Chapter 167 A Truth from Three Years Ago
Douglas remained relatively calm, but he asked repeatedly, "Are you sure?"
The doctor smiled and replied, "Yes, Mr. Semona."
Regina held the examination report, still a bit dazed.
Suddenly, Douglas pulled her into a tight embrace. Despite his efforts to be gentle, his arms squeezed her with undeniable intensity.
"Thank you, Mrs. Semona," he murmured, a phrase he'd said countless times before.
Regina's eyes filled with tears, dampening the front of his white shirt.
She said nothing, only shook her head slowly, overwhelmed by emotion.
On the drive home from the hospital, both of them felt a heavy weight in their hearts. After all, two new lives were about to join their world—how could they not feel the gravity of it all?
Back at the house, Douglas finally shared the news of the twins with Leo, Herman, and Elizabeth.
Leo was overjoyed and immediately called Douglas, saying, "Douglas! Listen, you'd better take great care of Regina! Got it? Or when you come back, I'm going to knock some sense into you."
Douglas, hearing Leo's concern, sighed and rubbed his forehead. "Don't worry, I'll take good care of Regina."
Meanwhile, Elizabeth called Regina. Her tone was not as exuberant as Leo's; instead, she sounded genuinely concerned. "Carrying one baby is tough enough. Carrying twins is even harder. Regina, you're really going through a lot. How will you manage as your belly keeps growing?"
Elizabeth had a remarkable ability to empathize, and imagining Regina's situation, it was as if she were feeling the struggle herself.
Though everyone in the Semona family worried about Regina's well-being, Regina felt a deep sense of satisfaction despite the challenges.
She reassured Elizabeth, "It's okay. Don't worry too much. Just take it one day at a time, and everything will turn out fine."
"Regina, having you is truly a blessing for the Semona family," Elizabeth said warmly.
In the Semona family, Regina seemed to always be the one cherished and adored.
Elizabeth spoke at length, and just hearing her voice made Regina feel enveloped in warmth, as if a gentle spring breeze surrounded her.
The Semona family knew about her challenging past, but rather than diminishing their respect for her, it only deepened their compassion and affection.
After ending the call, Regina sat on the sofa, immersed in the joyful atmosphere, momentarily lost in thought.
Douglas quietly approached and wrapped his arms around her waist. At that moment, without needing grand speeches, just holding her and looking at her provided Regina with a profound sense of security.
Friday was Charles' birthday.
He had managed to persuade Douglas to attend his birthday party—a rare occurrence since Douglas had married. Since then, Douglas had seldom joined such gatherings.
Whenever they invited him out, his usual excuse was a breezy, "I've got to be with my wife," sending them on their way.
With the news of his wife expecting twins, getting him out for social events was likely to be as difficult as reaching the moon.
Charles couldn't help but feel envious when he thought about Douglas and the twins. It was clear that someone with his talents excelled in every aspect of life—even when it came to having children.
In the private room, many guests had already gathered. The only person missing was Douglas, who was still parking his car.
Charles was calling for Michael to sing a song to kick things off.
Just three days ago, Michael had won the "Album of the Year" award.
Sitting in a corner, wearing a baseball cap and a loose black T-shirt, Michael lifted his head lazily when Charles called out to him, revealing his finely chiseled features.
Michael seemed less than thrilled. He pondered, 'It's hard to believe that just eight months ago, Douglas and I were caught up in some rumors. And now, in such a short time, he's not only married but also expecting twins?'
As expected, the twins were the hot topic of the evening. Everyone was both envious and a bit green with jealousy.
Even Charles, who was known for his playboy ways, seemed somewhat shaken by the news.
Josh, however, remained unfazed.
He took a slow drag of his cigarette and exhaled a plume of smoke. "Well, the mystery's finally solved. He's been holding a candle for Regina all these years, hasn't he?"
The group had long known about Douglas' unspoken affection for someone.
For her sake, he'd turned down numerous blind dates and rebuffed every woman who tried to get close.
He'd spent a significant amount of time shuttling between Oriant City and Normon City for reasons unknown.
And three years ago, he'd even taken a knife wound for her.
It was during a violent incident in Oriant City around Christmas Eve. The upscale shopping mall was bustling with holiday shoppers, alive with the season's cheer.
A deranged criminal had targeted a woman emerging from a high-end watch store, following her closely until he eventually kidnapped her.
Douglas was the one who rescued her from the clutches of the maniac. However, during the close-quarters struggle with the attacker, Douglas sustained a knife wound.
At the time, the three of them found the situation odd. Douglas was known to spend all his free time either working or training at the gym and boxing ring. Given his skill, they all knew he could handle a single thug without breaking a sweat. So, how did he end up with such a severe injury?
Moreover, the kidnapped girl had vanished without a trace after the incident.
When they visited Douglas in the hospital, they couldn't hide their disdain. They asked him how he ended up in such a mess and were relentless in their questioning about the identity of the woman he saved.
They couldn't believe that the woman, for whom Douglas had taken such a risk and endured serious injuries, never even came to see him.
Douglas, lying in his hospital bed, barely lifted his eyelids and simply said, "It's fine. I'm happy to do it."
It wasn't until much later that they learned the woman Douglas had willingly taken a knife for was the one he had been pining for all these years.
But who she was and what she looked like, they had no clue.
Charles clicked his tongue in admiration and said, "You're way behind the curve. I knew about this ages ago."
It was no surprise that Josh, who had been busy expanding into international markets over the past year, was a bit out of the loop regarding local gossip.
Josh squinted slightly, as if deep in thought. "I think I remember something about Regina. Wasn't she the woman who was in a six-year relationship with Philip?"
Charles immediately made a shushing gesture towards him. "Better watch it. Don't bring up Philip in front of Douglas."
Josh wasn't trying to stir the pot, but the fact remained. "I actually saw Philip tonight."
"What?"
