Chapter 41 Memory Impairment
After breakfast, Regina quickly went to work.
At lunchtime, Miranda came to find her and they went to the company cafeteria to eat together. As the 20th was approaching, they were discussing their trip to Norman University.
"Regina, have you booked your flight?"
"Yes."
"That's good."
They discussed booking the hotel and any other necessary arrangements in advance, then looked forward to the day's arrival.
The event was scheduled to take place at 9:30 in the morning on the 20th at the Norman University gymnasium. She and Miranda booked flights departing on the 19th. Even though Douglas already knew about her itinerary beforehand, Regina still told him everything in detail. First, she sent him detailed information about the flight and then told him the location of the hotel. When Douglas received her message, he was out of town on an inspection visit for a project. This was a key project, and local government officials were also involved. After the site visit, there were meetings and a dinner in the evening. By the time Douglas finished his work, it was already past nine in the evening.
"Mr. Semona, your hotel is ready. Shall we go?"
"To Norman," Douglas replied.
Jason paused for a moment. He was familiar with Douglas's schedule and knew there was no plan to go to Norman that day.
"It's a personal matter," Douglas calmly and firmly stated. Jason glanced at Douglas, who was resting with his eyes closed, a bit tired. He didn't ask further and drove straight to the airport.
Regina and Miranda arrived in Norman at 6 p.m. It took them another hour to reach the hotel. The hotel was near Norman University. It had been a while since they graduated, and returning brought back a flood of memories like scenes from a movie. Miranda was excited. After dropping off their luggage, she invited Regina to stroll around.
Regina, still full of energy, agreed.
They first visited the bustling commercial street of Norman University. It was full of delicious food. Since they hadn't had dinner, they decided to eat there. They found a restaurant known for its Norman specialties. The food was great, and they enjoyed a satisfying meal. After dinner, they strolled around the campus. The university was so big that they couldn't tour the entire campus in just one day.
Miranda couldn't help but feel sentimental, saying, "That will be great. If only we could turn back time. I think our university days were the happiest."
Listening to Miranda, Regina also began to reminisce about her time at university seriously. Some images were very clear, while others had become blurry.
In her junior year, Regina had a near-death experience when she nearly drowned. Due to being underwater for an extended period, Regina suffered from oxygen deprivation in her brain. Even now, she still experienced occasional headaches, ringing in her ears, and other lingering symptoms. At times, she was in pain and required medication for relief.
During her hospital stay, Regina noticed some issues with her memory. While some memories were clear to her, others seemed to be forgotten. However, Regina didn't force herself to dwell on those forgotten memories.
Over the many years that had passed, she had a clear understanding of what had filled her life. Not dwelling on certain things and forgetting about them isn't entirely bad.
While Miranda was excited, she noticed Regina looking down at her phone. Regina was fixed on a chat interface.
"Regina, who are you waiting for?"
Miranda glanced at Regina's phone screen but didn't see anything specific. Regina exited the chat interface. "Come on, spill it." Miranda's eyes sparkled. "Waiting for your boyfriend to reply, huh?"
Regina remained silent.
Was she clearly waiting for a message?
Regina glanced at the time; it was already 10 p.m. She had sent several messages to Douglas, but he had yet to reply. Douglas rarely ignored her messages. However, since the incident in the bathroom, things had become a bit awkward. But it might be just Regina's perception. Douglas didn't seem to care much about it, so it shouldn't be the reason he didn't reply. He may be too busy. To sum up, Regina's conflicted emotions and anticipation were evident.
"Regina, when did you get a boyfriend? What does he do? Do you have a photo? I want to see what kind of man the beautiful Regina likes," Miranda asked excitedly.
Regina felt a bit guilty. She remembered the prenuptial agreement she signed with Douglas, which included not publicly disclosing their relationship for six months. She didn't want to disappoint Miranda, but she could only explain, "We're still in the getting-to-know-each-other stage. I'll tell you when our relationship is more stable, okay?"
"Of course," Miranda readily agreed. She was indeed curious but also respected Regina. They spent three hours exploring the campus and returned to the hotel after midnight. Regina came out of the shower, picked up her phone from the bedside table, and found that he still hadn't replied. She hesitated for a moment, then made another call, but there was still no response. Regina held the phone tightly, feeling a bit disappointed.
The next morning, when they were about to go to the club event, Miranda noticed that Regina was not in a good mood. She had a slight frown, her eyes were unfocused, and she seemed a bit absent-minded.
She called Douglas again in the morning, but he still hadn't answered. "Miranda, when does this event end?"
"It should be around noon. What's wrong, Regina?"
"Oh, nothing." In fact, Regina was already thinking of going home. The long-anticipated club activity seemed less exciting to Regina at this moment as if she were burdened by something else in her heart. They arrived at the event site at nine o'clock.
The sports center, which could accommodate thousands of people, was already full. In addition to the students, many fans came to the event. It was full of fans who came to support Douglas.
"A voice actor who has never shown his face has been behind the scenes for years and hasn't released any work for two years actually has so many fans!" Miranda couldn't help but feel touched. After a moment of thought, she added, "You're amazing, actually, Regina, but unfortunately, no one knows you're here."
Regina was attending the event as a former club member. Except for Miranda, no one else knew that Regina, using the nickname 'Gina,' had recorded a lot of radio dramas that had garnered considerable views and were hugely popular. Everyone was unaware that Regina was actually the popular voice actor, Gina.
After signing in, they took their seats in the guest area.
The event officially began at 9:30.
