Chapter 100 The Second Choice Was Fine

Douglas wasn't unwilling to spend the money to retract those news articles; he just believed in Regina. He believed she wouldn't go back to Philip because of his tactics.

He was also testing her.

Testing if she would go back to Philip because of his tactics.

Charles seemed like a carefree man on the surface, but he was actually very perceptive.

He said, "Douglas, don't let your guard down. Keep a close eye on Philip. After all, they had a solid six-year relationship, and your flash marriage is built on shaky ground. I think Philip is planning a grand gesture to win Regina back. What if they rekindle their old flame and you become the second choice?"

'The second choice?'

Douglas heard this and let out a self-deprecating laugh.

He had already been the second choice before.

"Being the second choice is fine too," Douglas said nonchalantly, but those light words felt like a needle piercing his heart. The wound was small, not big enough to cause bleeding, but it still ached.

Charles thought he was hearing things. 'The second choice is fine too? Those words sounded so humble and lowly. How could they come from Douglas?'

"I'm serious, Douglas. Don't be too confident in yourself, don't trust Regina too much, and don't underestimate their six-year past relationship," Charles said in an unusually serious tone. "You should be more cautious. If they show any signs of rekindling their relationship, you must stop them immediately."

Douglas had no patience left. He said, "Enough." Then he hung up the phone.

In fact, no matter what others said, he chose to believe in Regina.

Even if one day Regina decided to go back to Philip, he wouldn't blame her.

He would only blame himself for not being good enough to keep her by his side.

Regina slept until the next morning. She rubbed her sleepy eyes and looked out the window.

The sky was just beginning to lighten.

Looking around, Regina realized she was lying in Douglas's room, her head resting on his arm, having slept through the night.

She carefully moved her body, trying to get up without waking him to get a glass of water.

But as soon as she turned, Douglas woke up.

She knew Douglas had been very busy and tired lately, with little time to rest, and he wasn't an easy sleeper. Her movement probably woke him up.

"Sorry," Regina said softly, her voice a bit hoarse.

Douglas hugged her from behind. "It's still early. Stay with me a little longer."

"Can you still sleep?" Regina asked.

"If you're here, I probably can," Douglas said.

So, Regina stayed still.

Behind her, he closed his eyes again, his even breaths warm against her neck.

Regina felt something hard behind her. It was like a steel rod, pressing against her. Douglas's penis was impressive in size, even in its normal state.

Now, it was just his unconscious morning reaction.

Regina was sure Douglas had fallen back asleep holding her, unaware of her discomfort. She couldn't wake him up just to tell him he was making her uncomfortable.

Regina bit her lip and said nothing.

When Douglas woke up, it was already fully bright outside.

It was raining heavily, with strong winds, making people reluctant to get out of bed. Regina just wanted to stay under the covers and sleep in.

But Regina thought carefully about Douglas's schedule for the day. "Mr. Semona, shouldn't you get up? You have a meeting at ten..."

Before she could finish, Douglas interrupted her with a husky, desire-laden voice, "We are not going."

"Not going? Why?" Regina asked.

"Nothing, just taking a day off," Douglas mumbled.

Douglas had already informed his team last night to push back all his appointments for the day. He was worried that the high-intensity schedule would exhaust Regina.

Everyone who worked for Douglas knew he was a workaholic.

His sudden day off left everyone at a loss.

Regina looked at Douglas lying in bed with her, feeling like he was no longer the same Douglas.

She blamed herself for this change, thinking she had disrupted his work schedule.

But since the schedule was already postponed, they might as well enjoy the day.

Watching the rain outside, Regina wrapped herself tightly in the blanket, leaving only her head exposed. Douglas suddenly propped himself up on one elbow, looking down at Regina.

His eyes were filled with affection and indulgence, confusing her rationality.

Regina felt a bit uncomfortable under his gaze.

Just as she was about to look away, he leaned down and kissed her on the ear.

Regina shivered involuntarily.

They had only done it once, and he had already figured out all her sensitive spots.

He was clearly filled with burning desire, yet he was suppressing it.

Regina thought that with his personality, he was the type to stay clear-headed and rational even in the throes of passion.

Sure enough, after a while, he got out of bed. "You sleep a bit more."

"What about you?" she asked.

"I got some things to handle," he replied.

She didn't know what he was handling, only that he didn't come back to the bedroom for a long time. Regina dozed off for another two hours.

Fully rested, she felt energetic.

Since the weather was bad, going out wasn't as appealing idea, so Regina decided to watch a movie to pass the time.

She wrapped herself in a blanket and found a comfortable position on the couch.

When Douglas came back, he brought her favorite food.

Regina enjoyed it leisurely.

Halfway through lunch, Nicole, who hadn't contacted her in days, sent a cautious message: [Regina, have you made up with Douglas?]

Regina honestly replied that they had.

Nicole let out a heavy sigh of relief: [You scared me. When you two weren't getting along, the whole family was on edge.]

Regina thought she had tried her best to hide it. Had it really caused such a stir?

She felt a bit guilty: [Sorry for worrying you.]

Nicole was straightforward: [We were really worried. Douglas is so stubborn. He tends to keep a lot of things from you, which could lead to misunderstandings between you two.]

'Keeping things from me? Misunderstandings?' Regina wondered.

Regina thought of that night at the Seasons Hotel.

She struggled internally for a while before replying to Nicole: [Do you know what else Douglas is keeping from me?]

[Of course I do.] Nicole replied. [Do you know he's liked you for many years?]
