Chapter 51 Don't Worry
His teasing only made Regina more nervous, her eyelashes trembling hard. She pleaded in a voice that seemed to beg for mercy, "Can you be gentler?"
That night, the fear of the pain that felt like it would tear her apart was still vivid in her mind.
Douglas blamed himself. He hadn't gauged the situation perfectly from the start. She didn't say stop, but it was clear she wanted him to. He calmed down, his hands supporting him above her, feeling her rapid breaths. This attempt had probably failed.
Douglas reached out, his warm fingers caressing her delicate face, and he whispered, "Don't worry, we can try again next time."
Regina found it hard to believe. Her tense heart suddenly relaxed. She didn't know why, but desire surged within her. Her body responded, but there was a mental barrier she couldn't overcome.
She felt like a broken machine. With a faint click, the light came on, instantly brightening the room. Regina's dazed eyes looked at the person so close to her, and she averted her gaze, feeling a bit uneasy. Douglas pulled a thin sheet to cover her exposed skin, trying to make her more comfortable.
"Take a break, and then you can take a shower." His actions were gentle, and his lowered voice sounded indulgent.
Regina suddenly felt guilty for her retreat in the middle of their intimacy. She whispered, "I'm sorry."
Douglas smiled helplessly, reassuring her, "It's okay," then he got up and left for the balcony, lighting a cigarette. He was aroused and in pain. After smoking two cigarettes, he didn't return to the room.
Regina lay on the bed, barely able to sleep until dawn. She slept until she woke up naturally!
When Regina opened her eyes and felt the phone on the bedside table, she saw the time displayed on it. In that instant, her body reacted like a spring, and she sat up in bed. He had promised to wake her up early today! She had believed him.
But what happened?
He let her sleep in his office until almost noon! More importantly, she forgot to set the alarm last night, or she would never have slept until this time. In a hurry, Regina looked down at herself.
Last night, she must have tossed and turned in her sleep, as a few buttons on her nightgown were undone, revealing a hint of ambiguity on her fair neck and chest. She remembered the feeling of him holding her soft chest last night, and her body instantly felt a wave of numbness, her face burning. She quickly got out of bed to change.
But she had to pass by his office to leave. Regina cautiously walked towards his office. Before she reached the door, she heard voices. She listened carefully and realized that there were more than two or three people outside—probably a group!
Regina hid behind the door, hesitating whether she should go out now. Douglas was in a meeting with higher-ups, and she didn't know how long the meeting would last.
From their conversation, it seemed that a certain project was not progressing smoothly. The Century Group has a global presence and operates in a wide range of businesses, including the automotive industry, aerospace, new energy, transportation, the internet, biomedicine, and artificial intelligence.
A year ago, the Century Group spent $1.2 billion preparing to build a mega factory in Tailando. The original plan was to start production ten months later, but now it's been two months past the deadline, and there were problems in the final inspection phase.
The project manager was worried about being blamed by Douglas, and when reporting, his eyes kept looking at Douglas. He thought that Douglas would be in a bad mood and it would be normal for him to get angry. Who knew that Douglas seemed calm and didn't seem to have any intention of criticizing or holding him accountable.
For Douglas, although they didn't go all the way last night, her willingness to try made him feel good. He was in a good mood, and his patience improved.
Douglas closed the file in his hand and said, "Alright, it's almost noon. You guys go have lunch first, and we'll continue the meeting at 1:30 in the afternoon."
This was not like Douglas's style. So much so that everyone stood there in a daze, not knowing whether to go or not. Douglas glanced at the door of the lounge, then raised his hand and looked at the time on his watch. He thought he didn't really do anything to her last night, why was she still sleeping so long and not getting up?
"What are you all still doing here? Get out." His cold voice finally brought everyone back to their senses, and they quickly packed up and left the office. Seeing the office door close, Douglas was about to get up when he heard the door of the lounge being gently twisted. He looked over and saw the door open a crack, and after a few seconds, he saw Regina cautiously peeking her head out.
Douglas found it funny to see her like that. They were clearly a legal couple, but now they looked like they were having an affair.
Regina made sure everyone was gone before coming out. She stood in front of him and asked, somewhat upset, "Why didn't you wake me up this morning?"
"I saw you sleeping quite soundly. I couldn't bear to wake you up."
"But I have to go to work."
"Is work important to you?"
When the boss asked, Regina replied solemnly, "Of course."
Douglas looked at her and smiled. "Work is not as important as your sleep." His voice was clean and pleasant as if still carrying the lingering warmth of last night, which made Regina feel warm inside.
Douglas continued, "It's already noon. Have lunch before you leave." The secretary quickly brought lunch. Regina didn't refuse. She silently found a place to finish her meal and then tried to look calm and left his office.
Janet didn't ask her why she didn't come to work in the morning. She was just curious why Regina had taken a half-day off, and the president's assistant had called her personally. Did Regina go to accompany the president for something important?
