Chapter 25 Small Happiness
Regina immediately got busy when she brought Molly home.
She arranged a cozy spot for Molly and fed her. It seemed as though she had been Molly's owner for a long time. Molly enjoyed being around her, constantly following her around.
Regina playfully teased Molly with a ball of yarn, and Douglas watched from a distance, capturing the moment with his phone.
In the photo, Regina, dressed in white, sat on the carpet playing with Molly. Douglas scrolled through his gallery and realized he had taken many photos of Regina in a short time. However, all these photos were taken without her knowledge. There were pictures of her on the balcony, in the kitchen, and even one from a company meeting. Douglas had discreetly captured her presence in a room full of people.
He posted the photo of Regina playing with Molly on Instagram.
[Welcome our newest family member.]
Then he put his phone down and walked over to Regina, who was sitting on the carpet in the living room. "Are you happy?" he asked.
Regina nodded, responding sincerely, "For sure."
"Let's go to Icyisland next February."
Regina was puzzled. "Why Icyisland?"
"For our honeymoon," Douglas replied.
Regina fell silent. She checked the calendar and realized that February was a company holiday, so she would have time. However, the idea of a honeymoon made her feel uneasy. "Do we have to go?" she asked cautiously.
"Don't you want to go?"
Regina thought for a moment. Icyisland was known for its breathtaking natural beauty, including glaciers, snow-capped mountains, waterfalls, black sand beaches, and aurora.
The aurora?
The mention of it reminded Regina of Douglas's Aurora avatar, which he had used for many years, as well as his IG post from six years ago, in which he wrote: [Wanting to see Aurora with her]. Regina rubbed her lips and looked into his eyes. After a moment of contemplation, she said, "I'm not very keen on going there."
Douglas raised an eyebrow. "You don't like the aurora?"
Regina hesitated a second. She had seen many stunning images of the aurora and had once dreamed of seeing them when she had the time and means. However, she felt that she wasn't the most suitable person to go with Douglas to see it.
"I'm not particularly fond of them," Regina said.
Douglas was in a spin. He thought to himself, 'It's normal for her preferences to change after all these years.'
"You can choose our honeymoon destination. We can go wherever you want, as long as you can have fun," he said. He always respected her choices.
Regina thought, 'With someone as kind as Douglas, all wishes should be able to come true. Why couldn't he be with the girl who wanted to see the aurora six years ago instead of marrying me?'
Peace Club. Charles looked depressed. He felt uncomfortable playing cards without Douglas. Douglas excelled in everything, and Charles could only win when they played cards. Just the thought of Douglas saying, 'I have to listen to Mrs. Semona,' gave him goosebumps. He couldn't understand what had gotten into Douglas. As he was about to send a message to Douglas, he saw Douglas's Instagram post. Douglas hadn't posted on Instagram for at least six months. Even when he did, it was usually about boring financial information, rarely sharing his personal life on Instagram.
Although Charles wasn't interested in Douglas's Instagram, he still wanted to take a look. Suddenly, Charles's eyes were like saucers.
He stared at the photo of the woman and the dog, along with the caption: [Welcome our newest family member], feeling a sense of happiness and peace emanating from the phone.
"Damn it!" Charles grabbed his phone and jumped up as if he had stepped on a spring. "I can't take it anymore." To Charles, such a scene was too much to bear. He had known Douglas for many years, they had grown up together, and Douglas had never treated him like this before. Douglas had never posted about him on Instagram. So, he was less important than that golden retriever. With that in mind, Charles gritted his teeth and typed a line of text: [Is it really that great to have a wife?] Charles's tone was filled with jealousy. He wanted to drive away all those who flexed their love. Send one to the South Pole and the other to the North Pole. Even if they wore matching couple down jackets, it wouldn't help.
"Charles, what's up? Why do you look like that?" Charles threw his phone on the table. "Take a look for yourselves."
After hearing Charles's words, everyone looked at his phone. They almost simultaneously exclaimed when they saw the photo—a rare sight.
Very soon, Douglas posted another photo on Instagram. It was a picture of dinner—very ordinary spaghetti—and it was clear that he had beautified the photo with the caption: [Thanks to my wife for making me dinner].
"Is Douglas crazy?" Charles complained. "He will be taught a lesson sooner or later." Charles felt more and more that something was wrong. He took his phone again and zoomed in on the two photos, studying them repeatedly. However, after a long time, he still didn’t know what Douglas's wife looked like.
"Is his wife afraid of being seen? Last time at the club, when his wife came to pick him up, I saw her face with a mask. This time, he only took a picture of her back. Why did he hide his wife?"
"Who knows?" A man lying on the sofa playing games took off his baseball cap, revealing a charming face. His eyes were focused on the phone, and he lazily muttered, "The last time I called him, he didn't listen to me. I don't know what he's thinking."
Josh, sitting across from Charles, remained calm. "He has liked someone for many years. If he can't be with her, he won't be with anyone else. So, he has been single. It's rare for him to meet someone he likes."
Josh thought, 'Maybe this woman is the one Douglas has always liked.'
However, he did not tell anyone about his bold guess.
