Chapter 119 Who Is Worth Your Thoughts
Douglas understood that there must be a reason behind Regina's sudden request.
After all, some time ago, Douglas could sense her softening, feeling that she wasn't opposed to making their relationship public. But now, she took the initiative to say not to go public, and when she mentioned it, there was a hint of helplessness and fear in her eyes.
No subtle change in her expression escaped his eyes.
Douglas gently kissed her on the forehead. "If you don't want to go public, we won't. I respect your opinion, but if possible, I'd like to know the reason."
Having come this far, Regina knew there was no need to hide it.
She lowered her eyes slightly and said softly, "Someone warned me that if you make our relationship public, there would be risks. I know you're can handle risks, but... I don't want you to bear them."
'Not even a little bit,' her inner voice said.
"Is it Philip?" His intuition was always particularly sharp.
Regina didn't avoid it and nodded slightly.
In an instant, silence hung over the air.
Regina looked up into Douglas's eyes.
His eyes were deep and dark, like an abyss.
Regina didn't know what he was thinking at that moment.
Just as her thoughts began to scatter, he patted her head. "Don't be upset. Remember, whatever happens in the future, tell me first. As long as you say it, I'll find a way to handle it, understand? Even if you want to leave me one day, remember to tell me first. As long as you're happy, I'll respect any choice you make."
He faintly smiled as if joking, but it made Regina's heart skip a beat.
She thought, 'How could I bear to leave someone so good?'
His love, even if once hidden in the shadows, had grown into a towering tree, sheltering her from the wind and rain.
She was never a passionate person.
But suddenly, she wanted to be passionate for once.
No matter what happened, she wanted to stand firmly by his side this time.
"Come on, don't be upset." He seemed to ignore what she had said earlier, or perhaps he heard it and kept it in his heart but didn't want her to worry. He just said, "Think of something happy."
'Something happy?' Regina almost instinctively thought of this weekend. A slight smile appeared on her lips.
Seeing this, Douglas asked, "What are you thinking about?"
She hesitated. "I think if I say it, you might get mad."
"Let's hear it."
"I'm thinking about a man," Regina said seriously.
He raised an eyebrow, unconcerned. "What kind of man is worth your thoughts?"
"It's Dougal."
When Regina mentioned this name, there was indeed a light in her eyes.
During a tough time, when she had trouble sleeping, Regina would listen to his radio drama to fall asleep.
As a voice actor and radio drama enthusiast, Dougal's voice was one she admired.
Dougal was special to Regina.
Douglas chuckled but didn't respond.
Regina continued, "Do you think I should prepare a gift for our first meeting? You probably understand men better than I do, right?"
She tugged lightly at his shirt cuff, her eyes pleading. "Mr. Semona, help me out. Last time, because of some issues on my end, the recording was delayed. The producer said he's very busy."
Because she wanted to record together, they had repeatedly made time for her.
Regina felt that no matter what, she should give a gift to show her apology.
"The gift is unnecessary," said Douglas.
Hearing Douglas's matter-of-fact tone, Regina frowned. "How can that be?"
"Why not?" He half-jokingly, half-seriously said. "He delayed the recording to see you, so he might like you. Seeing you would make him happy."
Why did that sound so strange?
"But I don't have any other intentions towards him!"
"You mean he has other intentions towards you?" Douglas was clearly teasing her.
"I wouldn't cheat!"
"Good girl, Mrs. Semona." Douglas's tone changed slightly, deliberately mimicking the male lead's voice from "Loving You for a Long Time."
It was gentle, seductive, and textured.
In fact, a voice actor's voice in recordings and real life can differ, and with Douglas's highly versatile voice, he had voiced five radio dramas as Dougal, each with a different style.
So it wasn't surprising that Regina, despite spending so much time with him, hadn't noticed anything.
Of course, there were many times when Douglas had given hints. She would feel a sense of familiarity when hearing his voice, but it was like a breeze brushing past her ear—tangible but ungraspable.
Hearing that, Regina couldn't help but keep staring at him.
Douglas met her gaze without any discomfort.
But she seemed entranced, bewitched.
On Friday evening, after work, Regina planned to fly from Oriant City to Normon City.
Miranda, upon hearing the news, was even more excited than she was.
"Congratulations, Regina! Your wish has come true!"
'A wish come true? What a beautiful blessing,' Regina thought.
As a child, Regina had naively made one wish after another.
But the later Regina seemed to have no great expectations for anyone or anything. Until Douglas appeared.
Regina sat in the airport lounge, staring at her chat with Douglas on her phone, her fingers hovering over the text box.
She typed and deleted several lines repeatedly.
Just before boarding, Regina finally sent the message.
She said: [Mr. Semona, I can't wait to see you.]
Douglas looked at the message, deep in thought.
Regina arrived in Normon City in the middle of the night.
Though it was early spring, the night was still cold. Regina, weary from travel, checked into the hotel, quickly freshened up, and lay in bed looking at her phone.
Douglas had sent a message.
He asked her to call him when she arrived.
Regina glanced at the time—it was already 3 AM. 'Would calling disturb his rest?'
As she hesitated, another message from him popped up.
He asked: [Have you arrived?]
Regina no longer hesitated and immediately called him.
"Are you really looking forward to seeing me?" Douglas asked.
Regina was silent for two seconds, her mind racing. Finally, she suppressed a certain thought and said calmly, "No matter how soon, I still have to wait until I return from Normon City in two days. I can't just open the door and see you now."
"That's not necessarily impossible."
