Chapter 24 Henpecked Man

Marshall always bullied others with his power, and Regina wasn't the first victim.
A year ago, a newly hired intern was raped by him. Later, she had to undergo a hysterectomy, losing her ability to conceive.
Three years ago, he manipulated a minor, leading to the girl's mental breakdown and subsequent suicide.
Douglas read the documents without any expression.
For Marshall, sexual assault, affairs, and illicit dealings were all too common. In short, his personal life was riddled with issues, and over the years, he had used his position for personal gain, causing the company significant financial losses.
Douglas threw the documents on the desk. His tone was cold but carried a sharpness that pierced the heart. "Find those victims, and if they're willing, provide them with unconditional legal support. In short, make sure he rots in jail forever."
Of course, if Marshall had only rotted in jail, he would have been too fortunate.
Who knew how long he would survive in there?
Even if he had died inside, no one would have mourned him.
After work, Regina sat in Douglas's Maybach, her head bowed in silence.
Douglas looked rather grim. He held an unlit cigarette between his fingers, flicking it with force, suppressing his anger as he asked, "How long has this been going on?"
Regina didn't even need to think to know what he was referring to. She answered truthfully, "For over two months." She had just joined the company and had become Marshall's target almost immediately.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"You've only been in your position for a short while." Although Regina had been harassed by Marshall recently, she sounded relaxed now. "This is the first time he's done something like this to me since you took over. If he tries to offend me, I'll report him."
Regina could no longer stand Marshall. Moreover, she had gathered enough evidence.
It seemed that Regina was not affected by this, and Douglas didn't say anything more.
"I'm not foolish enough to let myself be bullied." Of course, Regina knew she was lucky.
If she didn't have an upright boss like Douglas, things wouldn't have gone so smoothly. Things could have turned out as Marshall expected. The company might have protected him and forced her to take all the blame. "Thank you." When Douglas told Regina that he would handle the matter, she didn't hesitate. At that time, she unconditionally trusted him and believed that he would treat her fairly. Regina had never had such unconditional trust in anyone other than Tasha.
During the years she was with Philip, although he was generous to her and would say sweet words when he was in a good mood, Douglas didn't get angry after hearing her explanation and gratitude. He didn't bring up the matter again to upset her. He changed the subject and said, "I'm available on Saturday. I can go with you to see Tasha, okay?"
Regina was taken aback. She knew Douglas was busy, but she didn't expect him to remember these things.
She nodded happily. "Okay. Whenever I video call Tasha, she always talks about you. She really wants to meet you."
Douglas rarely saw Regina so happy, and he felt satisfied.
On their way home, there was some traffic. At an intersection, Douglas received a call from Charles. "Douglas, do you have time tonight? Let's play cards together."
Regina was right beside Douglas and heard Charles's words. If Douglas didn't accompany her tonight, she wouldn't have any objections. She smiled at him as if to say, "Take your time."
Douglas casually replied, "No."
"What's going on?" Charles didn't know what had happened.
"Nothing. I have to listen to Mrs. Semona. She doesn't like it when I'm not at home. Didn't you see her come to the club to pick me up last time?"
Charles thought he had misheard. He didn't expect Douglas to say that, nor did he expect Douglas to say it with a hint of superiority.
Regina, on the other hand, widened her eyes, looking innocent.
Charles didn't know what to say. He opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but Douglas hung up the phone.
Regina immediately said, "I'm not that petty. If you wanna hang out with him. It's up to you."
"Mrs. Semona," he reminded her seriously, "you can be petty."
Regina remained silent because she didn't know what Douglas was thinking.
The car moved on, but Regina realized it wasn't the way home. Half an hour later, the car pulled over in front of a pet store. The clerk brought out a Golden Retriever, which was only a few months old. Regina looked at it in surprise. She had a Golden Retriever when she was a child, and it had been her companion for twelve years until she left Oriant for college. The dog died at home due to old age.
She loved dogs, but because of her studies and work, she had always been busy. She was afraid she wouldn't have time to take care of a dog. Regina couldn't believe it and looked at Douglas, waiting for him to say something.
Sure enough, he said, "I suddenly want to have a dog. Mrs. Semona, do you mind?"
"Not at all!" Regina said without hesitation, "I can help you. I've had a dog before and have some experience."
"Okay, Mrs. Semona. Thank you."
Regina joyfully petted the puppy's head. She held it in her arms and didn't want to let go. Douglas watched this scene and suddenly became unhappy. He felt weird. He seemed to be jealous of the puppy.
Regina got into the car with the puppy in her arms. "You haven't named it yet, have you? What should we call it?"
"You can call it whatever you want."
Regina tentatively said, "Molly?" That was the name of the dog she had before.
"Sounds good."
Regina breathed a sigh of relief, thinking, 'Thank goodness he didn't dislike the name.' Because of Molly, their relationship seemed closer. Regina also told Douglas some interesting stories about her childhood dog.
She couldn't help but sigh. "Actually, I've always wanted to have another dog. Such a seemingly simple wish hasn't been realized for so many years." She smiled at him and said, "Mr. Semona, you've helped me fulfill a wish."
Douglas was usually busy, so he hired someone to take care of Molly. There would also be someone to help feed Molly while they were at work.
Douglas shrugged and said, "It's not a big deal." He thought, 'Mrs. Semona, take it slow. Your wishes will all come true. I know every item on your wish list.'
