Chapter 214 Accompanying Her Every Step of the Way Without Reservation

Douglas's mind was buzzing with a million thoughts, but his face stayed as calm as a still pond.

He slowly pulled back the hand he was about to touch her with and said, "Alright, I'll listen to you."

He knew better than to keep talking, hoping to jog her memory. Her mind couldn't handle that right now.

Whatever role she needed him to play, he was all in.

The room was silent for a long time.

Douglas wasn't in a rush; he just waited quietly for her to process everything.

About half an hour later, Regina finally snapped out of it.

Douglas then said, "Breakfast is ready. Want me to bring it over?"

Seeing his careful attention, Regina's eyes softened a bit. She hesitated, then nodded.

There were still two weeks until Regina's surgery.

But right now, her condition was getting worse.

After thinking it over, Douglas handed the kids over to the Semona family and took Regina back to their apartment.

He figured she needed a quieter place.

"So, are we going to live together?" Regina asked, standing in the big, empty living room, looking a bit lost.

"Yeah," Douglas said with a small smile. "Mrs. Semona, you're my wife, meant to be together for life. So, I'll give you time, and we'll get used to it slowly."

With that, he saw Regina lower her eyes, looking serious and deep in thought.

He wondered if she was thinking the same things she did when they first moved in together.

Regina had lived here for a long time, but now, walking through it, everything felt strange.

It wasn't until she saw the red hairband on the sofa that a wave of familiarity hit her, but it was quickly followed by the painful memories of that night at the Seasons Hotel.

Douglas watched her eyes change a dozen times in just a minute or two and knew what she was thinking.

Retracing their steps wouldn't be easy for either of them.

But he was always patient, never getting tired of anything.

He thought, if they had to walk that path again, so be it, as long as he could stay by her side.

Regina suddenly felt down. She lowered her head, brushed past him without a word, and locked herself in the room to take a nap.

Douglas sat quietly on the living room sofa, scrolling through his phone.

Since being with Regina, he had developed a habit of taking photos, always capturing moments with her.

After looking through the photos, he opened the post.

Yesterday, after the kids' celebration party, the Semona family's friends and relatives had all posted, making it very lively.

Douglas scrolled through them one by one.

All the photos everyone posted were, without exception, family photos of the four of them and some carefully arranged scenes from the party.

When Regina woke up, it was already evening.

Seeing the dim sky outside, she felt a bit annoyed and slipped on a pair of soft slippers, getting out of bed.

She walked out of the room, through the spacious hallway, and into the living room.

Douglas heard the noise, put away his phone, and stood up, walking over to her.

Since Regina's current memory was stuck just after their wedding, he had to hold back.

No kissing, no hugging, no sharing a bed—anything more would make her uncomfortable.

Regina said, "I slept too long and forgot I still have work to finish."

Douglas stayed quiet.

She had always been super dedicated to her work.

With a helpless smile, Douglas said, "It's okay. There's no rush today. You can do it tomorrow."

"But if I don't finish the task..."

Douglas interrupted, "I'm your boss. Doesn't my word count?"

"Boss?"

"Yeah."

Douglas didn't have much time to play this role with her.

He calmly and logically told Regina the fact that he was her boss.

Regina stared at him, not quite believing it.

It wasn't until the next day that Douglas took her to the company and she saw everyone's attitude towards Douglas, that she accepted it.

The people at the company also knew about Regina's illness.

They were shocked, but they didn't have time to dwell on it and immediately pulled themselves together to cooperate with Regina.

So, Regina returned to the translation department.

Janet walked to her workstation in high heels and handed her a document. "Regina, I'll leave the translation of this project contract to you. Please give it to me by the morning."

"Okay." Regina took the document from Janet and then got busy in an orderly manner.

Janet watched the scene in front of her, feeling inexplicably sour and bitter.

At noon, Regina was called to Douglas's office.

He had prepared her favorite cheesecake.

Douglas was really going all out to walk her through every step again, trying to help her move her memory forward instead of backward.

After all, at this critical moment, if her memory regressed any further, she would completely forget him.

Regina stared at the cake for a long time, looking a bit at a loss.

Suddenly, her mind was flooded with many images.

Regina raised her hand heavily, pressing her temples. Her ears buzzed, and she felt dizzy for a moment. Her body swayed, and she instinctively supported herself on Douglas's desk with both hands.

Every time Douglas saw her in pain, his heart ached as if it were bleeding.

He hurriedly opened a drawer, took out two bottles of medicine, poured one pill from one bottle and three from the other, and handed them to Regina. "You have a headache problem. Take the medicine first."

Regina trembled as she reached out, took the pills from his hand, put them in her mouth, and then took the water from his hand, swallowing with difficulty.

She closed her eyes and rested for a while.

When she opened her eyes again and saw his handsome face up close, there was a light in her once dull eyes.

It seemed she remembered something again.
