the hospital, she received a call from Lucas.
Lucas had arrived in Starhaven and said no one was home.
Elodie was puzzled.
At this time, Clara should be home. Could she have gone to the hospital too?
Lucas didn't give her much time to think.
Upon hearing she was at the hospital, he immediately said he would come over.
She wanted to stop him, but thought Clara might be on her way to the hospital, so she held back.
Elodie decided to call Clara.
When she tried, she found Clara's phone was off.
Elodie was even more puzzled and felt a growing sense of unease.
When Lucas arrived at the hospital, he saw Elodie's swollen eyes from crying.
"Mom, why have you been crying so much?" Lucas asked with concern, though there was a hint of criticism in his eyes that he didn't notice.
Elodie felt a bit awkward but was relieved to see Lucas.
She contemplated that help had finally come. Elodie looked at Lucas.
This was the first time she had seen Lucas since waking up from her coma.
For some reason, she felt a distance between them.
Lucas noticed Elodie's unease and asked, "Mom, are you feeling okay? Did you get all the necessary check-ups after waking up? How about I go with you for a full check-up?"
Elodie quickly shook her head. "No need for more check-ups. I'm fine. The doctor said my coma was due to a blood clot in my brain, and now that it's gone, I'm okay."
After waking up, Dylan had taken her for a full check-up, which was so extensive it made her dizzy.
She didn't want to go through that again.
Lucas didn't insist after hearing this.
Elodie, however, was reminded of Dylan and felt a pang of sadness.
Dylan was still in custody, and as his mother, she felt helpless and had to rely on Lucas for help, which made her feel even worse.
Lucas didn't notice Elodie's thoughts and suddenly asked, "Mom, where's Nathan's room? I want to see him first."
Compared to Elodie, who had been in a coma but was now lively, Nathan's never fully recovered condition worried Lucas more.
Elodie, already feeling down about Dylan, felt another pang of sadness when Lucas mentioned Nathan.
"I'll take you. It's been a while since you saw Nathan. You should catch up."
Lucas followed Elodie without saying much.
Elodie didn't speak either, thinking that perhaps their relationship had grown distant over time.
But for some reason, she suddenly thought of Oliver.
After causing trouble, Oliver had been sent back to Luminous City. He should be there with Lucas now, right?
Could Lucas's coldness be because of Oliver?
Elodie tried to convince herself that Lucas wouldn't be influenced by Oliver, but she couldn't shake the fear that Oliver was behind it.
Finally, she couldn't hold back.
"How's your dad been lately?"
Lucas was surprised by the sudden question about Oliver and turned to look at Elodie, trying to gauge her expression.
Seeing Elodie looking at the ground, seemingly calm, he said, "Mom, Dad hasn't been going out much lately."
Oliver hadn't been going out because he was low on money.
Previously, Oliver had racked up a $100,000 debt at a Starhaven casino, which Lucas had to cover from afar.
After warning Oliver, things had been relatively calm.
"Good," Elodie responded lightly, as if she didn't care.
Lucas, seeing she had no more questions, didn't say more.
Oliver had taken to drinking at home, but Lucas didn't mind as long as he stayed home.
So, they got along reasonably well.
Lucas continued following Elodie until she stopped at a room.
When Elodie opened the door, Lucas saw Nathan's pale face.
Nathan hadn't been told Lucas was coming, so he was surprised to see him.
But he quickly understood why Elodie had kept it a secret, as they soon started discussing how to help Dylan and find Katniss.
