Chapter 70 Long Time Ago
Nicole's mind was a mess.
She wondered how she should tell them.
After all, Douglas had made it clear before: if Regina couldn't remember certain things, it was best not to let her know.
He wanted Regina to enjoy her present life, free from the disruptions of past events.
Their history wasn't filled with pleasant memories.
In the past, Regina had never loved Douglas.
So what was the point of bringing it up?
It wasn't a beautiful love story, after all.
Nicole took a deep breath and said, "Douglas fell asleep at the event. When it was ending, he heard a beautiful voice and asked me whose it was. I didn't pay much attention, so I suggested Miranda's Instagram. I told him she was my classmate from the Dubbing Club, and he could ask her if he was interested."
Miranda mumbled, "But he never talked to me or asked anything."
"Maybe it was just a passing interest, and he forgot. You know how busy he is."
Nicole's explanation made sense. Miranda finally felt relieved.
"So, Mr. Semona likes beautiful voices too? He even woke up from a nap for one!"
Nicole nodded, "Yes."
"Alright, I get it now. I can sleep well tonight. Goodnight, everyone."
Nicole thought, "Oh no. I might have trouble sleeping because I lied.' Regina also found it hard to sleep, lost in Nicole's words.
'Douglas had been to Normon University? He attended our Dubbing Club events? So, I met him before our blind date?' she thought.
Regina remembered meeting Douglas at the coffee shop. The first thing he said was, "Do you remember me?" But she had no memory of him.
She thought, 'If we've met before, why doesn't he mention it? Has he forgotten too?'
The more she thought about it, the more her head ached. Regina pressed her temples hard, trying to ease the throbbing pain while dragging herself to find some medicine. Without even taking a sip of water, she swallowed the pills dry.
Once she managed to get past that moment of discomfort, she walked out of her bedroom and made her way to Douglas' study.
The door to the study was slightly ajar. Douglas, sensing the faintest footsteps, glanced over and saw the hem of Regina's nightgown swaying at the doorway. It barely peeked out before quickly retreating again.
Ten minutes later, Regina knocked on the study door.
She bit her lip. "I have something to ask. Is now a good time?"
Douglas saw the confusion in her eyes. He stayed silent, which was unusual for him.
Finally, he said it was okay.
Regina asked, "Nicole told me you went to Normon University and watched our club's events. Why didn't you ever tell me we had met before?"
She had mentioned the Dubbing Club to him many times.
He said calmly, "I asked if you remembered me, but you didn't."
"If I didn't remember, you wouldn't say anything?"
Douglas chuckled, indifferent. "If you didn't remember, what was the point?"
His casual tone blocked Regina's thoughts.
"Well, I want to hear about it now. Can you tell me?"
Douglas' expression remained as calm as ever. "I know you've forgotten some things. They must not be important to you."
Regina thought, 'Maybe that's true. How could I forget something important?'
Douglas continued, "So, my past self was just a nobody to you, and there's no point in bringing it up?"
She thought, 'A nobody?
'Have we only crossed paths at the club's activities?
'Or was it the kind of meeting where we didn't even speak to each other, just a distant glance?'
Regina's headache was made worse by pondering deeper. She tried to calm down.
She felt a nagging sense that something about Douglas' words was off, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
Seeing Douglas wasn't keen on talking, Regina didn't push further.
After all, she disliked being forced.
Back when she was dealing with memory issues, she thought let it go if it was forgotten.
But now, she couldn't help but wonder, 'Can those memories ever be recovered?
Even if Douglas was a nobody in my past, even if we've only met at a club event.
'That alone is enough to spur my resolve to retrieve those lost memories.'
Perhaps it was curiosity getting the better of her, or maybe it was the positive direction her relationship with Douglas was taking that ignited her desire to know him better.
Douglas later found out Regina wanted to retrieve those lost memories.
Although he didn't stop her, he felt uneasy.
Regina remembered the Normon University Dubbing Club had a Twitter account, managed by club members, posting voice acting content and documenting events.
But that encounter with Douglas at the club event was seven years ago.
Regina logged into her Twitter account.
She had registered this account three years ago.
Her Twitter bio was "voice actor," with two million followers.
But Regina wasn't very active. Her account was usually dormant, except for sharing radio drama news.
She found the Twitter account of the Normon University Dubbing Club and carefully scrolled down, afraid of missing anything.
Finally, she found content from seven years ago.
As she expected, that event had been documented.
Regina looked at the slightly blurry photos from seven years ago, feeling a bit dazed.
She opened each photo one by one, enlarging them, and on the ninth photo, she found some clues!
She saw a figure sitting in a dimly lit corner of the venue. Even the blurry pixels couldn't hide his handsome demeanor. Douglas was wearing a black jacket and a black mask, his head slightly lowered, eyes closed as if he was asleep.
It matched Nicole's description perfectly.
So, he had indeed appeared in Regina's life a long time ago.
