Chapter 79 Last Night I Went Too Far

Charles knew exactly what Douglas meant by "What about Philip."

A while back, Charles had approached Douglas about the bid for the Azure Gateway Bridge project. Philip had been determined to win that project, but Charles had swooped in and taken it.

Charles often seemed like he was slacking off, but in reality, he had a keen eye for things. That day, he knew exactly why he was able to enlist Douglas' help so easily.

"What else could it be?" Charles grinned when Douglas asked. "Douglas, you knew the consequences before you did this, right?"

Douglas must have known what this would do to Philip, which is why he went along with it.

"Philip was already not valued at home, and now he's lost a crucial project for the Heyday Group. He's in a tough spot," Charles said. "Douglas, do you have a grudge against Philip?"

Douglas was silent for a moment, and Charles ran through all the possible reasons for a grudge.

"I thought you two didn't have any business dealings before.

"You shouldn't have any other reasons to hate him, right?"

Douglas's face darkened, and he let out a cold laugh. "How could there be none?"

Charles seemed to catch on. "Really?"

Before Charles could react, Douglas hung up the phone. He had heard a suppressed cough behind him.

Regina was trying to fake sleep, but her sore throat made her cough. Despite her efforts, Douglas heard it.

Douglas calmly put his phone away, poured a glass of water, and handed it to her.

"When did you wake up?"

"Just now."

Regina sat up, leaning against the bed. Her voice was hoarse. After a sip of water, she set the cup aside.

She had heard Douglas mention Philip and knew the call was about him.

She didn't play dumb and asked, "I heard you mention Philip. What's going on with him now?"

"Do you care about what happens to him?"

"Not really," Regina paused, then added, "but not completely indifferent."

Seeing Douglas' face darken, Regina quickly explained, "I mean, if his issues involve me, of course, I care. I'm not concerned about him; I'm concerned about myself."

Her seemingly selfish words actually improved Douglas' mood.

He touched her face and found she still had a fever.

"Sorry, I was too much last night."

Regina had been trying to forget those embarrassing moments, but Douglas' comment brought them back.

Actually, she had been quite inexperienced last night. Douglas had been tortured by her clumsiness, unable to find relief until he heard Regina cough in the bathtub. Only then did he grasp her aching hand and hastily bring things to an end.

So Regina had always doubted his comment last night that "you have a natural talent for this."
