Chapter 212 It's Quite Normal for Him to Lose Control Occasionally
After a week in the hospital, Regina finally came back to Semona Estate.
Elizabeth, drawing from her own experience, hired a top-tier postpartum care team to look after Regina and the babies.
Douglas cut back on work big time for the first half of the year. Unless he absolutely had to be at the office, he stuck around Regina and the babies non-stop.
He wasn't just hanging around; he picked up a ton of tips on taking care of a mom and baby from the family’s childcare pros. He got the hang of it pretty fast and soon could handle most things on his own.
But, of course, he hit a few bumps along the way.
Ten days after the babies were born, in the dead of night, Regina spiked a high fever, totally catching him off guard. He called the doctor right away.
The doc said the fever might be from a blocked milk duct.
The Semona family had been worried that breastfeeding two babies would wear Regina out, so they all suggested she go with formula.
But Regina had plenty of breast milk. If she didn’t pump it out in time, her breasts would get rock hard.
Sometimes she’d wake up in the middle of the night, her clothes soaked.
The doctor gave her some fever meds.
By morning, Regina’s fever finally broke.
The doc suggested using a breast pump regularly to store the milk in bottles for the babies. But if it was the middle of the night and the babies were asleep, it was tough to do.
Regina, waking up in the middle of the night, was too tired to move and would murmur, "Douglas, help me."
Douglas got the hint right away. So, he helped Regina express her milk himself.
Later, Regina woke up to Douglas’s touch and blushed.
"Sorry." The noise woke her up, and Douglas felt pretty awkward.
Regina, now fully awake, gave him an understanding smile. He had been abstinent for too long, and it was normal for him to lose control occasionally.
Regina, unable to sleep due to Douglas's actions, quietly lay in his arms.
On the tenth day after giving birth, Regina felt that everything was going well. She hoped it would always be this good.
In the blink of an eye, it was early April. The weather in Oriant City was clear and sunny.
The family had already started preparing for Matt and Lily's birthday celebration.
Douglas didn't get involved in these matters, leaving them entirely to the family.
Matt and Lily's celebration was set for April 12th and was organized grandly, with friends and the Semona family all attending.
Regina also dressed beautifully for the occasion. She wore a crescent white mermaid dress, her thick, wavy hair pinned up at the back.
When Douglas saw Regina, he couldn't hide his amazement.
Regina explained, "Mom and Nicole helped me pick this out. I've never worn anything like this before."
"It suits you." Especially when she smiled, he was utterly captivated.
At the celebration, there was a toasting segment. Douglas, in a good mood, went from table to table with a glass of wine, while Regina accompanied him with a glass of water.
When they got to Charles's table, he stood up, downed his drink, and joked, "Congrats, Douglas! An old man with both a son and a daughter—you're living the dream!"
Charles was only a few months younger than Douglas. While Douglas had a son and a daughter at thirty-one, Charles was still getting nagged by his family to be home by ten and not to mess around. What a difference.
Douglas just laughed it off, not bothered at all. He even pretended to be concerned. "You're not getting any younger either. You should settle down. It's not good to keep messing around. Be good and stop causing trouble."
Charles bit his tongue.
Michael, standing nearby, raised his glass to Regina. "I've been waiting for a chance, and today I finally got it. Regina, this toast is for you. Thank you!"
Michael's thank you left everyone scratching their heads.
Charles frowned and asked, "What are you thanking her for?"
"Of course, for marrying Douglas." Michael remembered the time he went out for a meal with Douglas, only to be snapped by paparazzi, leading to rumors of a gay relationship between them.
"Are you really not gay?" Charles suddenly looked all gossipy.
Michael knew Charles had a nose for gossip. Charles's words suggested he had caught onto something, but Michael stayed cool, casually asking, "What do you mean by that?"
Charles shrugged. "Never mind, as long as you know."
Charles's words sounded like he was keeping a secret for him, but before Michael could relax, Charles added seriously, "Love is love, whether it's same-sex or opposite-sex. Every love deserves respect. Great love is always the union of souls."
Michael went quiet.
Regina got it too. Though a flash of surprise crossed her eyes, she quickly composed herself, looking at Charles with approval.
Michael felt like everyone was giving him knowing looks. For a moment, he felt irritated and didn't want to engage.
After finishing the toasts, Douglas, seeing Regina had followed him around, worried she might be tired, wrapped his arm around her waist and took her to the lounge.
The celebration was at the swankiest hotel in Oriant City. The hotel thoughtfully provided a lounge for its guests.
In the quiet space, Regina smelled the strong scent of alcohol on Douglas and frowned slightly. "Why did you drink so much?"
Douglas loosened his tie and unbuttoned a few buttons on his shirt. Sitting on the sofa, he exuded a lazy, carefree vibe. He said, "I was in a good mood, so I drank a bit more."
Regina had given birth safely, and over the past month, her condition hadn't worsened, which was something to be happy about.
However, after this celebration, the date of Regina's surgery was approaching. This surgery was her biggest challenge.
Douglas looked at Regina intently for a long time, holding her waist.
Finally, when she softly murmured "Douglas," he couldn't hold back any longer. He lowered his head and kissed her lips.
Regina couldn't resist either and responded passionately.
Outside, the grand celebration continued. Inside, it was a place of intense passion and desire.
