Chapter 83 Easy to Get Pregnant
With Regina's consent, Douglas led her back to his room.
As soon as they entered the bedroom and Douglas shut the door, Regina felt an immediate wave of relaxation. The anxiety and tension from meeting his family, combined with the late hour and her exhaustion, had kept her body on edge.
But surprisingly, being alone with Douglas made her feel at ease.
Douglas asked a servant to bring clean clothes, and Regina went to shower.
After she emerged, she felt a dull ache in her lower abdomen. She might have caught a chill from spending too much time outside in the snow earlier.
She was too embarrassed to tell Douglas.
She had just recovered from a cold and had played in the snow with the kids for a long time. Douglas had called her inside twice, but she didn't go in right away. She thought he'd be upset if he knew she was uncomfortable.
Lost in thought, she heard a knock on the bathroom door.
"Are you done?"
Douglas had heard the water stop a while ago, but Regina hadn't come out.
She quickly opened the door, avoiding his gaze. "I'm done."
"Go have something to drink."
Regina looked troubled. "I ate a lot at dinner; I can't eat anything now."
During dinner, everyone was so enthusiastic that her plate was never empty.
"It's drink to ward off the cold. Drinking some now might help you sleep better tonight."
Despite Regina's careful attempts to hide her discomfort, Douglas saw right through her.
He was like a mirror reflecting her every feeling.
Regina picked up the drink from the table and sipped it slowly. The warmth spread through her, comforting both her heart and her stomach.
After finishing, she curled up under the blankets and quickly fell asleep.
In a daze, she felt warmth beside her.
Douglas had finished his shower and lay down next to her.
"Does it still hurt?"
Regina heard his gentle voice and honestly replied, "Yes."
"Do you want me to rub it for you?"
Before Regina fully realized what was happening, she felt Douglas' large hand resting on her lower abdomen, gently rubbing through the thin fabric of her sleepwear.
His hand was big and warm, and her cold abdomen felt like it was on fire, making her feel much better.
The room was silent except for the soft, steady rhythm of their breathing, intertwined in the stillness.
The pain in her lower abdomen gradually disappeared, and Regina unknowingly closed her eyes.
When she woke up, it was already ten in the morning. She looked around and found that Douglas was not in the room.
She felt a bit panicked.
With Douglas not around, her anxiety grew.
She got out of bed, changed her clothes, and looked around for Douglas but couldn't find him. She had no choice but to call him.
Fortunately, the phone was answered after just one ring.
"You're awake?" Before she could speak, she heard him ask.
Regina responded, "Just woke up."
"Go downstairs and have breakfast. I'll be back soon."
"Where are you?"
"I'm with Grandpa."
"Okay."
Regina didn't say more, afraid of disturbing them, and quickly hung up the phone.
Leo and Douglas were chatting while playing chess.
Leo had retired from active management of the family business, leaving the younger generation to handle it. For the Semona family, Douglas' management of the Century Group had become a critical pillar of their business empire.
Douglas planned to update Leo on company matters, but Leo waved him off. "I trust you. I've managed it all my life, and now that I'm retired, you don't need to report to me."
So, Leo pulled Douglas into a chess game.
Leo wasn't interested in company stuff but talked endlessly about Regina.
"How was last night?"
Douglas asked, "How was what?"
"How did Regina adapt here?"
"She did okay."
"Your room is a good place.
"It's easy to get pregnant there. I think you two should stay there for a while."
Leo said this with a serious face.
Douglas moved a chess piece and calmly said, "We don't plan on having kids yet."
Although Regina had once asked him if he wanted to have a child with her, it was a spur-of-the-moment question when her grandmother was critically ill. Now, they needed to consider it carefully.
Leo knew this wasn't something to rush. "You need to put some effort into this. Regina seems like a slow burner. You've been married for over two months, where are you at?"
Leo was aware of their flash marriage, which meant they didn't have a strong emotional foundation. Nicole had mentioned that Regina was someone Douglas had liked for a long time, but Leo figured it was mostly one-sided.
Douglas remained silent.
"I'm asking you a question," Leo pressed, furrowing his brows. "Where are you two at?"
'Where indeed?' Douglas wondered to himself.
In the two months of their marriage, their kisses could be counted on one hand, and as for intimacy, it always seemed to be just out of reach. Their relationship had progressed from being polite and respectful to her occasionally crossing that line and coming closer to him.
Thinking of this, Douglas said unhurriedly, "We're still far from giving you great-grandchildren."
Douglas returned from Leo's place around noon.
Seeing him, Regina felt relieved.
Just now, waves of the Semona family members had come, making it lively, but without him by her side, Regina felt a bit restrained.
"We'll go back after dinner tonight."
Regina was taken aback. "Why?"
"There are too many people here; it's too noisy."
Regina didn't mind, but Douglas didn't like the noise.
During this rare holiday, he preferred to spend time alone with her.
So, after dinner, Douglas said goodbye to the family and prepared to leave the estate with Regina.
"Alright, since we're all in Oriant City, after the first meeting, there will be a second and third. You should bring Regina back more often," Leo said to Douglas.
Elizabeth stepped forward and held Regina's hand. At first glance, she liked Regina very much. "Regina, are you free this weekend? Come with me to the theater; I have two tickets."
Regina quickly agreed, "I'm free, Mom."
"Good."
Everyone said their goodbyes, their faces showing reluctance.
Douglas' marriage made everyone very happy.
Sitting in the car, Regina looked at the group of people in the rearview mirror, feeling like she was in a dream.
