Chapter 34 Fireworks
Philip seemed to have endless social engagements. On Sunday evening, he showed up at the Peace Club once again.
"Mr. Sterling is coming!" someone exclaimed, immediately vacating the central spot for him. Philip sat down on the sofa, and without a word, he was handed a drink, looking apathetic.
"Mr. Sterling, what's up? I heard you were at The Shades last night. Did the women there not meet your standards?" He looked like he didn't get enough of sex.
"Shut up!" Philip's response was sharp.
The man continued with his lewd remarks without anger, suggesting that "perhaps you're not playing it right; you need to add something exciting. Last time, I found a girl who seemed very aloof, like nobody could get close to her. But I just added a bit of aphrodisiac to her drink, and she became incredibly seductive and alluring. That night is unforgettable."
Philip shot him a cold glare. In the dimly lit room, the man failed to catch Philip's expression or understand his warning. "What do you think, Mr. Sterling? Interested? I have plenty of 'enhancements' with me." "As a man, you should understand this feeling. A few days before your birthday, I arranged something special at the Peace Club."
The man's words trailed off. He wanted to mention that a few days before Philip's birthday, Regina had come to pick him up, and they had a drink. Considering Regina's beauty, he assumed Philip must have enjoyed himself. But then he thought about the consequences. They would die if Philip found out. Anyone who knew Philip was aware of his intolerance for manipulation and deceit.
The man's abrupt silence raised Philip's suspicion. He fixed his gaze on him and asked, "What happened a few days before my birthday?"
"Nothing, I was just saying that I got a new batch of 'enhancements.' I still have some left. Would you like to try?"
Philip, his patience wearing thin, undid a few buttons on his shirt and said in a low voice, "Give them to me."
Douglas didn't return home until nearly 9 p.m. on Sunday. Regina had prepared dinner with the kitchen staff.
"You're back!" she exclaimed, rushing to greet him with Molly. Regina couldn't pinpoint when her feelings towards him had changed, but they had grown increasingly intimate. During his absence, the house had felt empty, and she found herself looking forward to his return.
Douglas looked at the welcoming faces and smiled.
"You were waiting for me?" he asked.
Regina nodded.
"It's almost 9 p.m. You didn't have to wait this late."
"I just wanted to have dinner with you," Regina interrupted, "Can we, Mr. Semona?"
Douglas' mood brightened, and he naturally agreed. "Of course, Mrs. Semona. You can make any request if you want, not just for dinner," He narrowed his eyes slightly and said, "You can tell me if you have any other requests."
"Alright." Regina's agreement was casual. She didn't like the idea at all and didn't want to trouble him.
They sat down together in the dining room. The dinner was exquisitely prepared, with two dishes made by Regina herself. They ate in silence, finishing in about half an hour.
"Aren't you tired?" Douglas suddenly asked, and Regina began to wonder about his intentions. "Would you like to go out? I haven't spent time with you this weekend."
"But you've been busy with work," Regina replied. She had expected him to say he was too busy and didn't want to waste time and energy on her, but to her surprise, he said, "No matter how busy I am, I will make time for you."
Regina found it hard to refuse.
There was a fireworks display tonight. Douglas remembered her wish list and decided to take her to see the fireworks. The fireworks were supposed to start at 8:08 p.m. The person in charge of the fireworks received a call late last night, delaying the start time to 10:08 p.m.
Oriant was a city along the coast. Tonight's fireworks display was held in the huge square on the riverside avenue. A large crowd gathered on both sides of the square.
Douglas drove Regina to a landmark building next to the square. They took the elevator to the top floor. The top floor was a spacious and comfortable indoor garden surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows. The dome was a huge glass ceiling, and standing there, it felt like you could reach out to the sky and touch the stars.
Regina was amazed by the awesome sight. She had grown up in Oriant and naturally knew about this beautiful place, but she had never been here before. The floor-to-ceiling windows on all four sides offered the best view of the fireworks. When they arrived, the fireworks display had just begun.
To complement the fireworks, the lights of the surrounding skyscrapers dimmed. A firework rose into the night sky, flying up to 4921 feet before bursting with a resounding bang. It illuminated the night with a brilliant light about 3280 feet in diameter, like a meteor, instantly turning the night into a bright day.
Regina couldn't help but exclaim, "It's so beautiful!"
Douglas looked at the person beside him, her exquisite appearance and stunning figure. Her face was filled with a satisfied and joyful smile, even more beautiful than the fireworks tonight. Douglas instinctively took out his phone and took a few pictures, which Regina didn't notice.
Regina also didn't know why this man's actions always seemed to fulfill her wishes. For example, a long time ago, she wanted to have a dog and see a grand fireworks display like this. Of course, she also wanted to see the Aurora, but for some reason, she had to politely refuse him.
Twenty minutes had passed since the fireworks display ended. Regina had been watching the fireworks attentively for so long that when she turned around to say something to the person next to her, she realized that he had been watching her for a long time.
"The fireworks were beautiful. Thank you for taking me here."
Douglas smiled and leaned closer to her face, his tone slow and teasing. "So, Mrs. Semona, do I get a reward?"
