Chapter 93 The Desire to Get Closer

Regina's heart suddenly felt heavy. She pushed against Douglas's strong chest with both hands to create some distance between them.

Douglas's straightforwardness startled Regina. Suppressing her complex emotions, she carefully asked him, "Did you drink too much?"

"No, just one glass," he replied.

Douglas realized that every move he made now was crossing the line in their relationship.

But they were so close that Regina's body heat and her breath made him want to get closer.

However, he restrained himself.

He got up from the bed, stood by the bedside, stared at Regina for a while, then looked away and walked out without saying a word.

Regina lay helplessly on the bed and closed her eyes.

She didn't stay awake all night; instead, she was quite tired and soon fell asleep.

When she woke up the next morning, Douglas had already left.

After breakfast, Regina went to work as usual.

Douglas had been very busy lately; it was said he was vying for a major project.

To be precise, he was fighting to secure a major project.

And this project was one that the Heyday Group under the Sterling family had always wanted.

The Century Group had a broad reach and was a major competitor to many domestic companies. However, previously, there had been no significant business entanglements or conflicts of interest between the Century Group and the Heyday Group. But at the beginning of this year, Douglas extended his reach into the area that the Heyday Group had always dominated.

This move undoubtedly caused a stir within the Sterling family. Philip's father and brother initially didn't understand why Douglas would do something so aggressive and domineering.

It wasn't until they heard rumors later that they realized Philip had offended Douglas.

Philip's father, William, was extremely furious.

They simply couldn't afford to provoke Douglas.

Although William didn't directly remove Philip from his position as vice president at the Heyday Group, he secretly stripped Philip of his rights to participate in and make decisions on major projects, as a warning to Philip.

The incident happened suddenly, and Mars was a bit worried about Philip's situation.

When he went to find Philip at the Peace Club, Philip was sitting there drinking by himself.

The dim light and shadows on his face made his hostility even more pronounced.

Mars walked over and softly called, "Mr. Sterling."

Philip didn't even bother to lift his eyelids. "What's up?"

Mars initially wanted to persuade Philip that this wasn't the way to go. But it seemed there was nothing worth persuading. Philip had always known what he wanted.

Now that Regina had become Douglas's woman, and he hadn't stopped provoking Douglas, Philip knew well that this situation would come.

Philip wasn't the type to sit and wait for death; he surely had plans for the future.

So, Mars didn't bring up the company's matters again. He changed the subject and said, "Your father's 60th birthday is the day after tomorrow. What gift do you want to give him? I'll prepare it for you."

Although William favored Philip's brother, in the end of the day, Philip was still William's son. If Philip could please William a bit and behave better, he wouldn't get nothing.

Seeing that Philip wasn't speaking, Mars proactively took out a photo and handed it to Philip, saying, "Mr. Sterling, how about this painting?"

Philip slowly swallowed a sip of his drink, then glanced at the photo in front of him.

He sneered. "You know, I've always wished he'd die sooner. Get that thing away from me. It disgusts me. I won't give him any gift."

Mars's face stiffened.

Although he knew what Philip had in mind, Philip used to at least pretend to be a good son. Now, he didn't even want to pretend.

"Your father's health has improved a lot. According to the doctor, barring any accidents, he can live for a long time with good care and rest. Mr. Sterling, no matter what, you should hold on for now."

Philip suddenly smiled. "You said 'barring any accidents.' What if there is an accident?"

Mars looked at Philip in disbelief.

Philip continued pouring wine into his empty glass, his eyes cold and hard.

Over the years, the good deals and easy business had all gone to Edward, making Edward's life smooth sailing.

William gave all the difficult deals to Philip.

For so many years, Philip had been treated like a stepping stone for Edward. In the end, he still couldn't get William and Edward's approval. They even humiliated him like a dog.

Philip finally decided to fight back.

William's 60th birthday party was quite lively.

But Philip didn't attend that day.

It was said that he deliberately refused the marriage proposal with Juliet, the eldest daughter of the Brook family, on that day.

Every step he took made his position in the Sterling family and the Heyday Group increasingly difficult.

No one knew why he did it.

However, if you wanted to know what he was thinking, it was actually quite obvious.

Because he later tried every way to find Regina, wanting to see her again.

Of course, he didn't get his wish.

He thought that after blocking her near the hotel in Norman City and telling her about the incident at the Seasons Hotel, Regina would soon know that Douglas was the person at the Seasons Hotel that night.  .

But he also guessed that she wouldn't return to him because of this..

Douglas was in the Peace Club tonight as well.

Charles initially found it strange; Douglas was never one to indulge in debauchery or stay out all night, but lately, he had been spending many evenings here after work.

Charles remembered the last phone call, saw some recent news, and cautiously asked, "Is Philip causing trouble?"

Douglas frowned and looked over, seemingly waiting for what he had to say next.

Charles said, "I kind of know what's going on between you and Philip now. It's because of your wife, right? Regina used to date Philip."

Hearing this, Douglas's face darkened.

But Charles didn't change his words, as it was the truth.

Since that phone call, Charles had finally accepted the fact that Douglas's wife was the woman who had dated Philip for six years.
