Chapter 198 She Suddenly Started Forgetting Things (2)
"The cake shop's called Frosting Fantasies. Make sure to ask for the low-fat, low-sugar version."
In the blink of an eye, while Regina was still hesitating, Douglas had already told Dorothy.
Regina, finally catching her breath, seemed to chill out a bit too.
"Yeah, it's Frosting Fantasies. Their cheesecake is the bomb," Regina echoed Douglas, like she was telling Dorothy but also reminding herself.
"Got it, I know!" Dorothy said, rushing off to grab it.
It was just Regina and Douglas in the office.
Douglas didn't waste a second. He wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her close.
Regina buried her head in his chest, listening to his strong heartbeat. She could tell how freaked out he was rushing back.
"Sorry for making you worry," Regina chuckled, thinking to herself how he was already this stressed over her normal pregnancy reaction. What would he do if something serious happened?
Douglas stayed quiet for a bit.
Regina felt his arms tighten around her. She frowned, trying to think of something comforting to say, "Babe, don't stress. I'm really okay. Not dizzy anymore, and I can eat a ton now."
Hearing her call him "babe," Douglas's tense face finally relaxed a bit.
He smirked, lifted her chin, and kissed her.
In that deep kiss, he started to feel her presence again.
He slowly calmed down.
He was getting back to normal, but Regina was left dazed from the kiss.
He kissed her so long she thought she might pass out before he finally let her go.
She stared at him, wide-eyed and confused.
Since they went public with their relationship, they'd been pretty restrained in the office. But just now, he seemed like he really wanted to go all the way right there.
"You just..."
"Just giving you a little appetizer."
Regina went quiet.
Maybe the "appetizer" was so good that when Dorothy brought back the cheesecake, Regina had a huge appetite and almost devoured the whole thing.
Feeling stuffed and happy, Regina got her energy back and dove into her work.
Another year had flown by.
After a whirlwind of busyness, Regina wrapped up her work and started her vacation.
She was super excited for Christmas and the baby's arrival.
Last night, Douglas took her back to Semona Estate. She didn't know what Leo had said to him, but when they got back, he told her, "My grandpa wants to transfer twenty percent of the Century Group's shares to you. After you give birth and recover next year, you can come back to manage the company with me. You've worked so hard, sharing so much of my load."
Every position around Douglas was occupied by high-caliber individuals. The role of executive assistant, in particular, demanded an exceptional skill set.
Everyone figured it was only natural for pregnant Regina to get some special treatment from Douglas. But truth be told, she was really stepping up as his assistant, nailing every task like a pro.
Besides the usual assistant stuff, she also had to cater to Douglas's needs for affection and, well, other things.
Regina mulled over Douglas's words.
Leo wanted her to manage the company with him?
"Manage" might be stretching it.
Regina figured Leo just wanted to give her some security under a reasonable pretext.
"You're giving too much."
Douglas had even hired a lawyer to draft a contract, listing all his assets and planning to give her ninety percent of his property if he messed up their marriage. She had turned it all down.
"Let's talk about this later. As long as we love each other, there's no need to split things so clearly," Regina said, instinctively rubbing her temples. "I'm kinda sleepy."
She seemed to be getting sleepier and sleepier, like a little animal getting ready to hibernate.
Seeing her struggle to keep her eyes open, Douglas didn't push it. He just kissed her and said, "Good night," then turned off the lamp.
That night, Regina slept fitfully.
She was exhausted but couldn't fall asleep.
Her head throbbed with a relentless ache, as if a swarm of bees was buzzing inside.
Regina had gotten used to headaches.
Because of that drowning accident, she not only had memory issues but also got headaches and tinnitus when stressed or in certain situations. Over the years, she often relied on meds to ease the pain.
But after getting pregnant, the doc had clearly said some meds were off-limits, including her headache pills. So, at first, Regina toughed it out, but lately, the headaches were getting unbearable.
Regina slowly closed her eyes. Even though her head felt like it was splitting, she didn't make a sound.
She lay quietly in Douglas's arms, feeling his breath and listening to his heartbeat.
The next morning, she opened her eyes and greeted Douglas with a sweet smile like nothing had happened.
"Morning, Douglas."
Before Douglas could react, Regina kissed him.
A lingering kiss that almost drove Douglas crazy first thing in the morning.
"Honey..." Douglas's mind was momentarily overwhelmed by a surge of heat, with impulse and reason fiercely battling. He suppressed the rising tide in his body and asked in a hoarse voice, "What's gotten into you?"
Douglas was genuinely puzzled.
Because this morning's Regina was totally different from her usual self.
Regina frowned slightly, looking a bit troubled and aggrieved.
She hadn't slept well last night because of the headache, and now her chest was hurting.
"I need you to help me with a massage again."
Douglas didn't immediately get what she meant until she reached behind her and unfastened her bra.
