Chapter 415 Only You Will Be

Max nodded, "I'm with you all the way."

Honestly, if Katniss decided to go abroad for training, he'd probably tag along.

But he kept that to himself for now, not wanting to add any pressure on her.

Katniss nodded too. Hearing Max's words made her happy, but she couldn't shake the emptiness she felt inside.

Ignoring her mixed emotions, she continued, "If I don't pass the test, I'll head back to Luminous City."

She still had her studies to finish, and if she didn't pass, going back to complete her education was a given.

But the thought of returning to Luminous City made her feel hesitant and conflicted.

She knew Max's branch office in Starhaven was thriving. He had come to Starhaven to be with her, but if she had to go back to Luminous City.

Before she could finish her thoughts, Max's firm voice interrupted, "I'll go back with you."

Katniss was taken aback.

Before she could ask, Max's words echoed in her ears again, "Luminous City is our home."

Katniss felt a warmth spread through her heart and asked softly, "What about the Starhaven branch?"

Max gently patted her head, ruffling her hair, "Chris can handle it."

If it were anyone else, he might not be so confident, but Chris was capable and trustworthy.

Seeing that his mind was made up, Katniss didn't argue.

Soon, their group of four cars arrived at a quiet restaurant.

It was dinner time, and this restaurant wasn't chosen for any special reason, just because it was on their way home and offered privacy for discussions.

Max's car led the way, with Emma's car following closely behind.

Desmond, once in the car, shrank into a corner, trying to make himself as inconspicuous as possible.

As they got out, Emma gave him a disdainful look.

After signaling her men to bring Desmond along, Emma switched from a cold expression to a cheerful one as she got out of the car.

"Mr. Hamilton," Emma glanced at the restaurant's sign.

Compared to the upscale places she frequented, this one was more understated but still classy.

She looked at the sign and felt even more satisfied with Max. It reaffirmed her opinion of his taste and, by extension, her own.

Max responded coolly, his attention entirely on Katniss.

"What do you think? Want to eat here?" Max asked.

Katniss nodded, "This place is fine."

"If it doesn't suit our taste, we can find another," Max said, wrapping an arm around Katniss as they headed for the entrance.

Emma's expression stiffened as she watched Max ignore her and walk off with Katniss. She glared at Desmond, who was being escorted by her men.

Desmond, already terrified of Emma, felt his legs go weak. If he weren't being held up by the bodyguards, he might have collapsed.

"Ms. Kate?" he stammered, unsure of what he had done to anger her.

Emma's men were rough, and he feared another beating.

Emma just snorted and walked towards the entrance.

The bodyguards followed, dragging Desmond along, while Emma's attitude kept him on edge.

As they entered, the restaurant manager, noticing Max's presence, quickly approached with enthusiasm.

After a brief greeting, he led them down a hallway lined with private dining rooms.

Desmond, still being held, was ignored by the manager.

The bodyguards stayed close, escorting them into a private room.

The room had a square table, elegant yet understated.

Desmond was seated next to Emma, while Max and Katniss sat across from them.

The manager personally attended to them, bringing two thick, beautiful menus and pouring water while eagerly describing the house specialties.

Max casually ordered some dishes and pushed the menu towards Katniss. She didn't mind Emma sitting across from them and earnestly picked out more dishes with Max.

Emma watched them closely, sitting opposite, and saw their intimate interaction.

Seeing their closeness made Emma's eyes burn with jealousy.

Especially when she saw their hands touching as they looked through the menu, Emma felt a sharp pain in her eyes.

The scene was too much for her.

Max was outstanding and gentlemanly, while Katniss was nothing special.

Just getting Katniss out of the training program wouldn't be enough to satisfy her.

She glared at Katniss, who was still engrossed in the menu with Max.

Emma flipped through her menu and ordered a couple of dishes, her mind already plotting.

If it weren't for Max's presence, she wouldn't even bother with this meal.

After ordering, the manager left with the menus, leaving the four of them alone.

"Ms. Kate, why are you staring at me?" Katniss looked up, meeting Emma's hostile gaze, and asked casually.

Emma's animosity was blatant, with no attempt to hide it, whether in public or private.

This made Katniss think that Emma, at least, was more straightforward than Clara.

At least Emma seemed more honest.

"Just wondering what makes you so special to Mr. Hamilton. I've been looking, but I don't see it," Emma sneered, her insult about Katniss's appearance coming easily.

She didn't even try to hide it from Max.

After all, she was confident in her looks.

Anyone with a normal sense of aesthetics would choose her over Katniss.

Not to mention, she had the family background that Katniss couldn't compete with.

She even knew that Max's branch in Starhaven wasn't doing well.

But if she offered her help, things would improve significantly.

"Ms. Kate, watch your words."

Max's cold gaze swept over her, full of warning.

His icy, warning tone shattered Emma's fantasies.

As Emma reeled from his words, Max turned to Katniss with a near-gentle tone, "Don't listen to her. You're the most beautiful to me."

Katniss's heart raced. She hadn't expected Max to reassure her after warning Emma.

Seeing his determined and serious expression, Katniss felt her eyes sting with emotion.

She reached out and held Max's hand. "I know."

She had long been certain of her feelings for Max and wouldn't be swayed by Emma's provocations.

Max's care for her was evident to anyone who wasn't blind.

Though she wasn't particularly savvy in matters of the heart, she could deeply feel the passion beneath Max's cold exterior.

Hearing Katniss's response, a faint smile appeared on Max's usually stern expression.

But he still felt it wasn't enough, so he added, "You are my wife, and you will always be my wife."

This statement was meant not just for Katniss but also as a warning to Emma.
