Chapter 98 She Fell in Love with Douglas
Regina's body sank into the soft, dark bedding, her robe falling open to reveal her delicate skin.
Douglas loomed over her, his tall frame enveloping her completely. They were so close that their noses almost touched, their breaths mingling.
He kissed her. His kiss was gentle, cautious, deeply tender and soft, without any sense of invasion or restraint.
Yet even so, Regina felt as if she were imprisoned within an impenetrable wall.
Douglas nibbled on her flushed earlobe, his voice husky and lazy. "Don't be nervous. Okay?"
Actually, Regina knew this time was different.
At least she wouldn't find it as hard to accept Douglas as she did the last time.
However, Douglas was very patient. He didn't care about himself; he just wanted Regina to feel pleased.
It all stemmed from that night at the Seasons Hotel.
Regina cared, and Douglas cared a lot too.
He was insanely obsessed with her, and Regina was trapped in Douglas's fervor.
The warm sunlight filtered through the white sheer curtains into the room, giving the room a humid, almost tangible warmth.
Lying in bed, Regina moved weakly.
Hungover, her head throbbed painfully.
Regina frowned, slowly opened her eyes, and stared blankly out the window.
The bedroom had a large floor-to-ceiling window, and through it, Regina could vaguely recall the scenes from last night.
She had been so emotional and disheveled, while Douglas remained impeccably dressed in his suit.
Regina took a deep breath, her grip on the blanket tightening, her legs involuntarily drawing closer together.
In her daze, the door opened without her noticing.
It wasn't until Douglas walked to the bedside that she mustered the strength to lift her gaze and look at him.
She glanced at him and then looked away.
"Does your head still hurt? Would you like to eat something?" Douglas asked.
Probably aware of her shyness, Douglas didn't mention anything about what happened last night at all.
But Regina couldn't stop thinking about it.
She took a deep breath, suppressing the turmoil in her heart, and got up from the bed. "I'm a bit hungry."
"Then let's go eat something," Douglas said.
Regina nodded, and after freshening up, she went to the dining room.
The table was filled with various breakfast options for her to choose from.
Douglas poured her a glass of warm milk and handed it to her.
Regina's eyes involuntarily fell on his clean, slender, and well-defined hand.
That hand had brought her to climax last night.
"What's wrong? Don't feel like drinking?"
When Douglas spoke, Regina's gaze shifted to his attractive lips.
Regina was lost in her thoughts, unable to calm down.
Seeing her face turn redder, Douglas probably knew what she was thinking.
"I didn't want to bring up last night, but you seem to be dwelling on it." He placed the milk she hadn't taken in front of her. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to cross the line last night."
Even though they were legally married, Douglas felt that from Regina's perspective, he had crossed a line last night.
"No, you don't need to apologize," Regina said softly.
Regina had been drunk last night, but not to the point of being completely unaware of what was going on.
At least she remembered she was the one who said she wanted it first.
As Regina lowered her gaze and silently drank the milk, Douglas tentatively asked, "So, were you okay last night?"
Hearing this, Regina's breath hitched, her right hand tightly gripping the glass of milk.
Accidentally meeting his gaze, she instinctively wanted to look away, but after hesitating for a few seconds, she met his eyes.
She pressed her lips together. "I was fine."
"What does 'fine' mean?" Douglas wasn't being pushy; he just wanted a precise answer since he had asked.
In matters between a man and a woman, sometimes it took effort to find harmony.
He couldn't just enjoy himself; more importantly, he wanted her to feel pleasure.
Regina initially wanted to brush off the topic that made her blush and lose composure, but the words lingered on her lips, and she swallowed them back.
Looking directly into Douglas's eyes, Regina blurted out something that even surprised herself.
She said, "I was quite satisfied."
This time, it was Douglas's turn to be stunned for a few seconds.
The dining room fell into a silent stillness, with only the occasional clinking of cutlery.
Regina thought the matter was settled after that.
But just as she finished breakfast and was about to get up, she heard him ask, "If that's the case, can there be a next time?"
Regina's face flushed, but she still tried to appear calm. "Whether there's a next time depends on your performance."
Douglas chuckled, a genuine laugh from the heart.
The gloom that had hung over him for days finally lifted a bit.
At this point, some things didn't need to be said; they both understood.
Regina admitted that the night at the Seasons Hotel had indeed left a significant shadow.
That shadow, like a heavy cloud, had been pressing down on her.
She was anxious because she knew that sooner or later, she would face a storm.
"I had prepared for the worst regarding that night. But by God's mercy, it didn't turn out so bad, so let's put it behind us and start over," Regina said earnestly.
The words "start over" stirred a whirlwind in Douglas's heart.
He hadn't realized he had won his gamble.
That day in the office, he had mentioned his only way out of this situation.
He had also asked Regina if she had ever felt any affection for him during these days, even for a moment.
At that time, Regina was in shock, forcing herself to stay calm, saying she needed time to think about it.
These days, she had indeed been thinking about it constantly. "I always wanted to be someone who doesn't look back, because my past isn't great. The more I look back, the more it hurts."
Regina looked into Douglas's deep eyes, her heartbeat quickening. "But these days, I've been ridiculously praying in my heart, can I go back to that night? If I could, I hope I could see your face clearly, to know that the man with me that night is actually a good man who will love me and cherish me. He's not scary, not a rapist, not a demon."
But rather her salvation in a desperate situation.
Ultimately, Regina had fallen in love with Douglas.
