Chapter 29 It Might Be a Coincidence

Miranda said she followed this account when she was in college.
Regina had to say, "He might be someone we knew in college, right? I don't really remember; I just thought the Golden Retriever was cute, so I liked it. I had a Golden Retriever for twelve years."
Regina felt a bit guilty, but Miranda believed her. Compared to Regina suddenly getting married to their boss, someone Miranda had followed for years, Regina's story seemed more believable.
"Oh, I see. Well, I was just curious. It's already ten o'clock, and I'm bothering you with a call. Go to bed. By the way, think carefully about the Norman University. I just heard a rumor that Dougal will be at the event, but I'm not quite sure. Anyway, the final guest list should be out in the next few days."
Regina nodded and said, "Okay."
After hanging up the phone, Regina stared at the two screenshots Miranda had sent, lost in thought. This was all too weird. Regina couldn't understand why Miranda would follow Douglas's private IG, and had no idea.
So, Regina went to the hall and asked Douglas directly. "There's something I want to ask you."
Douglas was about to get up to take a shower. Seeing Regina coming out, he patiently stopped. He looked down at Regina and asked, "What's going on?"
Regina showed him her chat record with Miranda. "This is my colleague Miranda, but why did she follow your private Instagram? And she said she seemed to follow you in college." Douglas, twenty-nine, was three years older than Regina and four years older than Miranda. Regina didn't think they would have had any interaction in college. More importantly, someone like Douglas, if he had even a slight connection with someone, they would have some impression of each other. After seeing the chat record, Douglas didn't seem particularly flustered.
"I don't know why I followed her."
"What?"
"What did she major in at Norman University?"
"Management."
"Really?" He seemed to think about it seriously. "My sister is also a management student at Norman University. She's twenty-five, so they should be in the same year."
They did have some contact, but it was too extensive, like a dense spider web. Regina couldn't figure it out for a while, and Douglas seemed to have no memory of how he followed Miranda's Instagram.
She tentatively asked, "What's your sister's name?" Although it had been some time since Regina and Douglas got married, Douglas rarely mentioned his family to her, and she didn't ask. Besides, the Semona family was known for being traditional and low-key, and there was little information about them online, so Regina really didn't know that Douglas had a sister who also graduated from Norman University.
"Nicole."
"Okay, I see. You probably just occasionally followed each other." Seeing that Douglas really couldn't remember, Regina didn't force the issue. Finally, Regina didn't mention any of this to Miranda.
She just asked Miranda if she remembered a girl named Nicole. Miranda said, "I remember, of course I remember her. She was my classmate. She's very pretty and elegant, obviously from a wealthy family. Why do you suddenly ask?"
"Oh, nothing. You mentioned college, so I was just curious." This should have been a coincidence. Regina couldn't figure it out, so she gave up.
The next morning, Miranda and Regina were delighted to confirm that Dougal would attend the Dubbing Club event at Norman University. They immediately decided to return to their alma mater on the 20th of this month. Regina was more focused on her work. Although Douglas agreed to let her take two days off, she couldn't afford to neglect her job, so she worked late until 8 p.m.
At this time, a silver Aston Martin pulled over at a place that Century Group employees must pass. Philip sat in the car, smoking several cigarettes. Mars had already inquired about Regina's work here, and he even knew that she was working overtime today, so she hadn't finished work yet. Regina would pass by this intersection after work. Philip took out his phone and checked the time.
Suddenly, he remembered something, so he opened Regina's Instagram. The last time they chatted was on Philip's birthday. She said: [ Happy birthday. I hope you will be safe and happy in the future and that everything will go as you wish.]
Regina had made it very clear, but Philip felt that he couldn't understand her. In the years they had been together, Philip thought he knew what kind of person Regina was. Regina loved him so much, so how could she give him the silent treatment and argue with him for so long over a few words?
Philip smoked and scrolled through the screen with his fingertips. Through those chat histories, Philip discovered that Regina was indeed very humble in this relationship. Regina had texted Philip at 2 a.m., asking him to drink less and go back to rest early. Even though Philip responded to Regina's message with a cold "okay," she didn't seem to mind. She would go to him in the middle of the night and take the drunk back home. No matter how indifferent Philip's attitude was, Regina didn't seem to get angry, as if she had taken for granted that he loved her.
That's right, they had known each other for so many years. Philip was generous to Regina. When she encountered trouble, Philip also helped her solve many problems. Philip kept scrolling up and found signs of arguments between them six months ago.
It all started with a dog. That day, Regina picked up a stray dog on the roadside. After taking the dog to the pet hospital for a bath and vaccination, she was planning to take it home and adopt it. When Philip went to her house, he immediately asked her to get rid of the dog. Regina cautiously asked if he could keep the dog. Philip said he didn't like dogs.
Regina insisted that she wanted to try to raise the dog. After all, Philip didn't go to her house often. Philip sneered and asked her, "I don't like dogs, but you insist on keeping it, so in your heart, is this dog more important than me, right?"
Later, Regina sent the dog away. But they also argued with each other that night. It couldn't even be called an argument. Philip sent two messages in a row to Regina, but she didn't respond to him. Philip continued to scroll up, and some distant memories all came to his mind. The more Philip looked at Regina's Instagram, the more annoyed he felt, and there was a subtle feeling in his heart that even he didn't notice.
