Chapter 110 I Want to Make Love, But You Might Not
Regina's heart rate quickened from his kiss. Douglas reluctantly pulled away from her lips, first nibbling on her earlobe, then letting his lips glide faintly over her slender, graceful neck.
He wanted to kiss her deeply, but remembering that she had to go to work later, he thought it wouldn't be good for her if someone saw the hickeys. So, he gave her a peck, leaving no mark.
The spacious office was clean and bright, with a faint, pleasant woody fragrance.
In such a setting, the disarray of the two on the sofa seemed somewhat out of place.
Douglas's white shirt had even lost a button in the heat of Regina's passion!
Regina felt an inexplicable sense of guilt. After their intimate moment, her face flushed.
Everyone knew that Douglas had an excellent reputation in the company, especially for his well-known stance of not getting involved with women, which was a heated topic of private discussions.
People said that a man like Douglas, born to stand at the pinnacle of the social ladder, could resist the temptations of the material world, which was truly commendable.
Some bluntly said that a man like Douglas could have any woman he wanted.
Yet, he remained aloof and distant; anyone who touched him would taint him.
At this moment, Regina felt like she had tainted him.
"Can we not do this in the office anymore?" Regina said softly, but Douglas heard her clearly.
He looked a bit innocent. "We didn't even have sex. It's just a kiss, and that's not okay?"
They hadn't seen each other for almost a week.
Seeing the desire in Douglas's eyes, Regina couldn't say anything more.
Douglas felt like he could never get enough of her kiss.
But in the end, he didn't push further and instead helped her straighten her clothes.
In early spring, the weather in Oriant City was bright and mild.
Regina wore a white silk blouse with a black fishtail skirt, looking intellectual and elegant.
Douglas's fingers landed on the ribbon of her blouse, and with a few casual movements of his long, slender fingers, he tied it into a bow.
Regina's eyes were fixated on Chandler, tracking his every movement.
Douglas, noticing her gaze, smiled. "Regina, do you like my hands?"
Recalling one of their intimate moments, Regina felt very shy.
"Your hands are very beautiful." She casually brushed it off and quickly got up from him.
She knew that Douglas's excuse about the Garmeny project having issues and calling her up was just an excuse. Now that he had seen her and kissed her, she thought it was time to leave.
"I still have work to do and got to go."
Douglas glanced at the clock; it was only one o'clock, right in the middle of the lunch break.
"I'm not a heartless capitalist; you should rest when it's time to rest."
Regina switched her demeanor effortlessly. "Working hard for the company is my responsibility."
Her serious tone carried a hint of playful cuteness that Douglas found endearing.
He loved it when Regina was playful in front of him.
"Then today, can I ask you for a favor?" Douglas asked.
"What?"
"Leave work early and come home with me."
Regina agreed.
Today, Regina left work right on time, which surprised her colleagues with her swift departure.
As soon as she got into Douglas's car, he handed her her favorite cheesecake.
Douglas really enjoyed the feeling of them going home together after work.
He drove while she sat in the passenger seat, eating her favorite food and chatting.
Even though they said nothing, he felt content.
Douglas's attention were focused on the slightly congested traffic ahead, but his peripheral vision was on Regina beside him.
Today, Regina seemed distracted.
She clutched her phone tightly, her beautiful eyes looking vacant, and she hadn't touched her favorite cheesecake.
'Could it be that my early return without telling her had startled her?'
When the car stopped at a red light, Douglas reached over and touched her head.
Noticing this, Regina stiffly turned her gaze to Douglas and asked, "What's wrong?"
"What are you thinking about?"
"Nothing. I'm just a bit tired and drained."
Outside the window, the city's fleeting lights cast shadows inside the car, intertwining and falling on their faces.
At that moment, Douglas could see through her eyes that she was hiding something.
As for what it was, Douglas had some guesses.
After all, a big news event had recently happened in Oriant City, and the man mentioned in the news was taboo in her heart.
As Douglas realized this, his grip on the steering wheel tightened unconsciously.
They drove home in silence.
