Chapter 217 Stolen Time
Regina had been waiting forever, but he still didn't say a word.
She tried to keep it together, but her voice shook a little when she asked, "Who is he?"
Right then, she felt just like she did before, with pain and anxiety wrapping around her like a net, squeezing tighter and tighter.
She was stuck in that tiny space, and even breathing got harder.
Philip was about to say something but then noticed something off.
In the rearview mirror, he saw a car speeding up behind them like a bat out of hell.
Philip quickly figured out it was Douglas catching up.
Douglas was seriously fast.
Philip knew Douglas would hit the Peace Club first, so he tried to distract him, but it didn't work.
He just wanted more time alone with Regina.
Since Regina decided to leave him, he hadn't had a night as peaceful and beautiful as this one.
He knew all of this was borrowed time.
He wanted this moment to last just a bit longer.
So, in a flash, Philip floored the gas pedal!
But the car behind wasn't giving up.
Philip picked a route, dodging the busy streets, and headed for the coastal highway.
Late at night, the wide coastal highway was almost empty.
Philip's car was flying. Anyone else would be screaming their head off, but Regina sat there, expressionless.
She seemed clueless about what was happening behind her, lost in her own world.
Since she got sick, she often got stuck in her thoughts and couldn't snap out of it.
She'd think hard about the fuzzy stuff in her mind.
The silver-gray sports car behind them quickly caught up and pulled alongside Philip's black Maybach.
Douglas turned his head and saw who was in the passenger seat.
"Regina," He called her name.
He didn't shout, just a soft murmur, but it seemed to reach her, pulling Regina back from wherever her mind had wandered.
Regina, like a rusty machine, slowly turned to the right.
Douglas had already rolled down his window.
Their eyes met during the high-speed chase, and Regina saw his face clearly.
The numbness and confusion on her face vanished, and her dull eyes lit up.
Her fingers gripped the seatbelt tightly, and her heart started pounding. "Honey."
Hearing Regina's murmur, Philip was insanely jealous.
The car was maxed out.
At that moment, the silver-gray sports car overtook them, drifted sharply, and stopped in front of them with sparks flying.
The car blocked their way!
Philip slammed on the brakes, stopping just inches from the other car.
As soon as the car stopped, Regina instinctively tried to open the door but found it locked.
Regina finally realized how crazy everything she did tonight was.
She glanced at Philip, her calm eyes now showing a hint of panic.
"It's my fault. I shouldn't have bothered you so late. I'm losing it," Regina said, her voice hoarse, her once lifeless demeanor now a storm of emotions. "Let me out!"
Philip had never seen Regina so out of control.
Even when they broke up, she just walked away coldly.
"I haven't answered you yet." Philip's words were for Regina, but his eyes were on the car in front.
He watched Douglas get out, slam the door, and walk towards them.
Douglas was just a few steps away from their car.
He only had time for a few words.
Regina watched Douglas approach while listening to Philip, her mind in a fierce tug-of-war like a high-speed car crash.
Douglas asked, "Don't you want to know who was at the Seasons Hotel that night? It wasn't me that night. Nor was it a rapist. It was Douglas. He saved you that night."
He wanted to tell her not to be afraid; that terrible night wasn't her nightmare.
He wanted to tell her that the Douglas she loved was her salvation.
He didn't want her to be hurt anymore.
Even though these were all facts coming from Philip, they felt different.
Regina looked at Philip in shock.
Philip didn't look at her again.
Tonight's stolen time was already a great luxury.
Philip was ambitious and never easily satisfied, but now, with Regina, he didn't dare to ask for more.
He finally recognized his own feelings.
He loved her.
After failing to possess her, he accepted his fate and admitted defeat.
He didn't want to hurt her anymore.
As Douglas approached, the passenger door opened, and Regina rushed out, throwing herself into Douglas's arms.
Douglas didn't know what had happened between them in the past few hours.
At this moment, Regina clung to him desperately, causing him to feel relief and joy at having her back.
But when his gaze fell on Philip sitting in the car, it quickly darkened.
Philip knew he had to pay the price for these stolen hours.
But so what?
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have run off. My mind was a mess. I don't know why I called him. I don't know why I ran out. Let's go home, okay?" Regina said urgently, tears streaming down her face.
"Okay, let's go home." Douglas stroked her soft hair and kissed her forehead. "Don't be afraid. In a few days, everything will be fine. After the surgery, you'll be okay."
In this repeated memory disorder, there were only two days left until the surgery.
This day was what Douglas had been looking forward to and also what he feared.
That day, he told Elizabeth he wanted to go to the cathedral.
Elizabeth was very shocked.
Douglas had never believed in these things before. Even several times, when he dropped her off at the church, he just sat in the car, unwilling to step onto the ground.
But now, he said he wanted to go there.
