Chapter 69 Hope Tomorrow Will Be Too
Regina wasn't sure if there was any deeper meaning behind Douglas' question.
Even though she thought Douglas was nearly perfect, she went along with his words to comfort him.
"Nobody's perfect, you're already great," Regina said.
Douglas' grip on the steering wheel tightened a bit.
"Some people do a lot right, but one mistake can ruin everything," he said.
Regina frowned, sensing Douglas was troubled tonight.
"No mistake will make the sky fall," she said firmly.
Even if one fell into the abyss, there was still a chance to climb back up step by step.
When they got home, the housekeeper Betty Anderson had dinner ready. Regina, already a bit full from the cake, couldn't resist eating more.
After dinner, Betty brought out some hot coffee, surprising Regina.
"Mr. Semona thought you might need to keep warm tonight, so he asked me to prepare this," Betty whispered.
Regina stared at the coffee. She had got used to Douglas' thoughtful care.
After eating, Regina sat on the couch, scrolling through her phone. Douglas saw how focused she was and didn't disturb her, heading to the study instead.
After a while, Nicole sent several messages in rapid succession.
Nicole: [What's going on, Douglas? Why aren't you being proactive?]
Nicole: [Regina posted about your sweet life together, and you didn't like it first?]
Nicole: [It's been twenty minutes.]
Nicole: [Seriously, it's been twenty minutes. Why haven't you liked it yet?]
Nicole: [What are you busy with?]
Douglas exited the chat with Nicole and opened Instagram. He scrolled down and found Regina's post about their sweet life.
She had posted a photo of the cheesecake, cleverly composed to show Douglas' hand on the steering wheel in the background.
Her caption read: [Had my favorite cheesecake again, today was great, hope tomorrow is too.]
Douglas smiled and liked the post, commenting: [Every wish of Mrs. Semona will surely come true.]
In the bedroom, Regina saw Douglas' like and comment after twenty minutes and felt relieved.
Just as she was about to put down her phone and go to sleep, Miranda called urgently.
"Regina, you haven't slept yet, right? I need to ask you something!"
Regina's thoughts tightened. "No, what's up?"
"Didn't you just post something?"
Miranda rarely saw Regina post like that. But the main point was that 'S', who had been in her Instagram followers list for years, liked and commented on Regina's post. S was Douglas.
"Let's think this through," Miranda said seriously. "Remember when S posted two times in a row?"
Regina did. It was the day they brought their dog Molly home. Douglas had taken a picture of her playing with Molly and posted it, saying, [Welcome to the new family member.] Later, he posted a picture of the spaghetti she made for him.
Regina had liked his post. When Miranda saw it, she was curious because S had been on her followers list for years, but she had never chatted with him and didn't know who he was. So, she called Regina to ask.
To keep her relationship with Douglas a secret, Regina had said she didn't know S and just thought the Golden Retriever in his pictures was cute.
Now, Regina felt embarrassed. She had just posted, and S not only liked it but also commented, calling her Mrs. Semona. Miranda would know S was Douglas and that Regina had lied.
"I'm sorry, Miranda. Back then, Douglas and I had just gotten married, and our relationship wasn't stable, so I didn't tell you the truth."
"That doesn't matter now. I just want to figure out when I added Douglas' private Instagram and why, because I don't remember it."
If Douglas had personally asked Miranda about following her Instagram, she would remember it.
"Maybe because you're Nicole's classmate?"
"That doesn't make sense."
Regina suggested, "Why don't we ask Nicole?"
Miranda agreed, and they created a group chat. Miranda explained the situation to Nicole.
Nicole stared at her phone, troubled. She had given Douglas Miranda's Instagram because of Regina. She quickly thought of a way to explain.
"Remember your Dubbing Club event? Miranda gave me two tickets. Douglas was on a business trip passing through Normon City and visited me at school. I heard from Miranda that the event was fun, so I took him along."
But when they arrived, the hall was nearly empt.
The host wasn't really managing the event well, and the whole atmosphere became quite awkward at times. Nicole had confidently assured Douglas that it would be a fun event, promising he wouldn't be disappointed. But given the way things were going, she was tempted to just drag him out of there.
Douglas, however, found a quiet corner to sit. He was tired and just wanted to rest. Wearing a black jacket and mask, he sat low-key in a dimly lit corner, closed his eyes, and actually fell asleep. Later, he woke up to Regina's voice.
