Chapter 14 She's Mine

After the dinner, one of the members of the Frannice business team showed particular interest in Regina due to her excellent French. Regina, with her exceptional looks, naturally drew attention.
As the crowd dispersed and were about to the hotel, the man in his thirties suddenly hit on Regina and struck up a conversation.
"Ms. Valrose, I've heard that Oriant's night view is stunning. I'll be leaving the day after tomorrow. I was wondering if you'd be available tonight. I'd like you to be my guide. Of course, I'm hoping for more than just a tour." His forwardness and the way his eyes roamed over her made Regina uncomfortable.
Considering the professional setting, Regina didn't want her personal feelings to affect their cooperation. So, out of professional courtesy, she politely replied, "I'm sorry, sir. It's already late, and I'd like to go home and rest. If you need a guide, I can recommend someone more sophisticated."
However, the man ignored Regina's subtle rejection. He smiled, displaying a hint of unwarranted confidence, and said, "How about this? I'll talk with Mr. Semona."
Regina remained silent. She realized that the man seemed to believe that if he approached Douglas and explained the situation, Douglas would make Regina agree to his proposal to maintain their cooperation.
In fact, that's what Regina thought as well. She felt a little bit helpless. She wondered, 'Can employees be arranged so casually?' Regina helplessly watched the man walk towards Douglas. She heard the man trying to talk with Douglas. They were too far away for Regina to hear what was being said. Despite the man's attempts to be subtle about his intentions, Douglas understood what he was getting at. Douglas's gaze swept over the crowd and landed on Regina. Regina was always able to control her emotions well. Even though she struggled internally, her expression remained calm. Just as the man from Frannice was smiling, thinking he would get the response he wanted, Douglas's expression suddenly turned rage.
He said coldly, "She is mine." The man was taken aback. He knew Regina was Douglas's subordinate, which was why he made this request.
"Mr. Semona, what I meant was..." The man wanted to say something more, but he saw Douglas put a cigarette in his mouth. After lighting it, he took a leisurely drag before interrupting the man.
He said, "What I mean is, she is my girl."
Regina didn't know what Douglas and the man said, but the man from Frannice didn't bother her again. After the dinner, Regina prepared to go home.
She didn't take the company's business car. She planned to walk a short distance and then take the subway home. However, she hadn't gone far when a low-profile black Bentley pulled up beside her.
The window rolled down halfway. From Regina's side, she could see a well-dressed figure leaning against the back of the seat.
Regina recognized the person and silently opened the back door. She didn't know what to say for a moment. She remembered the scene of the man from Frannice approaching Douglas, and she was worried that he might have said something unfavorable to her.
Regina sought to preempt any misconceptions, offering a careful explanation, "My apologies, Mr. Semona. Fatigue has taken its toll tonight, and I simply couldn't muster the energy to serve as that gentleman's guide. While I recognize that my role at Century Group calls for a broader scope of responsibilities, tonight was an exception..."
"Regina." Douglas chuckled at her, feeling a bit helpless. He looked at her deeply, his voice somewhat serious.
Suddenly, a sense of unease surged in Regina's heart.
After a while, she heard Douglas continue, "You are my girl first, everything else is secondary. Do you understand what I mean?"
