Chapter 184 You Aren't Mad at Me Today

"Congratulations, Regina."

"Yeah, Regina, you're amazing!"

"Haha, you've been promoted to the executive assitant. Please look out for us in the future."

After realizing what had happened, colleagues gradually came over to congratulate Regina. Even Janet couldn't help but say, "I've always known you had this capability. We unanimously thought highly of you."

Janet's gaze slowly fell on Regina's belly.

Indeed, the interviewers had considered her pregnancy as a factor for a long time. But in this assessment, she ranked first in the written test, and during the interview, even when facing Douglas' difficult questions, she was impeccable, which alleviated many of their concerns.

So, they all approved the decision.

"Thank you, Ms. Liam. I will work hard."

Everyone was chatting and laughing, except for Lucia, who stood aside with a sullen face, her meticulously applied makeup unable to cover her embarrassed look.

After passing the assessment, Regina's appointment notice came down quickly.

Her office was moved from the Translation Department to the one opposite the Executive Office.

While she was packing her things, a group of colleagues gathered around.

"Oh, Regina, we'll miss you. The company is so big, and it might be hard to run into each other now that we're not in the same office," Sue sighed.

She had joined the company a bit later than Regina, and during these days, Regina, as a senior, had patiently guided her a lot, for which she was quite grateful.

Sue looked at Regina with admirationand asked expectantly, "If I want to see you in the future, can I ask you out after work?"

"Sure."

"That's great!"

After spending a lot of time with Regina, everyone gradually became attracted to her work attitude and her calm and serious demeanor. Even a few colleagues who used to gossip about Regina with Lucia now felt a bit reluctant to say goodbye.

Lucia watched all this, gritting her teeth in anger.

She still couldn't understand what she had lost to Regina.

Dorothy took Regina to her new office.

It was a private office, with a grand and bright black-and-white design, right opposite the Executive Office.

She sat down at her desk, methodically organizing her things, when she suddenly heard a steady and powerful set of footsteps.

She looked up to see a group of people in suits walking by, talking. Among them, she saw Douglas.

Even in a crowded group, Douglas was still the one who stood out.

Coincidentally, his gaze also fell on her.

The moment their eyes met, the air seemed to freeze.

He gave her a slight smile and, surrounded by the group, walked into the Executive Office.

Regina stared at the office door for a few seconds, slowly smiling.

She quickly adapted to life in her new office.

Given it was her first day, there were no special tasks assigned to her, making her at leisure.

At six in the evening, it was time to get off work, but Douglas didn't come out from the Executive Office.

Regina knew that Douglas might still have unfinished business, so she wasn't in a hurry and quietly waited in her office.

After about twenty minutes, he called, "Regina, come to my office."

Regina hung up the phone and walked into his office.

Almost the moment she entered, he closed his laptop, then walked to the reception area and brewed a pot of coffee.

"Mr. Semona, are you off work?" Regina thought he called her into the office for work.

"The work is done. I just wanted to invite you to sit and chat."

His tone sounded serious, so Regina didn't say much and sat down with him on the sofa.

He had selected a tea suitable for pregnant women, brewed a small cup, and placed it in front of her. "Try it?"

Regina took it and sipped slowly.

"Mrs. Semona, you're not mad at me today, are you?"

The moment Regina put down the cup, she suddenly heard him ask this and was taken aback. "What?"

"I mean, about the interview."

Regina fell silent.

Douglas did seem to "make things difficult" for her during the interview this morning. If she had failed to answer any question well, she would have been passed over.

Thinking of this, Regina chuckled and joked with him, "I am mad. I almost missed a perfect opportunity for promotion.

"Then let me make it up to you?"

Regina didn't expect him to take her joke seriously and follow through.

No one knew better than her that his "difficult" questions during the interview were actually a sign of his trust and goodwill.

"No need for compensation," Regina said.

She knew he always wanted to give her the best of everything.

She had already received so much from him.

Speaking of compensation, it should be her making it up to him for the rest of her life.

Regina quickly adapted to her new job.

On her second day on the job, Regina was suddenly tasked with leading an international video conference and then flew abroad with Douglas for a business trip.

Douglas, ever the attentive husband, was careful to ensure she wasn't overworking herself or feeling unwell. But Regina seemed to thrive under the pressure, showing remarkable energy and dedication.

Her newfound drive earned her high praise within the company.

Lucia, on the other hand, was seething with jealousy as she listened to the glowing reviews of Regina. She tried every trick in the book to find a flaw in Regina, but she couldn't catch a break. Despite her frustration, Lucia remained stubbornly fixated on finding something to criticize.

Her opportunity finally came on the day after Douglas returned from his trip.

Douglas had a social engagement with a visiting team from Kensington, and he brought Regina along. Since the Kensington team was quite large, Lucia and several colleagues from the translation department were also assigned to provide translation services.

As often happened in these types of social events, Douglas had a few drinks. Later on, perhaps due to the effects of the alcohol, he began to feel uneasy and decided to step outside for some fresh air.

Noticing that Douglas didn't look well, Regina immediately followed him out without giving it much thought.

Lucia, who had been keeping a close eye on Regina, was quick to follow suit. The long corridor of the club, lined with famous paintings, seemed endless.

The dim lighting above cast a somber atmosphere, enhancing the silence of the corridor.

Lucia trailed behind discreetly, and finally, around a corner, she saw something that made her eyes widen in disbelief.

She gasped, covering her mouth in shock as she stared at the scene unfolding before her.
