Chapter 165 Settling Old and New Scores One by One
After leaving the church, Douglas took Elizabeth and Regina back to Semona Estate.
Everyone came back this weekend.
Perhaps it was because of Regina's pregnancy that the smiles on everyone's faces never seemed to fade.
Regina felt like a little rabbit surrounded by waves of wolves.
First, she received the care of elders like Leo, Herman, and Elizabeth. Then, she was pulled away by several of Douglas' cousins' wives.
They shared their experiences of childbirth and parenting with Regina, and even Nicole joined in, speaking as if she had it all figured out.
Nancy, with her short legs, insisted on squeezing in.
"Alright, Nancy." Douglas scooped her up from the ground and held her in his arms. "Regina has a baby in her belly now. You don't expect her to sleep with you tonight, do you?"
"Why not?"
"Pregnant women need special care. You're too young to take care of her properly."
"I understand." This time, Nancy obediently let go.
At dinner, Regina didn't eat much. The cousins' wives had just told her that during pregnancy, she could eat small, frequent meals.
Leo was worried that she might get hungry in the middle of the night, instructing the servants to prepare a midnight snack for Regina so she could eat whenever she felt hungry.
As soon as Regina arrived at Semona Estate, she felt like a pearl, cherished and carefully protected by everyone.
Sometimes, she would often ask herself, 'Did I deserve all this?'
But Douglas always demonstrated through his actions that she was the most deserving person in the world.
Regina had no significant reactions in the early stages of her pregnancy—no nausea, no vomiting, no excessive sleepiness, and no loss of appetite.
She continued her work, went to the office, and rested as usual.
The projects she was working on were smoothly completed, and she took on several new tasks.
She was relaxed, but she made Douglas worry every day.
On a summer night, under a sky full of stars, moonlight streamed through the uncurtained floor-to-ceiling windows. Lying in bed, Regina had a bit of insomnia.
Douglas lay quietly beside her. It was unclear who initiated it, but their lips met.
Desire came fiercely, and they quickly became entangled in a kiss.
It wasn't until Regina felt Douglas' erection pressing against her that they hastily and awkwardly ended the kiss.
During Melissa's disappearance, Sandra caused quite a stir. She tried to make a big deal out of it to disturb Regina, but Douglas suppressed it each time, causing no ripples.
Half a month after Melissa's disappearance, Regina took the initiative to call Sandra and arranged to meet her at a coffee shop.
"Where did you hide Mom?" Sandra burst into the private room, her eyes red, and screamed at Regina with a twisted, contorted face.
Jason stepped forward with a cold expression, blocking Sandra's outburst like a wall of steel.
Seeing the muscular man with a buzz cut and tattoos on his arms, Sandra felt a sudden fear, and her sharp, piercing voice involuntarily softened. "Tell me, where is Mom? How could she just disappear without a trace?"
Upon Melissa's departure, she composed a letter for Regina, yet provided no written communication for Sandra.
Even the assets Melissa had promised to give her were only half of what Sandra found in the account.
Sandra didn't need to investigate to know where the other half went.
"When Mom was seriously ill, it was nearly impossible for her to see you. How could you accept her assets so easily? Besides, you're married with a good man. Do you still care about those mere hundreds of millions of dollars? Give me back Mom, give me back her things!"
Regina calmly watched Sandra's hysterical outburst. "Are you here to ask for money or her whereabouts?"
Sandra shamelessly replied, "Both are mine. I want both."
"I don't know where she is, and there's no money for you."
Sandra was incredulous that the ordinarily unassuming Regina would audaciously utter such a statement!
"All these years, you've acted like you wanted to cut ties with Mom. No matter how much she lowered herself to be with you, you ignored her. Now you covet her assets?" Sandra was furious. "Do you care about that little money? Didn't you marry a rich man? Or can't you get a penny from him?"
Regina remained indifferent. "You're right. I don't care about those hundreds of millions of dollars."
Sandra felt very uncomfortable.
In the past, if Regina said she didn't care, Sandra would think she was stubborn.
But now, she was married to Douglas.
With hundreds of millions of dollars in assets, she indeed had the right to be dismissive.
Sandra quickly seized the opportunity. "Since you don't care, give me what rightfully belongs to me."
Regina bluntly slammed a document in front of Sandra, knowing that Sandra had been pressing for the money.
The paper fluttered to the ground, and Sandra hurriedly bent down to pick it up.
It was a donation letter.
It showed that Regina had donated millions of dollars in assets to the 'National Animal Welfare Association' in Melissa's name!
"You..." Sandra's hands trembled with anger as she held the paper. "Are you fucking crazy? What do you mean by this?"
"Exactly what you see."
She would rather donate the money to stray cats and dogs than give it to Sandra.
Regina looked at Sandra's loss of control and calmly said, "I asked you out today to make it clear that this is what she gave me. How I handle it is my business. You won't get a single penny."
Sandra completely lost her mind. She wanted to hit Regina, but as soon as she raised her hand, Jason grabbed it.
A cracking sound was heard, like bones breaking.
Sandra screamed in pain, tears streaming down her face, but the hatred in her eyes for Regina grew even stronger.
"Regina, you!"
"What?"
Regina's cold indifference made Sandra even more furious.
"This money shouldn't be divided like this!"
"Really?" Regina stood up unhurriedly and walked step by step to Sandra, her face devoid of any emotion. "Sandra, since you like to calculate so much, from now on, we'll settle our new and old accounts one by one."
