Chapter 230 He was with her Every Step of the Way

Regina was chilling in the busy restaurant, laughing and chatting with Miranda while munching on her food, when she heard a huge ruckus outside.

A cacophony of screams and frantic car honks pierced through Regina's ears.

Her hand, holding the fork, froze for a second.

Miranda bolted outside and saw the horrific scene, her jaw dropping in shock.

Listening to the bits and pieces of conversations around her, Regina pieced together what had happened and decided not to go out and look.

She just sat there, quiet and dazed, for what felt like forever.

She couldn't really remember how she left the restaurant.

But she did remember steering clear of the accident scene.

It wasn't until a month or two later that Regina overheard Miranda describing the accident.

"The front ends of both cars were smashed up, car parts everywhere, people inside were trapped and dead, and blood was all over the ground."

Philip survived that awful crash.

But he was in a coma for months in the hospital.

The whole thing was a big deal, making headlines for days.

There were all sorts of theories about what really happened.

For a while, everything just got more and more confusing.

During that time, Regina barely paid attention to the news. She was lost in her own world, hanging out with Matt and Lily and prepping for her exams.

Regina never said a word about the accident.

Douglas didn't bring it up either.

They never had a serious talk about Philip's situation.

They both knew that whatever happened to Philip now, it wouldn't change a thing in Regina's life.

To her, Philip was already a ghost from the past.

Douglas didn't feel insecure or suspicious about anything related to Philip anymore.

He knew Regina's love for him was rock solid.

In November, the FSOT exam rolled around.

The day before Regina's exam, Douglas was still tied up with a new project in Kensington. It was such a tough project that he'd been there for a week.

But on the day of Regina's exam, he surprised her by showing up in Oriant City.

Regina stared at the well-dressed Douglas in disbelief. "Why are you back? When I video-called you last night, weren't you still in the conference room?"

He smiled and pulled her into a hug.

After a week apart, feeling her warmth again made his heart race.

"How could I miss such an important moment in your life?"

Having missed seven years with her, he wasn't about to miss any more big moments.

Regina half-joked, "I was a little nervous, but your sudden appearance..."

Douglas waited eagerly for her next words, but she playfully blinked and changed her tone, "Your sudden appearance made me even more nervous!"

Douglas went quiet.

"What if I don't do well and let you down?"

"You could never let me down. No matter what, you're always my pride."

Douglas's words were like sweet honey.

Regina felt super happy and got really motivated.

When she walked out of the exam room, she spotted the Maybach parked in the distance and the man in a suit holding flowers, waiting for her.

Regina ran towards him and crashed into his arms.

"Finally done with the exam." He patted her head affectionately. "What reward do you want?"

"The exam results aren't out yet. How can I ask for a reward?"

"Think of it as an early celebration."

"But what if..."

Regina wanted to say, what if she didn't pass?

But she swallowed the words.

This time, she felt really good about herself, so no matter the result, it was worth celebrating.

That night after the exam, Regina asked Douglas for many 'rewards.'

Luckily, she didn't disappoint anyone and passed the FSOT exam with flying colors.

Next up was the interview.

The interview was scheduled before the end of the year, giving Regina a few days to prepare.

A new year was just around the corner.

Regina sat in her study, looking through her notes and the thick books she had read, feeling a sense of fulfillment.

While she pursued her career and dreams, Douglas, Matt, and Lily provided a grounding stability in her life.

Speaking of Matt and Lily, Regina felt a sense of accomplishment.

They could now say simple words like daddy and mommy.

They could walk and run, albeit a bit wobbly, but seeing them stumble towards her made Regina feel like the center of their universe.

A few days later, Regina attended the interview.

Even though it was a tough exam, Regina handled it with ease.

The interview results came out quickly.

She passed the assessment, and her name was prominently listed on the State Department's acceptance list.

When the Semona family heard the good news, they clamored to celebrate her, even pushing Douglas to the back.

Douglas felt a bit envious, but seeing Regina's happiness, he held back.

He watched them celebrate all day like a bystander, and it wasn't until the evening that he could celebrate with Regina alone.

"Congrats, your wishes came true."

"Wishes come true" was a beautiful phrase.

But for Regina, achieving her wishes was no longer a surprise.

Over the years, many of her wishes had come true.

She had accomplished what she wanted and become the person she wanted to be.

Thanks to Douglas, who was with her every step of the way.
