Chapter 12 Completely Forgotten Him
Douglas's close friends knew he had once loved a woman who didn't like him, and he had spent years trying to win her over.
Seeing Douglas fall silent, Regina couldn't help but glance at him. His tone had shifted since he answered the call, a sign that something was amiss.
As Regina pondered his emotions, she heard Douglas say, "I'm married, and I love her very much."
Regina was shocked. She wondered, 'Why is he suddenly bringing up marriage?'
She knew Douglas was lying. It was just unsettling for Regina to hear him profess his love so abruptly.
Michael, disgruntled, interjected, "I know you're being evasive and pretending to be clueless."
"Alright, I got it. Thank you for your blessings. We'll be happy," Douglas replied.
He thought, 'Why did he suddenly say things I don't understand?' Michael sighed in resignation, "Douglas, I can't go ahead to talk with you."
Douglas remained expressionless, but his next words left Michael stunned. "Since we're having such a great chat, remember to get me a nice gift for my wedding."
Michael was speechless. Douglas didn't even wait for Michael's response before ending the call. Looking at Douglas, who had removed his Bluetooth, Regina hesitated for a moment before cautiously asking, "Who was that on the phone?"
"Just a good friend," Douglas replied.
"I see."
"He also knows about my upcoming wedding."
Regina pursed her lips in resignation. Although they had agreed not to announce their marriage publicly, Century Group had exposed their marriage license for PR, making Douglas's wedding widely known. 'At least no one knows he's going to marry me.' With that, Regina couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.
An hour later, they finally arrived at the hospital. Before getting out of the car, Regina seemed to remember something. She took out a red hairband from her bag and skillfully tied her curly hair into a bow. Then she carefully checked herself in the car's mirror.
"Let's go," Regina said. She noticed that Douglas had been staring at the hairband on her head.
"Is this hairband too tacky?"
Douglas was about to say, but Regina explained awkwardly, "When I was a child, I couldn't tie my hair well. Before the sixth grade, Tasha used to braid my hair every day. She could create many beautiful hairstyles with this hairband. The last time I visited her in the hospital, she suddenly asked me why I wasn't wearing this red hairband."
Regina's tone softened as she continued, "Perhaps she also misses the days when she used to braid my hair, and I think the red hairband looks pretty."
"You look great."
Regina was in a spin, then said, "Thank you," and quickly got out of the car without overthinking. They headed to the in-patient department.
Douglas walked beside her, watching the red hairband flutter in the wind. His eyes squinted slightly as if he were seriously contemplating something. He thought, 'Has she completely forgotten about me?'
