Chapter 209 I Believe in You, You Won't Let Me Lose
March was when Regina was due.
Douglas was there for her every single moment. Even though he was clearly stressed, Regina never saw him sweat. He always put on a brave face for her.
Because of that, Regina felt calm whenever she looked at him. But late at night, when she wasn't around, he'd sneak out for a smoke.
Sometimes, while smoking, his eyes would well up. When he couldn't keep it together, even his hands would shake.
In the dead of night, he'd spend hours lost in his thoughts before snapping out of it.
In the morning, when Regina woke up, Douglas would be right there, opening his eyes soon after.
She'd cuddle up to him, her lips brushing against his neck. Her voice, soft and sleepy, would call out, "Douglas."
Douglas felt a bit of relief. She was in good spirits this morning; at least she remembered him. For him, that was enough.
Even though Regina still forgot things sometimes, it seemed like she was really trying to remember him this time.
Regina lay in bed, leaning into his arms. She grabbed her phone, opened the photo album, and started scrolling through it.
Every day, she'd look at some photos and read through their chat history. It had become a routine to help her remember.
As she flipped through the photos, she saw one of them in front of a cathedral in Germeny and another from their trip to see the aurora in Icy Island.
Regina asked, "Do you remember I once said that no matter how busy we get, we should take time to travel once a year?"
Douglas was pleasantly surprised she remembered. He kissed her forehead and said, "Of course, I remember."
Regina let out a long breath. "That's good."
She kept scrolling through her phone and accidentally opened a video.
It was the one he had taken last time to help her relieve her desires, a video she had whimsically asked him to record.
Regina blushed. In the video, her altered moans made the air feel warmer this early in the morning.
She instinctively wanted to turn off the phone, but Douglas held her hand down.
He smiled, a smile that could captivate anyone. "Take a good look."
She asked, "Look at what?"
"Look at how I cherish you."
Regina's heart raced.
Douglas made her watch the entire process. She saw how he pleased her. Lust and love were always closely intertwined.
"Regina, I love you." His voice echoed in her ear.
Regina wanted to respond with a smile, but her eyes involuntarily welled up.
"I love you too," she said seriously, "I want to love you forever and ever."
Regina's plans for the next three months were already set.
She thought, 'March, have the baby. April, rest and recover. May, have surgery. And what about June and July? There are still so many long days ahead. By then, I will have a healthy body, a sound memory, and I will spend my life with Douglas.'
Douglas said, "It's time to head to the hospital."
Lately, Regina had been hearing this phrase a lot. She was constantly going for prenatal checkups and seeing the neurosurgeon.
The whole process was complicated, long, and sometimes pretty uncomfortable. But Regina didn't put up a fight; she was super cooperative.
Her attitude made Douglas's heart ache even more.
At the hospital, after the prenatal checkup, the results came back normal. Thanks to Regina's good health and careful attention during the pregnancy, she was doing great. She hadn't gained much weight; the extra pounds were all baby.
The doctor said, "For twins, full-term delivery increases the difficulty and risk. Based on today's assessment, we recommend an early C-section."
Regina felt a bit lost, her hand instinctively rubbing her swollen belly. She and her babies were about to meet. After all this waiting and prepping, she suddenly felt a bit nervous.
Douglas was actually more nervous than she was, but he didn't show it. He calmly asked the doctor, "When exactly?"
"Tomorrow."
Douglas was silent for a couple of seconds and then said, "Okay."
"Tomorrow" sounded super rushed, but everything was moving along smoothly.
Not just Douglas, but everyone in the Semona family was ready to welcome these two little lives, making sure everything was perfect.
Douglas noticed that after Regina found out about the C-section scheduled for tomorrow, her beautiful brows hadn't relaxed much. She walked out of the hospital with a heavy heart.
Douglas asked if she was scared. Regina shook her head.
"Then what's wrong?" He raised his hand and gently pinched her delicate face. "You look like you're about to cry."
Regina looked into his eyes, her lips parted as if she wanted to say something but hesitated.
Douglas asked again, "Regina, tell me, what's wrong?"
"I think I just saw someone." With people coming and going in the hospital, her words seemed a bit out of place.
Douglas stayed patient and asked, "Who did you see?"
Regina hesitated for a long time before saying the name, "Philip."
A fleeting glance in the crowd, and she was sure it was him. Philip had seen her too. Even after her figure had disappeared from his sight for a long time, he still stood there, staring.
Douglas admitted he was a bit unhappy. He didn't hide it and said openly, "It seems your memory is quite good."
Regina hurriedly apologized and calmly explained, "I do remember him, but I also remember that I don't love him anymore. Please don't be mad, okay?"
Douglas didn't say anything. He was someone who rarely got angry with Regina, not just for a year, but for a lifetime.
This time, he wasn't really angry. "I just had a fleeting thought in my mind. I was afraid I would lose to him again."
Regina opened her mouth, eager to speak, but Douglas's voice came first. "But then I think I'm worrying for nothing. Even if I don't believe in myself, I should believe in you. I trust you won't let me lose to him."
