Chapter 220 Coma

In just two months, Douglas had already found himself waiting outside the operating room twice.

His eyes kept darting to the door, and every little noise made him jump. Three hours later, the surgery finally wrapped up.

That evening, the nurses wheeled Regina out.

The whole Semona family had been hanging around all day. When they saw Regina, they all wanted to rush over, but then they hesitated and stepped back.

Only Douglas moved forward, his steps heavy. He looked down at her lying there, unconscious.

Her face was pale as a ghost, and an oxygen mask covered most of it. She had all these monitors hooked up to her, some of them beeping away.

A tear slipped down Douglas's cheek, but he managed a small smile.

"Mr. Semona." A doctor called out, letting him know the surgery went great. But just to be safe, Regina needed 24 hours in the ICU.

So, Douglas stood at the ICU door, watching her through the glass.

The Semona family was worried sick about Regina and Douglas too.

But this time, Douglas was way calmer than they expected.

Regina woke up for the first time when the anesthesia wore off.

She didn't stay awake long and soon drifted off again.

Douglas had a brief visit to the ICU.

He knelt by her bed, just watching her.

She looked so fragile, he was scared even a tiny movement might hurt her.

"Regina, you gotta wake up. Matt, Lily, and I are all waiting for you."

Douglas had a million things to say, but all that came out was that one sentence.

The rest could wait. He always believed they had a lifetime to say it all.

During the ICU observation, Regina only opened her eyes a few times.

The Semona family was on edge.

Even Leo couldn't keep it together.

"It's been 24 hours already, why is she still in the ICU?" Leo's body shook, and he kept sighing, "What does this mean?"

"Dad, don't worry." Herman and Elizabeth were freaking out too, but they had to calm Leo down first. "The doctor says Regina's stable, but ICU care is different from a regular ward. They're just being extra careful."

Hearing this, Leo finally relaxed a bit.

On the third day after surgery, Regina was moved from the ICU to a regular room.

During those three days, she barely woke up, but whenever she did, the first thing she saw was Douglas.

One night, Regina woke up with a sharp pain in her head.

Her eyelashes fluttered as she opened her eyes and saw Douglas's red, tear-streaked face.

Douglas had probably cried more for Regina during this time than he had in his whole life.

Elizabeth used to joke that Douglas must have been reincarnated with memories from a past life because he was always so calm and composed, even as a kid. He learned to control his emotions early and rarely cried.

"Regina."

Hearing his gentle voice, Regina wanted to respond, but when she opened her mouth, no sound came out.

Luckily, her eyes started to focus. She stared at him, unmoving, and then, out of nowhere, she smiled.

That smile was like a green light for Douglas, telling him things were finally looking up.

On the fifth day after the surgery, Regina's biopsy report came back with good news.

She was much more awake and had a bit more energy.

Douglas came back from the doctor's office and found Regina sitting up in bed, gazing out at the sunshine.

The scene reminded him of a photo he had taken the day before her surgery.

Without thinking, he grabbed his phone to snap another picture.

But as soon as he aimed the camera, she turned and smiled right at it.

It was like she knew what he was up to and played along with a loving smile.

Regina stayed in the hospital for another two weeks before she was finally discharged.

On the day she got out, Douglas kept things low-key.

If it were up to the Semona family, they would've thrown a huge celebration.

They had bent over backward for Regina.

After she got home, a lot of people wanted to visit, but Douglas turned them all away to give her time to recover.

Another month went by, and summer was in full swing.

Regina's condition and recovery had stabilized, so Douglas finally allowed visitors.

Friends, family, and colleagues from the company started dropping by.

Miranda showed up with Janet.

As soon as they saw each other, Miranda looked like she was about to cry.

She had been worried, heartbroken, and scared.

It was Miranda who had taken Regina to the hospital for that check-up and found out about the illness.

They learned how serious it was that day, but Regina had downplayed it, saying it was nothing.

If something had gone wrong because of that secrecy, Miranda would've regretted it forever.

Miranda held back her tears. Regina had been through enough, and today she just wanted to make her happy.

Miranda was lively and talkative. Regina, usually quiet, always had plenty to say when she was with Miranda.

They chatted about everything.

Miranda sighed, "Time flies, Regina. Can you believe Post-Nuptial Passion has been on the air for a year now?"

The radio drama had been a hit for a year, still holding the top spot in its niche and causing a buzz now and then.

"Fans are demanding a one-year anniversary event!"

Miranda, a radio drama fan herself, had been in the Dubbing Club in college and kept up with that world.

Regina smiled weakly, "I actually got an invite from the production team. They wanted Dougal and me to attend an offline event, but I can't go now."

Not having checked her reflection in a while, she instinctively adjusted her hat, feeling she didn't look her best.

Miranda shook her head. "No way! You're still beautiful, no matter what!"

Before Regina could respond, Douglas walked back in.
