Chapter 42 Because My Wife Likes It
"Welcome, everyone, to the 10th-anniversary celebration of the Norman University Dubbing Club. I'm honored to see so many friends here. It's truly beyond our expectations."
As the host's words faded, Miranda whispered to Regina, "This is the 'Dougal Effect' in action."
Before Dougal's attendance was confirmed, this event was meant to be an internal celebration for their club. However, for some reason, Dougal surprisingly agreed to come. Immediately, numerous fans of Dougal followed suit. The vast stadium was packed to the brim.
Even the host was excited, almost losing control. "Today, we not only have many former club members with us, but we also have everyone's favorite, Mr. Dougal. So, this is an amazing auditory feast!"
According to the plan, the highlight of the event was the interaction between some guests, club members, and the fans present. After a brief opening speech, the much-anticipated highlight was about to begin. Over the years, many voice actors had stepped from behind the scenes to the forefront. Some had participated in variety shows or live streams, while others had held numerous offline meet-and-greet events, so people were not unfamiliar with them.
However, Dougal, who became famous quite early, seemed to be a mystery. Amid the anticipation of all the spectators, he finally appeared.
Inside the stadium, the previously bright lights suddenly dimmed, drawing everyone's attention to the giant screen in the center of the stage.
On the screen was an introduction to Dougal and a mysterious silhouette.
"Oh my gosh, even his shadow is so handsome!" Miranda exclaimed, causing Regina, who had been staring at her WhatsApp screen, to snap out of it. Subconsciously, Regina followed Miranda's gaze towards the illusory figure behind the curtain.
That familiar feeling...
Surely, she wouldn't mistake someone tall, with long legs and a well-proportioned figure, for him. The live audience was restless, and the host had to step in to calm the crowd.
"Shh, Could everyone please quiet down a bit? Let's welcome Mr. Dougal." Instead of stepping forward, he remained behind the screen. The audience understood that some people preferred not to appear in public. As a voice actor, the most important thing was for them to 'meet' his voice. That was enough for them. They were already satisfied.
The man behind the curtain was dressed in a slightly loose white shirt, black trousers, and a knee-length black coat. Despite wearing a black mask that covered half of his face, his distinct facial features were still visible.
Beside Regina, Miranda whispered, "Do you know how I feel right now?"
"What?"
"I feel like he's so noble."
This wasn't just any voice actor; he's clearly more like a domineering CEO, okay?
Although Miranda had heard long ago that Dougal was wealthy, just him standing there made her feel his overwhelming aura of nobility.
"I'm going crazy! He's so stunning!" Miranda took numerous photos of the shadow on the screen with her phone. "It's a pity that I can't see his face, but he probably won't show it."
Some people like to keep their virtual and real worlds separate. Moreover, as a voice actor, maintaining a certain level of mystery to shape the character could make the audience more engaged. Of course, the main reason might be that he was low-key and didn't want to be in the public eye.
But if he wanted to avoid appearing, what was his purpose in coming today?
"As you all know, this is Mr. Dougal's first time participating in an offline event. Mr. Dougal, may I ask why you chose to attend this event?"
Just as the audience had this question in mind, the considerate host appeared. She was a young and beautiful girl, the current president of the Norman University Dubbing Club, and undoubtedly Dougal's most ardent fan. Dougal had a Twitter account. Although he rarely logged in, she persisted in sending him DMs every day, including an invitation to the 10th-anniversary celebration of the Norman University Dubbing Club.
Unsurprisingly, each message she sent was ignored, often remaining unread. But just a few days before this event, Dougal's staff directly contacted her, saying that Dougal was willing to attend as a guest.
Why did he come? That was the question on everyone's mind.
Regina tightly held her phone, her gaze fixed on the stage, her mind wandering. During the most difficult times, she relied on his voice to fall asleep. Now, the person was standing less than 60 feet away from her, and Regina felt as if her dream had come true.
Although Miranda had known Regina for many years, it was rare to see her with such an expression. But today, she had seen it several times. From the moment Regina stared at her phone screen, waiting for a message, to now, seeing Dougal...
Dougal held a black microphone. He deliberately imitated a certain character's voice, sounding both charming and alluring.
"I came because someone was looking forward to my presence."
As Dougal's words fell, the fans in the audience erupted into screams. It seemed like he was speaking to every one of them.
"Oh my god, I could die listening to that voice!"
"Now I understand what they mean by a voice that's pleasing to the ears! I bet his face is top-notch, too!"
"I can't even imagine how enjoyable it would be to hear that voice in a romantic context. Just one 'baby' and I'd be in orgasm!"
Regina was speechless. Amidst the noisy voices, she felt as if she were in a dream.
It was so familiar.
That voice was so familiar. On stage, the host was eagerly discussing one interesting topic after another. "You have a total of five representative works. Which one do you consider your favorite?"
The five works covered different genres, and each one was a masterpiece. It was difficult for the audience to rank them, but he casually and sincerely replied, "My favorite work is 'Loving You for a Long Time'."
"Really?" the host elongated her tone, surprised, "Why did you choose this one?"
"Because my wife loves it."
The people present fell silent.
What?
His wife?
Did they hear it correctly?
He's married?!!!
In any case, this news broke everyone's heart. Even Regina was stunned. Of course, there were people like Miranda who couldn't resist gossiping. "I wonder what kind of woman can match him? She must be amazing and outstanding!"
Regina couldn't help but lock her gaze on the man on the stage once again.