Not seeing her for so long was something that excited Douglas. But seeing Regina so distracted, he didn't want to force her.
Douglas came out of the bathroom after his shower and saw Regina still sitting on the sofa, looking down at her phone.
Douglas walked closer, but she didn't notice.
When he glanced down, he saw what was on her phone screen.
She was reading news—news about Philip.
"Regina," He called out to her.
Regina, startled like a frightened bird, quickly looked up, nearly dropping her phone.
She hurriedly locked her phone and put it in her pocket.
"What is it?"
"Shouldn't you go take a shower?"
"Oh, okay." Regina got up and hurried past him, looking guilty.
Douglas stood there for a while, his expression unreadable, his eyes deep and inscrutable.
After a while, Regina came out of the shower.
She saw Douglas still sitting in the living room, clearly waiting for her.
Although Regina was sometimes slow to react to certain things, she felt that she should take the initiative now.
So, she shuffled over to him in her slippers.
Douglas smelled a pleasant fragrance and looked up to see Regina standing in front of him.
He didn't say anything and just looked at her.
Unable to read his thoughts, Regina cautiously asked, "Do you want to make love tonight?"
Douglas had been abroad for almost a week, and logically, his desire should have built up to the point of needing release.
Especially today in the office, Regina could clearly feel that just one kiss had nearly made him lose control.
But now, even with her standing in front of him, he didn't seem to want to do anything.
A dull ache echoed in Regina's chest.
Douglas wrapped his strong arms around her waist, lifting her to sit on his lap. "I want to make love to you, but you might not be in the mood. I don't like it when you're thinking about another man while we're together."
'Another man?' Regina's heart skipped a beat, her back stiffened, and a cold shiver ran from head to toe.
She wanted to explain.
But the truth was, she had been thinking about Philip, and trying to explain would just sound like an excuse.
Moreover, Douglas's sharp eyes could always see through her lies; she couldn't fool him even if she could fool herself.
"I was thinking about something related to him, but not in the way you think."
Philip's father had suddenly passed away, and there were rumors online that the Heyday Group was in turmoil, with a power struggle imminent. Philip was always at a disadvantage in this battle.
Regina was anxiously reading the news, and Douglas might have misunderstood that she was worried about Philip's situation.
Regina didn't know how to express her feelings to him at that moment.
So, she chose the clumsiest method.
She raised her hand to hook around his neck, trying to kiss him.
However, Douglas slightly turned his head, avoiding the kiss, and Regina's soft lips landed on his cheek.
The silence made the atmosphere awkward.
Just as Regina was feeling very uneasy, Douglas suddenly picked her up and walked into the bathroom.
She had been so distracted that she hadn't even dried her hair tonight.
Standing in front of the bathroom mirror, Regina saw him take out a hairdryer and patiently, gently dry her long hair.
He didn't say a word.
This made her feel uneasy.
Regina thought he might be angry.
She wanted to comfort him.
However, Douglas's attitude made her feel that no matter what she did, it wouldn't help, leaving Regina with a sense of helplessness.
After drying her hair, he carried her to the bedroom to sleep.
He just held Regina without any other thoughts.
The next day, Regina got up early.
Betty was already preparing breakfast.
Regina decided to help out.
Betty panicked. "No need, Mrs. Semona. I can handle this myself."
Regina lowered her eyes, her voice subdued. "It's nothing. I couldn't sleep. I just wanted to do something. Can you teach me to make a couple of dishes Douglas likes?"
"Of course."
So, Regina focused her attention and busied herself with Betty.
When Douglas got up and found Regina, he saw her wearing an apron, carrying a plate to the dining room.
"Good morning," she greeted.
"Morning."
He responded to her every word.
Regina thought to herself, 'Why is he still so polite and gentle even if he's angry?'
They sat across from each other at the dining table, quietly eating breakfast.
After breakfast, they went to work together.
They looked the same as usual, but in reality, things were very different.
Regina felt a bit panicked.
At this moment, she didn't understand the emotions in Douglas's heart.
Actually, he wasn't angry.
