Chapter 38 Good Girl
"Jason, take them back to the car."
Jason respectfully handed the knife to Douglas and then walked over to Regina, showing his respect. "Ms. Valrose, please come with me."
Regina hesitated for a few seconds, her hand by her side unconsciously clenched.
Seeing her standing there, Douglas raised his voice, "Please get in the car."
The intense pain in Vitas's eyes almost drove him crazy, but Douglas's every move made him acutely aware of the current situation. Vitas always felt that there was something special between Regina and Douglas. Perhaps Regina was just one of his mistresses. What kind of woman would be willing to be a mistress? So cheap that she would try to seduce a man who was already taken.
"Mr. Semona, you've misunderstood me. I had no intention of doing anything to Regina. I'm her sister's boyfriend, and tonight, she was the one who..."
Douglas's face darkened, already anticipating what he was going to say. The man who had previously coveted Regina and tried to slander her was now ready to go to jail, where he might die. This time, Douglas didn't have the patience he had the first time.
He sneered, pinched Vitas's mouth open, and pressed the sharp blade against Vitas's tongue, not intending to give him a chance to speak.
"If you're so noisy, how about I cut off your tongue?"
Jason, afraid that Regina would see the bloody scene, deliberately turned the Bugatti Veyron back. Regina's palms were sweaty, and she felt uncomfortable. The piercing scream pierced her eardrums. It felt like something was violently colliding in her mind.
After what seemed like an eternity, at the moment of her restless unease, the driver's side door of the Bugatti Veyron was opened. Regina's gaze fell upon the hand resting on the car door. The hand was clean and smooth, like a work of art. The only flaw was the crimson blood on the fingertips, which he didn't notice.
When Douglas returned, Jason immediately got out of the car.
"Jason, handle the rest," Douglas calmly and casually said, then got into the driver's seat and started the car. The black super sports car raced along the coastal highway like a bolt of lightning.
Douglas glanced at the silent Regina, unsure of what she was thinking. "I'm sorry, I couldn't help it." The fierceness in her had diminished. He was even apologizing for what had just happened.
Regina's mind was in a mess, and she asked, "Are you okay?"
"So, you were lost in thought because you were worried about me?"
Of course, she was worried about him. But there was also a bit of surprise and unease because it was the first time she had seen him do something like that. In Regina's mind, he was as noble and clean as the snow on a mountain. She never thought he would do something like this.
"Regina, there are some things I can't stand."
With his words, Regina stopped overthinking. Regina sat quietly in the car, the thrilling scene from earlier flashing through her mind.
"How did you know Vitas took me?"
Because he had his 'eyes' on her, after Marshall harassed her and Philip's attempt to trap her downstairs at her company, Douglas had Jason arrange for someone to keep an eye on her. Of course, he didn't tell Regina the truth. Douglas didn't want her to feel like she was being 'watched' by him.
"I had nothing to do at home, so I thought I'd come and pick you up. Thanks to you, you told me everything and even sent me the location for dinner."
Regina felt a sense of relief at his words.
"Then I'll have to contact you more frequently in the future."
"Okay, good girl."
Regina didn't say anything.
After one in the morning, Regina was awakened from her sleep by a call from Melissa.
"Regina, Vitas was beaten, and he's in the hospital. Do you know about this?"
After the dinner, the Valrose family left before them, and something like this happened all of a sudden. "Vitas's eye was burned, and his vocal cords were damaged. How could this happen? This is clearly abuse!"
In Oriant, the Johnson family was very influential. Who would dare to abuse Mr. Johnson like this?
Regina opened her mouth, but before she could speak, she heard Sandra's voice on the other end of the phone, crying. "Mom, his eye won't get better, and his voice won't recover. What should I do? Am I supposed to marry a blind man, a mute? Dad even said to go see him now, but I don't want to go; I'm too scared!"
Melissa quickly comforted Sandra, "Don't worry. Listen to your dad first, and go see him. Vitas was not bad to you before, and you should go and visit him. In addition, the Johnson family is so rich that they will do their best to cure him."
The current situation was extremely chaotic for the Johnson family, the Greenwood family, Sandra, and her mother.
Regina silently hung up the phone and turned it off, placing it on the bedside table. In Regina's mind was the look Douglas gave Vitas. That look was calm yet imposing. Regina thought this matter would cause a big uproar.
As a party involved, Regina had even prepared to be summoned by the police at any time, but several days had passed, and nothing had happened. Even the Johnson family didn't call the police. Douglas indeed had power and means. Although Vitas's eye and vocal cords were beyond repair, David Greenwood, Sandra's stepfather, insisted on marrying Sandra to Vitas.
After all, the real estate industry was becoming more and more depressed, and the Greenwood Group could maintain its cover, but there were actually big problems internally. The Greenwood Group needed a large amount of financing and loans, so they had to get along well with the Johnson family.
Sandra was almost driven crazy. She even called Regina and screamed, cursing Regina for ruining her life. "All my beauty is gone because of you! If you hadn't come that day, Vitas wouldn't have had an accident!"
"You asked for it. Why are you screaming in pain?" Regina hung up the phone coldly.
Melissa was unhappy because of this, and she had tried to contact Regina several times, but she never seemed to get a response. She shook her head helplessly. "Regina, you are sometimes too calm, calm enough to scare me. This is not a good thing."
People who are too calm tend to lack emotional resonance and are difficult to get along with. Melissa thought Regina's character was too sharp and unlikable.
Regina thought that when Melissa said this, she must have forgotten the scene of her chasing after her in pain when she left home in a luxury car with Sandra that year. Regina shouted 'Mom' with all her might, crying and begging her not to go.
But it didn't work. Regina couldn't get her mother's pity, nor could she get her to turn back. "
