Chapter 61 Sooner or Later
Wesley noticed Douglas wasn't talking but had a big grin, eyes squinting. "Mr. Semona, Grace is super sweet and caring. If you take her tonight, you won't regret it."
Douglas felt nothing. He stood there, sneering, looking at them like trash. "If you can't hear well, get a hearing aid."
Wesley looked puzzled but still explained seriously, "Mr. Semona, my hearing's fine."
Douglas shot back, "If your hearing's fine, didn't you hear me say I have a wife?"
Wesley's heart skipped a beat.
He thought to himself, 'Of course, I heard Douglas mention wife, but so what? Everyone at our dinner party has a wife. And who doesn't have a few young and beautiful women by their side?'
Wesley kept pushing. "Don't worry, Mr. Semona, I'm discreet. You can enjoy yourself without any worries."
Wesley thought he was being clever and considerate, just wanting Douglas to notice him.
After speaking, Wesley signaled Grace to move towards Douglas. But as soon as she took a step, Jason blocked her path.
Jason, tall and muscular with tattoos, made Grace step back in fear.
Douglas couldn't be bothered with them.
He snapped, "If your ears don't work, fine. But if your brain doesn't work either, you might as well screw your head off."
Wesley's eyes widened in shock.
"Since you're so keen on making me remember you, fine, I remember you now," Douglas said, his voice calm.
Only Jason understood the weight of that statement.
From now on, Wesley probably wouldn't have a place in Oriant City because he had angered Douglas.
Wesley finally realized what was happening. He wanted to say something, but Douglas had already gotten into the car without looking back.
Douglas didn't have time to waste on Wesley.
Jason drove steadily but quickly.
Douglas took out his phone. An hour ago, he had texted Regina, saying he'd come home early, but she hadn't replied.
That wasn't like her. If she had seen it, she would have responded.
He thought, 'It isn't even 8 PM yet; has she already gone to sleep?'
Douglas held his phone, seemingly playing with it, but his mind was racing.
Suddenly, he remembered something.
He opened Instagram and switched to another account.
It was an account that only followed Regina. He saw a message she had replied to an hour ago: [Looking forward to working together.]
Douglas raised an eyebrow. Regina replied to Dougal but not to him.
But that wasn't the main thing. The main thing was Regina had posted something on Instagram.
She posted: [Achieved another goal.]
It seemed like a calm statement, but when Regina typed those words, her heart was racing.
When Douglas got home, Regina had just come out of the shower.
Seeing Douglas back, Regina was visibly surprised.
"Why are you back so early?" she asked, remembering he had a social event tonight that usually lasted until late.
Douglas, loosening his tie, reminded her, "Mrs. Semona, I texted you saying I'd be back early."
"Really?" Regina quickly checked her phone and saw his message, which she had missed.
"Sorry, I was in the shower and didn't see your message," she apologized.
"No problem," Douglas replied casually.
He had a faint scent of socializing on him, and even Regina could detect a faint whiff of perfume, a subtle yet seductive fragrance.
Douglas took off his suit jacket, planning to shower. Regina quickly fetched his pajamas from the closet.
Douglas stared at her for a few seconds before taking the clothes. He noticed her effort to be considerate.
They had agreed to try making their marriage work, so she was trying to accept him, trust him, and be good to him.
He thought, 'But what if she finds out I was the one who made her uncomfortable that night?
'I can't keep this up forever. I have to come clean with Regina sooner or later.'
In the shower, Douglas let the cold water wash over him, but it couldn't wash away his troubling thoughts.
Recently, Regina hadn't been sleeping well and often had insomnia. When she woke up, she had headaches and ringing in her ears.
She got out of bed, found some pills in the drawer, and swallowed them with water.
It was Saturday, so she didn't have to go to the office. Early in the morning, Regina was chatting with Miranda on her phone.
Suddenly, she remembered something from last night and sent a voice message. "By the way, Miranda, I got an invitation from the producer of 'Post-Nuptial Passion'. They want Dougal and me to collaborate on this radio drama."
Miranda responded: "Really!?" She was overjoyed. "Congratulations! Your wish came true! Let's go out for a big meal to celebrate today!"
Regina texted back: [Sure, my treat.]
Just as she was about to say more, the doorbell rang.
Regina was puzzled. She had been living here for some time, and apart from Jason, she hadn't seen anyone else. But Jason would always notify her before coming.
She walked to the door in her slippers and looked through the indoor monitor.
What she saw left her even more surprised.
Standing at the door was a beautiful woman, tall and attractive, with delicate features that gave Regina a strange sense of familiarity.
