Chapter 44 So Sweet
Regina was dazed. She stood there in the wind until Miranda pulled her into a taxi.
"Regina, what's up with you today? You look like you're in another world," Miranda asked with concern.
Regina took a deep breath and replied, "I'm fine; I probably just didn't get enough rest last night."
"I see. Then why are we still here? It would help if you went back to the hotel and rest. Your flight is at 7 p.m., so you have time for a nap," Miranda suggested.
"Alright."
Their hotel was near Norman University, and Regina arrived in less than ten minutes. She clutched the room key; her legs felt like lead. She hesitated for a while, before she finally opened the door.
She walked into the room and sat on the bed. She alternated between staring at the text message he had sent her about ten minutes ago and glancing uncontrollably at the door. In her uneasy wait, she finally heard a knock at the door. Regina, in her comfortable slippers, quickly shuffled to the door and opened it.
Douglas was standing outside.
Regina's heart seemed to skip a beat. She stared at the stunning man in front of her. He was wearing a white shirt and black pants, with a designer suit jacket. It wasn't the black coat. In the last few seconds of the event, Regina finally caught a glimpse of Douglas. She remembered him wearing a black coat. She lowered her head while fluttering her eyelashes.
Douglas looked at her thoughtfully. "What's wrong, Mrs. Semona? Disappointed to see me?"
"No, not at all." Regina quickly raised her head. "Why are you here at Norman?"
"I'm here on a business trip. I just passed by here."
"For real?" Regina cautiously asked, "Have you been anywhere else?" For some reason, looking at her now, Douglas felt like she was a cute little rabbit, making him want to tease her.
He spoke lazily, "Do you have any idea where I went?"
"Not really." Having said all that, it was clear from his expression that he didn't understand a word she was saying. Regina finally mustered the courage to say, "I attended the 10th anniversary of the Norman University Dubbing Club this morning. I saw Dougal. I thought he looked a lot like you. I guess I was overthinking." Regina couldn't help but share everything that happened today with him.
"So, Dougal became a voice actor because of his wife. His wife is also a voice actor. Their story is so sweet."
"Is it?" Douglas's casual tone seemed to be asking her, but not quite.
Regina nodded confidently. "Yes, it is. And I was also very lucky today. I thought I wouldn't be able to get his autograph, but I ended up being that lucky one." Seeing her so excited, he stood quietly on the side, listening. Regina shared every detail of her meeting with Dougal. After about ten minutes, she realized something was wrong. She had been keeping Douglas outside the whole time.
She stepped aside. "Why don't we continue inside?"
Douglas didn't hesitate. He walked into the room. The hotel room was small, with only a bed and no other furnishings. Douglas glanced at the bed. Her pajamas were thrown on the light blue sheets, including a white lace bra, which stood out.
Regina felt a bit embarrassed. This morning, she was in a hurry to go to the event with Miranda, so she hadn't had time to tidy up her clothes. She had been absent-minded when she came back, so she forgot about it.
Regina quickly picked up the pajamas and bra and stuffed them into the suitcase. There was a moment of silence in the room, and the atmosphere was a bit awkward.
She instinctively found a topic, "How long are you planning to stay at Norman? I'm taking the flight back to Oriant at around 7 p.m."
"Me too."
"So, we must be on the same flight?"
"I guess so."
"We can go back together."
"Are you happy?"
The question took aback Regina, and then she thought about it seriously before saying, "Of course I am." Douglas thought, 'As long as you're happy.'
"Haven't you had lunch yet?" Regina asked, already starting to order takeout on her phone. It was cold outside and raining, so she didn't want to go out.
"You go ahead. I'm not hungry." After a pause, he asked, "Can I take a nap on your bed?"
Seeing him looking so tired, Regina nodded. "Sure. I'll be quiet and try not to disturb you." So, Douglas took off his suit and casually threw it aside, then he lay down on the bed.
Regina was afraid of disturbing him, so she went to Miranda's room to eat after the takeout arrived.
After dinner, Regina didn't rush back to her room but stayed in Miranda's room watching TV. Miranda didn't find it strange, but she suddenly remembered something. "My phone charger is still in your room, right? I'll go get it."
"Okay, no, wait!" Regina's eyes widened suddenly because she remembered Douglas was still sleeping on her bed. She grabbed Miranda's wrist, trying to stop her. "I'll go take it."
Miranda felt something was off. "Regina, why is your face so red? Is it because the air conditioner in my room is too high?"
Regina hurried to the door. "Maybe?" She quickly returned to her room. She deliberately tiptoed and carefully found the charger that Miranda had left on the bedside table. Her gaze couldn't help but look at Douglas, who was still sleeping. He must be really tired, right? The single bed wasn't very comfortable, but he still slept on it. Regina was not yet aware of what Douglas had done at Norman.
On the way back, in the airport lobby, Miranda saw her boss, Douglas, from a distance. She was shocked and a little uneasy. "Oh my, what should I do?" Miranda whispered to Regina, "Let's pretend we don't know him, okay? After all, the company has so many employees, and he may not remember us. It wouldn't be good if he found out that we took two days off just to see our favorite star."
Douglas had recently taken office. During this time, Miranda had never had any contact with Douglas in the company, not even a word with him. She was sure that Douglas didn't know her.
Regina hesitated and said, "But I've been to see the client before with Mr. Semona." The implication was that it wouldn't be good if they pretended not to know each other.
"Then let's split up."
"What?"
"Let's not stay together. I'll take the heat!"
"No." Regina thought, 'Do you know that your two days off were personally approved by your boss, Mr. Semona?' Before Regina could finish her sentence, Miranda dropped her and moved away.
Douglas also saw Regina. Seeing Douglas's gaze following Regina, Jason felt that he looked extremely unfamiliar.
But what puzzled Jason even more was why his Mr. Semona had rushed over last night and canceled his schedule today to accompany Mrs. Semona, but he didn't let her know that the idol she had been following was actually him?
