Chapter 55 Inheritance Snatching

After work on Friday, Douglas went straight to the hospital. Tasha's condition wasn't good. She had been in a coma since the surgery. Douglas knew Regina was upset, so he spent most of his time at the hospital with her, except when he had urgent matters at the company.
After five days in the ICU, Tasha was transferred to a regular ward. Seeing Tasha covered in various tubes and looking as frail as a straw, Regina's face held an abnormal calmness. The doctor called Regina into the office and explained Tasha's condition in detail. Essentially, they had done all they could, and whether Tasha's condition would improve was now in God's hands.
Regina stiffly nodded and said, "I understand." With nothing else to discuss, Regina hurried back to the ward to be with Tasha. However, as she reached the door, she overheard a conversation inside.
"When did Tasha buy this diamond bracelet? The quality is excellent, probably worth a million dollars," Madison, thinking she knew a lot about diamonds, estimated the price of the bracelet. She continued, "How can Tasha afford something so expensive? It doesn't seem like a fake."
Regina's face turned cold as she forcefully pushed open the door to the ward. The sound of the door opening startled the two inside. It wasn't until they turned around and saw Regina's pale, weak face that they breathed a sigh of relief.
"Regina," Fred, in a dark gray jacket, said seriously, "It's been a long time since we last met. I've been busy with work, but how could you not tell me about Tasha's illness? I should have come back to see her and take care of her."
Looking at his hypocritical face, Regina felt a wave of disgust. This was the father, who had betrayed his wife, left his family, and now returned with that third party, Madison, rummaging through Tasha's things. What he wanted to do was too obvious.
The ward was filled with the pungent smell of disinfectant, and Madison didn't want to stay a moment longer. She took Fred's arm and whispered, "Honey, should we talk to your daughter first?"
Fred calmed Madison with his eyes, then turned to Regina and asked, "Tasha can't wake up right now, right? Did she ever mention anything about the distribution of her assets to you? I know Tasha transferred a set of apartments under her name to you, but she has more than one property. She also has a house in Bayview Heights, which should rightfully be mine, considering I'm her only son."
After speaking, Fred's gaze fell on the diamond bracelet that Madison had taken out of the drawer. "All her belongings should be mine. According to the legal inheritance order, I, as her son, should be the first in line for distribution."
"You're already thinking about the distribution of the inheritance before she has even passed away?" Regina sneered and said, "You betrayed your wife and daughter for true love. It's been twenty years, and you still haven't achieved anything. Is an old house worth coming back to fight for?"
Regina hit Fred's sore spot. His originally insincere expression immediately fell apart. Madison was also resentful because of Regina's words, but she thought it would be better for Fred to handle the inheritance matter. She didn't want to show her hostility in front of Fred.
So she smiled gently at Regina and said in a seemingly gentle tone with a hint of sarcasm, "Regina, I heard you're working at Century Group now. It's a world-famous company. You're really talented, and I'm happy for you. But your father hasn't been doing well in his business. He started a company with someone, but that person turned out to be untrustworthy and cheated your father."
Madison complained with a sense of grievance, but Regina didn't believe a word of it. "You're capable now, so can you return the house to your father?"
The price of real estate in Oriant was so high, and although the house in Tasha's hands was an old one, its location in Bayview Heights was excellent, and it's normal for a house to be valued at a million dollars. "Your father's company is in urgent need of money. When he gets the house and the money, the company's situation will improve, and then we can give it back to you."
"You have no right to make such a request to me!"
Madison frowned dissatisfiedly and said, "Regina, we are all educated people, and we should still have the most basic courtesy. I have no ill intentions, I just.. "
"What kind of higher education have you received that makes you so shameless?"
Madison felt even more wronged and had to turn her head to look at Fred, saying, "Honey, I just want to have a good discussion with your daughter. After all, the current situation is not good for everyone."
Looking at Madison's gentle and sensible behavior and Regina's cold, strong attitude, Fred disliked his daughter even more. He knew Regina hated him. But he didn't think he had done anything wrong when he left this family. His marriage with Melissa had come to an end, and if they forced themselves to live together, no one would be happy.
"I'm not here to negotiate with you. I'll call a lawyer to come and sign an agreement with you." Fred's attitude has become more assertive. He knew that Tasha might have already made a will, giving all her property to Regina. If he wanted to get it back, he could only make Regina sign an agreement to transfer and donate the inheritance voluntarily. This would also save some trouble.
"The things in Tasha's hands were left to her by your grandfather. Do you know what your grandfather's last name is?" Fred stared at Regina and said, "Remember, your last name is Valrose now. The court awarded you to Melissa. And you, a girl, will eventually get married. Why do you hold on to these things that don't belong to you?" At this moment, Fred's eyes were only filled with calculations and interests.
Regina pointed at the bed and said, "Have your eyes looked at that bed since I came in? Grandma is just unconscious, not dead. You usually don't come to see her, but now you rush over for a house?" Regina said with a cold smile, "You want the house? Then wait until you've done what a son should do, and then I'll consider it."
"What do you mean?"
"Don't you know what a son should do?" Regina said expressionlessly, "I want you to take care of Grandma personally."
Take care? Madison's eyes fell on the bed with a hint of fear. This kind of care was probably about taking care of her grandmother's excrement and bathing her. Just thinking about these things made Madison feel nauseous.
Fred also knew that Regina was deliberately making things difficult for them. He said unhappily, "I'll hire a caregiver for her."
"If you do that, then transferring the house is not within my consideration."
