Chapter 188 Don't Feel Sorry for Me
Regina looked up in disbelief, and the moment their eyes met, it was as if an earthquake shook within her gaze.
But he looked at her calmly and naturally, and that simple look gave her an immense sense of stability and strength.
Soon, Regina clearly understood what had happened.
After a moment of silence, her tense nerves gradually relaxed.
She gave him a slight smile, but her eyes inexplicably welled up with tears.
Her red lips moved, as if she wanted to say something, but no one heard her voice. Only Douglas could read her lips and knew she was saying, "Thank you."
"Alright, today's meeting officially begins." Douglas finally let go of her. That brief moment of tenderness was his reward to himself.
He had long anticipated the day he could publicly claim to be Regina's husband.
The reason he delayed Regina's entrance into the meeting room was to prevent her from seeing those unpleasant looks and hearing those harsh words. He only wanted her to enjoy this relatively happy moment peacefully after he had handled everything.
Meanwhile, the Translation Department started discussing again.
Someone joked, "How bittersweet, we've been kept in the dark by Mr. Semona and Mrs. Semona all along."
"But speaking of which, did anyone question the assessment before? Does Mrs. Semona need to play such little tricks with you?"
Soon a colleague who had interviewed with Regina chimed in, "Haha, that's right. It's an honor for us to even compete alongside Mrs. Semona.!"
Just as everyone was getting excited, they heard the sound of a glass falling to the ground.
Everyone looked towards the source of the sound and saw Lucia's face as pale as a sheet, her hands trembling.
At that moment, Lucia felt a pain as if she had been shot.
She thought, 'Regina is Mrs. Semona.
'Regina is actually Mrs. Semona!'
This fact was probably more unbearable for Lucia than being killed!
During the time she had been at odds with Regina, Lucia had always looked down on her with a ridiculous sense of superiority. She despised Regina, said many harsh words, and did many shameful things.
Now she was extremely embarrassed.
Lucia's mind was buzzing, and she didn't hear a word of what the people around her were saying.
Because of the "interlude" at today's regular meeting, it ended at six in the evening.
After the meeting, everyone gradually left the conference room.
Douglas remained seated at the head of the table.
Regina was already used to freely switching between her two identities in front of him. At this moment, she remembered her duties as his executive assistant. Seeing that he had no intention of leaving, she quietly sat beside him, waiting.
Once everyone had left, Jason came over to close the conference room door for them. Immediately after, Regina saw Douglas walking towards her.
He raised his hand to touch her head, saying in a pampering tone, "It's okay now."
At his words, the anxiety that had troubled Regina for so long vanished in an instant.
But thinking about how he faced all the controversy alone, she still felt a pang of heartache.
She thought, 'I've delayed my entrance into the conference room by an hour. During that hour, has Douglas faced all kinds of harsh words and unpleasant looks?'
Douglas couldn't stand seeing any hint of sadness on her face.
"Don't feel sorry for me."
Who could do anything to him anyway?
Moreover, he had been in a good mood throughout the entire process.
Because he knew what he was facing and what he would gain.
"Alright, it's time to go home, Mrs. Semona." He said with a smile, "I can openly call you Mrs. Semona now."
Regina rose to her feet beside Douglas, a stark contrast to how things used to feel. Standing next to him now felt entirely different.
As they prepared to leave the conference room, the would-be eavesdroppers outside scurried away in a frantic rush.
Young men and women, typically the epitome of professional poise, now scattered like startled pigeons.
Dorothy, peeking at the scene from a distance, couldn't resist asking Jason, "Mr. Green, you've been with Mr. Semona the longest. Do you have any idea what went down in there? Were they… kissing or something?"
Jason ignored the gossip and walked over to Douglas with his usual composure.
"Mr. Semona, about tonight…"
"Forget about tonight. You can head home and enjoy your weekend," Douglas said.
Jason hesitated, unaccustomed to being told to rest. He handed over his car keys to Douglas with a slight pause.
Douglas took Regina home, but this time they headed to the flat they hadn't visited in a while.
"Why the sudden trip to the old place?" Regina asked, puzzled.
Lately, they had been staying in their villa on Springfield Road. With Regina pregnant, the house was bustling with staff—caretakers, dietitians, cleaners, and so on. The place was so lively that Regina often found herself surrounded by people wherever she went.
"So we can have some time alone," Douglas replied.
'Time alone?' Regina pondered the phrase, then glanced down at her growing belly. "I don't think 'alone time' is really what we can do right now."
By the time they arrived home, it was getting late. Fortunately, Douglas had arranged for dinner to be prepared in advance.
Regina, feeling famished, washed up and settled into the dining room to enjoy her meal. After dinner, she relaxed for a while before taking a shower.
When she emerged from the bathroom, it was nearly ten o'clock. Normally, she'd be getting ready for bed, but tonight she felt wide awake.
Douglas' earlier declaration in front of everyone—"This is my wife, Regina"—kept echoing in her mind, thrilling her with a sense of exhilaration that had yet to fade.
Regina walked slowly towards Douglas, who was still on the phone. His gaze snapped to her as he heard her approach.
When Douglas saw her, his throat involuntarily tightened. Regina stood there in a cream-colored slip that clung to her curves, accentuating her shapely form.
She wasn't wearing a bra.
Her fuller, more pronounced breasts, a result of her pregnancy, swayed subtly with each step she took toward him, capturing his undivided attention.
