Chapter 143 Douglas Will Be Here Soon

Philip smelled the scent of blood, his whole body tensing up.

"Don't do this. Let go!"

Just as he was about to get up, he saw Regina curling up and retreating like a wary hedgehog. "Stay away."

At this moment, he appeared like a beast in her eyes.

Philip understood that she was holding on, waiting for her salvation.

He gritted his teeth hard, and finally, his upright body slowly retreated.

Philip wasn't feeling well either.

When the drug took effect, the intense urge to possess her was more unbearable than the excruciating pain of having his tendons cut.

If it were in the past, Philip might have resorted to any means.

But now, he couldn't do that.

"I won't hurt you, and you shouldn't hurt yourself either."

Perhaps because there were surveillance cameras in the room, his voice was so low it was almost inaudible.

Regina raised her head, trying to hear what he was saying.

From his lip movements, it seemed like his last sentence was: "Douglas will be here soon."

Edward had prepared too well this time.

In this familiar old headquarters of the Heyday Group, he had set up multiple layers of barriers.

He had placed numerous bodyguards at all the entrances.

The entire building was full of traps.

For example, the top floor of the building had a wet floor, which wasn't water but gasoline.

Besides, the room where Regina and Philip were locked actually had a time bomb, with the remote control in Edward's hand.

If anyone provoked Edward, he would take everyone down with him.

Douglas didn't recklessly follow Philip into the building because he didn't have a winning card.

He was clear-headed and knew what he needed to do.

At this moment, Regina's mind was filled with Philip's vague words, "Douglas will be here soon."

Actually, she sensed it.

She painfully closed her eyes and murmured an apology to herself.

It had been twenty minutes since they were locked in that room.

Edward, watching the two in the room through the surveillance that controlled the entire building, frowned tightly.

'These two were really enduring. Was the drug not strong enough?' he thought.

Edward patiently waited for another half hour, but they still didn't move.

Seeing that this tactic wasn't working, Edward, frustrated, completely lost his patience. "Go to the 20th floor,” he ordered.

But just as he was about to implement a new plan, his phone in his pants pocket vibrated.

He took out his phone and saw it was a call from his wife.

Edward suddenly halted in his tracks.

The anger in his eyes seemed to be wiped away for a moment. He slightly calmed his emotions, and answered the call. However, before he could speak, he heard his seven-year-old son, Tommy Sterling, crying out,

"Daddy, Daddy! I'm so scared! Please come back quickly!"

Hearing the hoarse, breathless cries, Edward felt a pang in his heart, as if a cold heart had encountered a melting fire.

"Tommy, don't be afraid. I'll be back soon."

"Daddy, Daddy! I want Daddy! Please save me!"

Tommy was crying so hard he could barely speak.

Edward tried to comfort his wife, Susan Sterling. "Susan, don't worry. I'll be back soon. I'll try this one time. If I succeed, I can give you and Tommy the best of everything. If I fail, I'll never have such thoughts again. I promise you. We'll go to Hewston, the place you always wanted to go, okay?"

On the other end of the line, there was a sound of sobbing through a closed mouth.

It sounded very painful.

Edward sensed something was wrong, his heart almost jumping to his throat. "Susan, what's wrong?"

"Mr. Sterling, are you scared?" As Edward was feeling puzzled and uneasy, a cold, eerie voice reached his ears.

Edward's body stiffened, and his fingers clenched tightly, as if trying to crush the phone.

Despite not recognizing the voice, he blurted out, "Douglas?"

"Yes, Mr. Sterling." Douglas suddenly chuckled. "I don't think we have any grudges. Why did you kidnap my wife? Don't be too greedy. When you took the equity transfer from Philip, you should have stopped."

Edward closed his eyes tightly, hiding the self-mockery in his eyes. "If I stop, will you let me go?"

"No, but..." Douglas paused for a few seconds and sneered. "But I will let your wife, son, and unborn twins go."

Compared to Douglas, who remained calm, Edward clenched his fists tightly in anger and anxiety, and the veins on the back of his hands bulged.

"I think you must want to see them now. Go to the rooftop, and you can see them."

'The rooftop?'

Edward suppressed his complex emotions and rushed out, pressing the elevator button to the rooftop.

However, he didn't see Douglas.

He had set up multiple layers of barriers and ambushes around the building, so it was impossible for Douglas to bring his wife and children up quietly.

'So, was Douglas bluffing?' As Edward was guessing, he heard the voice on the other end of the phone again.

"Look across."

Edward looked up forcefully.

Opposite the old headquarters of the Heyday Group was a building of the same height.

At this moment, two figures, one big and one small, stood on the edge of the rooftop of the opposite building.

In the darkness, Edward couldn't see clearly.

But having been with his wife and watched his child grow up, Edward could recognize them by their silhouettes.

He had clearly placed his wife and children in a safe place before planning this, but they were found within a few hours?

Edward hurriedly took a binoculars from a nearby bodyguard and looked across.

Instantly, Edward's eyes showed intense turmoil.

He saw his wife and son wearing thin pajamas, tied with ropes.

Five ropes in total, binding their legs, hands, and waist.

Around them stood a group of tall, burly men in black clothes, making the two look even more weak and helpless.

Edward didn't see Douglas.

But he heard Douglas's voice through the phone. "I don't have time to waste with you. Hand over my wife."

Edward was clearly cornered, and his cold laughter carried a tremor he didn't even realize. "If I let your wife go, will you let me go?"

"Anyone who crosses me never leaves unscathed."

Douglas's attitude was firm, and Edward could only respond firmly, "Then we have nothing to talk about. So, we'll all die together!"
