Chapter 203 Just Hope You Can Live Healthily And Happily

Regina's voice was so soft, it felt like it could just float away with the breeze. But Douglas caught every single word.

He locked eyes with Regina, not budging an inch, his stare intense and full of questions.

Honestly, Douglas was kinda baffled by what Regina was thinking right now. "Mrs. Semona, what's your game here?"

"I just..." Regina knew how out-of-the-blue and bold her words sounded, totally not her usual style. Even though she tried to stay cool, she couldn't help but feel a bit jittery. "I just... wanna spice up our marriage a bit."

No way was Regina gonna tell him she just wanted to document everything about their relationship.

She was scared that one day she'd forget his name, forget all the sweet and beautiful moments they had, and even those wild and crazy times.

"Spice it up?" Douglas mulled over Regina's words, looking deep in thought, and the tension in his face started to ease up.

Maybe it was because Regina had been pretty game for some little fun activities with him lately, so when she used this excuse, he bought it. "But not right now."

It was the last three months of her pregnancy, and Douglas wasn't about to take any chances.

The next day, everyone was in high spirits. Regina wanted to fit in, but she often found herself struggling.

Since her last hospital check-up, she felt like her condition had taken a nosedive. Headaches and ringing in her ears were now a regular thing, and it felt like her once sharp memory was slowly slipping away.

At this crucial moment, what made things even more annoying was a call from Sandra, someone she hadn't talked to in ages.

Over the years, Regina had changed her number and blocked Sandra's contact info. They'd had countless fights and fallouts, each time swearing never to talk again. But sometimes, fate was like a tangled mess one just couldn't sort out.

She stared at the number on the screen, gripping her phone tight. For some reason, her heart felt heavy.

Just as the call was about to end, Regina picked up. She put the phone to her ear without saying a word.

Sandra's voice was shaking like crazy, her tearful tone almost piercing Regina's ears, "Regina, Mom... Mom's dead! Do you know that?"

Along with her voice, the sound of laughter and joy from nearby reached Regina's ears. This extreme contrast made her feel like she was in two different worlds.

Her mind was spinning. She slowly lowered her lashes, staring at the ground, not saying a word.

Her silence made Sandra cry even harder. She sobbed and rambled on, "Regina, are you happy now? I don't have a mom anymore! "

Regina held back the flood of emotions inside her and suddenly let out a sneer, calmly asking, "You don't have one, do you think I do?"

"It's not the same!"

To Sandra, Melissa was her mom and hers alone.

All these years, Melissa had given her all the motherly love she needed, and under Melissa's wing, she'd grown up carefree. Melissa didn't matter at all.

"So, what's the point of this call?" Regina couldn't get it. "Are you here to brag or to announce her death?"

"Regina, you're so heartless," Sandra yelled, "Yeah, Mom was good to me, but didn't she give you half her assets later? That's half! Do you even get what that means? Mom said she'd give it all to me! In the end, she still felt guilty and showed you mercy.

But you took so much from her and then vanished, didn't even pretend to look for her. Now she's dead, and if I hadn't told you, would you have known? Look at what you've been up to lately!"

Sandra had seen the news. She knew Leo had thrown a party for Regina, making her relationship with Douglas public. And she knew Regina was pregnant, practically being treated like royalty by the Semona Family.

Sandra was jealous that Regina was living the dream.

Regina couldn't be bothered to respond to Sandra's rant and hung up the phone. She took a deep breath and stood in a corner, trying to calm herself down.

But she couldn't chill out. The pounding in her head and the weakness in her body were too much, so she quietly slipped back to her room.

Leo noticed something was off and quickly asked Douglas, "Is Regina feeling unwell? Or is she in a bad mood?"

"I'll go check." Douglas had also noticed Regina's odd behavior and immediately followed her.

He walked into the room and saw Regina standing by the window, lost in thought.

Regina heard footsteps and her back stiffened slightly. She didn't expect him to come so quickly.

"Who called you just now?"It was obvious Douglas noticed her mood tanked after that call.

Regina didn't plan to hide it, "It was Sandra."

Just hearing that name, Douglas knew what it was about.

For the past few months, Melissa's whereabouts had actually been under Douglas's watch.

He thought for a moment and finally decided to come clean. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you right away. Melissa's ashes were brought back from abroad yesterday. I found a burial plot for her in Oriant City. This is her final resting place. You don't have to be too sad. At least in the last few months before she passed, she was pretty happy."

Regina gently hugged him, burying her head in his warm chest, and softly said, "Thank you."

He said in a low voice, "Why be so polite with me? I just hope you can live healthily and happily, without worries or troubles. As long as that's the case, everything is worth it."

Regina repeated these words over and over in her mind. The more she thought about it, the more she felt heartache.

Douglas had always had it easy. He was born a golden child, always in the spotlight. But because of her, he had been humble.

Everyone might have a wish deep in their heart.

He said he hoped she could live healthily and peacefully, without worries or troubles. She also hoped he could stand in his own glory, always shining brightly.

"People are meant to live and die. We all have to face it," Regina said, trying to make him understand, "Besides, as we get older, our bodies will deteriorate, so we can't be healthy forever..."

Douglas gently but firmly interrupted her, "In this life, whether in poverty or wealth, in good times or bad, in sickness or health, I vow to be with you, never to part."
