Chapter 125 Office Romance
Charles' words made Douglas furrow his brow slightly. "What did you hear?" Douglas asked.
"Nicole said you're preparing for a wedding!" Charles got more excited as he spoke. "She said you even had met with several wedding dress designers recently."
"Big mouth," Douglas said in displeasure.
Charles fell silent.
Charles wasn't sure if Douglas was talking about him or Nicole, but he swore, "Don't worry. We'll definitely keep your surprise for Regina a secret."
Speaking of Regina, Charles couldn't help but marvel inwardly. 'Her charm is truly immense.'
Douglas had quietly liked her for so many years, and it had taken him so much effort. Fortunately, his long-term planning finally paid off!
"I just didn't expect it to be so bizarre. The mysterious woman you've been hiding in your heart turned out to be someone I often saw. Back then, Michael, Josh, and I have guessed every woman we knew. No one expected that it would be the woman around Philip."
Of course, there were some clues.
For instance, on Regina's birthday last year, Douglas lost his temper at the Peace Club and almost tore the place apart.
Douglas got drunk that day, and Charles thought he was just being a drunk.
But Charles had known Douglas since they were kids and had never seen him so out of control.
It seemed Douglas was upset because of Regina.
Douglas glanced over, listening to Charles talk, and raised an eyebrow. "Are you free lately?"
Charles deliberately followed his lead. "Yeah. Do you want to get me some projects from Philip?"
Charles naturally knew how turbulent the Sterling family was right now.
If they did something behind the scenes at this time...
As he thought about it, he observed Douglas's expression, but Douglas's face seemed emotionless.
"Douglas?"
"It's not the right time yet." Douglas threw a thick stack of documents on the desk. Hearing Philip's name, he finally spoke seriously to Charles.
Charles was puzzled. "Then when is it?"
Douglas didn't answer directly but asked, "Do you think it's more painful to never have something you've always wanted or to have it and then lose it immediately?"
Charles seriously thought about it. "The latter."
Indeed, it was painful if people spent a lot of time and effort on something, and just when they were about to enjoy the success, they fell from heaven to hell.
Charles suddenly understood what Douglas meant.
Douglas said it wasn't the right time because Philip hadn't gotten what he wanted yet?
Douglas finished working overtime until nine in the evening. He didn't expect Regina to come looking for him tonight.
She did have some business, but using it as an excuse to see him was also true.
Regina gently placed a document on his desk.
Douglas looked up at the person standing across the desk, frowning slightly. "Were you sent to deliver documents again?"
"No, no," Regina quickly said. "I volunteered for this."
She looked at Douglas's open laptop and the thick stack of documents on the desk, asking, "Are you going to be busy for a long time tonight?"
"Yeah." He pinched his brow, a rare trace of fatigue in his eyes. "Maybe a few more hours. I'll have Jason take you home first."
"No need. I drove myself."
After Regina spoke, she should have left, but after taking two steps, she turned back.
Facing Douglas's slightly puzzled look, Regina mustered the courage to say, "I don't want to go back yet. Can I stay here with you?"
'Stay with me?'
Douglas smiled. "I'd love that, Mrs. Semona."
Regina thought, 'No one noticed me when I came in, and now that everyone had left, I could stay here without being discovered.'
Douglas's office was large and well-equipped. Regina thought it would be late by the time she got home, so she might as well take a shower here and rest early when she got back. After all, she had her clothes here.
In the past, Regina would have avoided suspicion at all costs.
But now, all the distance between them had disappeared.
When Regina came out of the shower, she smelled a sweet, milky aroma in the office.
Her favorite cake was on Douglas's desk. Next to it was a low-calorie, low-fat, low-salt meal.
"The cake is low-sugar too, so you can eat it without worry."
Douglas knew she had been controlling her diet for her figure, so he thoughtfully ordered these for her.
Regina thanked him and took the food to the break room to eat, but Douglas thought it would be boring for her to be alone. So he asked, "Why don't you eat here?"
"I'm afraid I will disturb you."
"No."
So, Regina took the food and sat on the sofa in the guest area opposite the desk, placing the food on the table.
Regina ate slowly, but her eyes seemed uncontrollably drawn to Douglas most of the time.
Douglas naturally noticed the oddity.
He stopped typing, looked up from the screen, and caught her gaze. He teased, "Mrs. Semona, am I more delicious than the food?"
Hearing this, Regina awkwardly looked away and put a boiled shrimp in her mouth, chewing slowly.
For some reason, the food tasted bland in her mouth.
Seeing her distraction, Douglas completely stopped what he was doing, saying softly, "Regina, come over here and eat."
Regina hesitated for a few seconds, only to find he had already closed his laptop and cleared the desk.
Regina hesitated as she walked over with the food. As she bent down to place the items, Douglas pulled her onto his lap.
The atmosphere became very intimate.
Regina tried to find a topic. "Are you hungry too?"
"Yeah, I'm hungry."
Regina didn't catch the underlying meaning in Douglas's words. She only heard he was hungry and quickly wanted to feed him, but the food in the box was almost gone, leaving only the cake.
Regina knew he didn't like sweets, so she put the cake back in her mouth. "I have nothing to do now. I'll go to a nearby restaurant and get you some food. I know a good place nearby that you'll like."
Douglas's gaze was fixed on her soft red lips.
A piece of cake crumb was on the corner of her mouth, unnoticed.
He raised a finger to wipe it away, his voice husky. "Mrs. Semona, do you really not know what I want to eat right now?"
Regina slowly calmed down.
She wasn't entirely clueless.
After all, just sitting on his lap, she could feel the heat through Douglas's suit pants.
She said seriously, "We can have sex when we get home tonight."
Her period was over.
Douglas had indeed been abstinent for a while.
Douglas's breathing tightened, his hand on her waist gently kneading.
He kissed her lips, coaxing, "Mrs. Semona, do you think I can wait until we get home?"
