Chapter 181 A Satisfying Night
Charles didn't mention the prank call earlier.
"Why are you here tonight?" Charles had organized a gathering at the Peace Club tonight, but he knew Douglas was busy with his wife, so he didn't invite him.
However, Douglas came on his own today.
Douglas sat down on the edge of the sofa. He didn't smoke, drink, play cards, or mess around with women. In this hedonistic setting, he was as pure and clean as the snow on a mountaintop.
Douglas said, "I came to see you because I have something important to discuss."
"What is it?"
Douglas smirked. His tone sounded lazy and casual, but it inexplicably made Charles feel something was off. "Come closer, I'll tell you."
Charles obediently leaned in, fully focused on listening to him.
It turned out to be something related to Philip again.
"What? He's not dead yet?" Charles had been following the news and heard that Edward had stabbed Philip deeply in the chest with a fruit knife!
He thought, 'And Philip is still alive
'God must really favor him.'
"Anyway, keep an eye on what I told you."
"Alright, I got it."
Douglas glanced at his watch. After finishing his business, he didn't linger for a moment and immediately got up to leave.
The next day at work, Lucia stared at Regina's belly and inexplicably made a sarcastic remark, "Wow, it must be tough carrying twins, right? And you're still working so hard to earn money. Your husband is so rich; he should spend more on you instead of just getting you a cake or something. You know, if you don't spend his money, other women will."
Regina remained silent.
She thought, 'What's wrong with her?'
Regina couldn't be bothered to look at Lucia. Her eyes remained fixed on the computer screen.
She had been busy with the assessment lately.
For her, becoming the Executive Assistant was never about getting closer to Douglas. Even if the president weren't Douglas, she would still strive for the opportunity to prove her abilities and get better pay.
Every step she took now was steady and solid.
Seeing that Regina ignored her again, Lucia felt a bit embarrassed and returned to her desk.
Time flew by, and the assessment was just a week away!
Douglas received the assessment list from Jason.
He scanned the long list and naturally saw Regina's name.
He stared at the list for a long time.
To be precise, he stared at Regina's name for a long time.
Jason, observing from the side, couldn't tell what Douglas was thinking. He noticed Douglas frowning slightly, as if he was worried about something.
Jason wanted to ask but didn't dare to directly, so he probed, "Mr. Semona, do you have a preferred candidate?"
Hearing this, Douglas snapped out of his thoughts.
He tossed the list on the table and asked, "What do you think?"
Jason thought, 'His preferred candidate must be Regina.'
But Jason couldn't figure out what Douglas was worried about.
He thought, 'Is he afraid Regina wouldn't stand out in the assessment?
'Under normal circumstances, she would have no problem passing the assessment.
'But now she was pregnant, which is an unstable and unfavorable factor.'
Douglas closed his eyes, leaned back in his chair, and pressed his temples, which were throbbing. "This position involves a lot of work and pressure. Sometimes, she might have to travel with me all over the world. I'm afraid it is too much for her."
But Douglas didn't suggest Regina give up.
Because he knew that every choice she made had its reasons and significance.
On the way home from work, Douglas looked at Regina, who was sitting in the passenger seat, still preparing for the assessment. He chuckled and asked, "Mrs. Semona, are you tired?"
Regina joked, "Yes, can you make it easier for me?"
"How?"
"For example, by leaking some assessment content to me? Or directly appointing me?"
Douglas's smile widened, "Sorry, Mrs. Semona, to maintain fairness and justice, I can't do that."
Regina pretended to be disappointed, biting her lip and looking a bit aggrieved, "Alright then, I won't make it hard for you. I can work hard on my own."
"But I can make you relax in other ways tonight."
"Like?"
"Helping you bathe and massage, how about that?"
Regina was silent.
Although Douglas spoke so elegantly, an explicit image immediately popped into Regina's mind.
Her ears turned red, but she still tried to act tough. "Then I'll reluctantly accept."
After a while, she added, "Especially my chest, it needs a good massage."
Regina had to admit, ever since Douglas discovered her chest pain last time, he had become her masseur, always making her feel very comfortable.
Hearing this, Douglas tapped the steering wheel rhythmically, as if hinting at something. "Got it, I'll make sure you have a satisfying night."
