Chapter 236 Journey Through the Rest of Life with him

The news about Philip's death could've been a big deal, but Mars managed to keep it under wraps.

Mars found a letter in Philip's hospital room.

It felt like a key to some hidden secret.

His fingers shook a bit as he opened it.

But when he saw the first line, he quickly shut the envelope like he'd been shocked.

It wasn't Philip's last words, and it wasn't meant for Mars.

He clutched the letter tight and rushed out of the room.

Regina had some downtime recently.

On the weekend, Matt and Lily were begging to go play with Nancy.

As luck would have it, Nancy was also heading back to Semona Estate for the weekend, so Regina drove them over.

After dropping them off, she didn't head straight home but went to the Century Group building instead.

Unlike her relaxed vibe, Douglas had been swamped lately.

She pushed open the office door and saw Douglas at his desk, eyes glued to the computer screen.

Hearing the door, he looked up, a bit surprised to see her. "Mrs. Semona?"

Regina closed the door and walked over with a smile, saying casually, "I missed you, so I came to see you."

Douglas thought, 'Missed me? Didn't we just see each other this morning?'

He was puzzled but couldn't hide his happiness.

As soon as she got close, he pulled her onto his lap.

In a lazy, teasing tone, he asked, "What did you miss about me, Mrs. Semona?"

She was thinking about the time she worked at Century Group.

Memories flooded back, making her smile.

Her eyes roamed the office, from the clean, spacious desk to the comfy black sofa and the floor-to-ceiling windows.

The office was filled with memories of their passionate moments, even though they happened long ago. Seeing it all brought those memories rushing back.

Regina blushed.

Douglas, noticing her blush, guessed what she was thinking.

"Mrs. Semona, wanna relive those moments?"

Regina didn't say anything.

Seeing his hand reach for the zipper on her dress, she instinctively grabbed his arm.

She wasn't ready to be that wild again.

Douglas laughed; he was just teasing.

Luckily, it was the weekend, and the office was pretty empty, so Regina felt at ease.

She noticed the ashtray on the desk with two cigarette butts in it.

She was a bit surprised.

She knew Douglas didn't smoke much, and since they started trying for a baby, he had quit entirely.

He only smoked when he was really stressed.

Regina looked at him thoughtfully.

"What's wrong? Something bothering you?"

Douglas chuckled, "It's nothing, just a lot of work piling up, so I had a smoke to de-stress."

He didn't tell her that an hour before she came in, he got a call from Jason about something related to Philip.

Regina didn't think much of it. She glanced at the stack of files on his desk and asked, "Anything I can help with?"

"Yeah."

Just as she was about to say more, he grabbed her hand and said, "First, join me for lunch."

They hit up this restaurant near the office that Regina used to love, ordered all her favorite dishes, and Douglas was super attentive. Even though he said he wanted her to join him for lunch, it was Regina who ended up feeling totally satisfied.

After lunch, Regina went back to the office with Douglas and helped him out with work.

It was a simple, happy day, but just as it was wrapping up, something unexpected happened.

When Regina got home from the office, she found a letter waiting for her.

The envelope was blank, no writing on it, no clues at all.

Regina thought it was weird.

She wondered, 'Who even writes letters these days?'

She stared at it for a while, lost in thought. Then, as if something clicked, she went to the living room, grabbed a lighter, and with a flick, set the letter on fire.

The flames danced in her eyes.

She watched it burn to ashes, took a deep breath, and closed her eyes.

Days went by steadily.

Autumn turned into winter, and time flew.

Three years later, early winter in Oriant City finally brought a long-awaited heavy snowfall.

Snowflakes twirled in the air, covering the city in a white, festive blanket.

The yard at Semona Estate was a winter wonderland.

Matt and Lily, seeing this magical snow for the first time, were as excited as little bunnies, hopping around in the snow.

The whole family came out, with Nicole and Nancy leading a snowball fight.

Douglas and Regina followed closely behind.

Matt and Lily wanted a snowman, and to make their wish come true, Regina planned to build them a huge, beautiful one.

But as soon as she bent down, before her hands could touch the cold snow, Douglas stopped her.

"It's too cold, I'll do it."

Regina, not a fan of the winter chill, didn't argue.

In the end, she just helped with the finishing touches, giving the snowman a pair of eyes with two black grapes.

"Matt, Lily!" she called to the kids who were already having a blast in the snow.

Regina squatted down, and Matt and Lily ran over, throwing themselves into her arms.

They excitedly pulled Regina to stand in front of the finished snowman and then shouted to Douglas, "Daddy, Daddy, take our picture!"

They quickly struck various poses.

Douglas, already holding his phone like a pro photographer, snapped one beautiful photo after another.

Finally, he tossed the phone to Nicole and walked over to join Regina and the kids in the snow.

Nicole immediately took a family photo of the four of them.

The heavy snow lasted a whole week, and after it melted, a sunny day came.

Regina and Douglas, along with Matt and Lily, visited Tasha's grave.

It was Matt and Lily's first time at a cemetery.

Regina cleaned up around the tombstone and placed a bouquet of flowers in front of Tasha's grave.

"Grandma, we came to see you."

The memory of Tasha, on her deathbed, tearfully clutching Douglas's hand and whispering her plea for him to take care of Regina, still weighed heavily upon him.

But in the blink of an eye, so many years had passed.

"Grandma, don't worry, I'm very happy, and we'll make a good life together."

All the regrets and missed opportunities culminated in this moment of fulfillment.

Douglas, like a traveler who had struggled through the long journey of time, had finally reached her side after so many years.

For the rest of their lives, she would be with him, making up for his journey.
