Chapter 708 Uncle's Understanding
"Hey Dad, let's see how long Teddy can sit," Patrick said, keeping a close eye on his son.
Patrick couldn't help but watch his precious boy. He'd noticed Teddy had a bit of a dramatic streak. If there were parents or grandparents around, Teddy would whine, cry, and demand to be held. But when he was alone on the couch, he would just sit there quietly, occasionally looking around.
Patrick placed Teddy on the couch and stood a short distance away, making sure Teddy couldn't see him but he could still keep an eye on him. If anything happened, Patrick could step in immediately.
Shawn had stepped out for a moment, and soon everyone else returned to the living room, abandoning their cherry sauce and wine. They all watched the adorable little face on the couch, still searching for his family. At that moment, Teddy was sitting perfectly still and steady!
Cindy quickly started recording Teddy's cute little moment. Molly, who was soaking in the tub and watching a show, got the message. She immediately grabbed her phone, wrapped herself in a towel, and ran out without drying off. She pulled Sebastian off the bed. "Sebastian, look! Teddy can sit now. He's sitting all alone in the living room, looking so helpless and pitiful." Teddy was always the family's darling, no matter where he went. This was the first time he was alone without anyone to keep him company, and Molly felt a pang of sympathy.
Sebastian, however, was more focused on Molly wrapped in a towel and swallowed hard.
At the Olteran Manor, Vera whispered to Patrick, "How long has he been sitting?"
"For a while now. I wanted to see how long he could go without crying, and he's doing great," Patrick said, surprised at how long Teddy had lasted.
Vera, with a soft heart, said, "Teddy's still little. Let's not make him sit too long."
Just then, the family members who had been secretly watching all came out and appeared in front of Teddy.
"Teddy!" Seeing the familiar faces, Teddy broke into an excited smile.
Vera knelt down, hugged Teddy, and kissed him. "Teddy can sit now. We can fulfill your dad's promise to you."
Patrick lifted Teddy high, proudly holding him. He turned to the house staff and said, "Tell the kitchen to make something special for Teddy tonight."
Susan, thinking of her sauce, quickly ran off.
Vincent insisted on holding Teddy and started a playful tug-of-war with Patrick. "Patrick, let me hold him. I haven't held a baby in almost twenty years."
Patrick rolled his eyes.
Teddy, who also liked Vincent, babbled in his arms, saying things no one could understand.
Vincent didn't care what Teddy was saying. He mimicked Teddy's babbling, and the two seemed to have no trouble communicating.
Vera, watching from the side, teased, "Teddy learned to sit, and the whole family is over the moon."
Cindy added, "If Teddy achieves something great in the future, Patrick's friends from all over the world will come to celebrate."
As Vera helped Susan pit cherries, she chatted, "Right now, he just cries and fusses. Who knows how he'll be when he starts school? I hope he inherits his dad's brains and not mine."
"Don't worry. Randall was a handful when he was little, but Patrick straightened him out," Cindy said, confident in Patrick's abilities.
Since Randall was six, she had hardly been involved in his upbringing. Patrick had taken care of it all.
At first, Randall used to talk back to Patrick, but after a few spankings, he stood at attention whenever he saw Patrick.
Susan said, "Randall wasn't afraid to rebel. He just didn't want to upset you by not listening."
Vera and Cindy exchanged glances and laughed.
When women get together, especially married ones, they inevitably talk about their kids. "Every time I see you three, I regret not having a daughter. Vera, you and Patrick could try for a girl in a couple of years when Teddy is older. Not having a daughter is something I really regret at my age."
Vera replied, "It's not like I can just decide to have a girl. What if we have another boy?"
After finishing with the cherries, Cindy handed them to Susan and said, "I thought the same way back then. When Randall was two or three, Vincent and I were too scared to try for another."
The unmarried Susan didn't join in the conversation about kids. She stared at the cherry pits in a daze.
After a while, she ran back to the living room with the cherry pits. "Grandpa, let's plant a cherry tree! Then we can eat cherries from our own tree."
Shawn was silent for a few seconds before clapping his hands. "Let's do it!"
In his bedroom, Randall watched Susan digging outside. He got up and went out. "What are you up to now?"
"Planting a tree."
"Where's the tree?" Randall asked.
Susan pointed to a spot where the cherry pits were wrapped in paper.
Randall was speechless.
Vincent took Teddy outside to watch the commotion. He knew Teddy loved to be where the action was.
They worked until evening.
Susan's jam was ready, and Randall had stored the wine in a cool place. They started snacking on the roasted nuts in the evening.
However, the family's excitement reached a peak when it was time for Teddy to eat rice cereal.
Even the butler came over to watch Teddy. Molly, lying in bed, insisted on watching the video.
Teddy sat on his mom's lap as Patrick blew on a spoonful of rice cereal to cool it down and then fed it to Teddy.
Before the spoon even reached his mouth, Teddy opened wide.
Patrick fed him the cereal, and the whole family watched Teddy's reaction.
He smacked his lips and frowned.
Patrick scooped another spoonful, blew on it, and fed it to Teddy.
Teddy refused, leaning back in disgust.
Patrick held the spoon to Vera's mouth, and Teddy opened his mouth for her. Taking advantage of the moment, Patrick fed him another spoonful.
But it was the same taste, and Teddy was even more disgusted.
Molly laughed but tried to keep it quiet. Sebastian hugged her from behind, his body close to hers, and asked in a low voice, "What are you watching?"
Molly quickly ended the video call, worried that her family might see the undressed Sebastian. "Teddy's eating rice cereal for the first time. He's so cute, hating the cereal but still trying to eat it. He grabs for it, but then hates it once it's in his mouth."
Sebastian wrapped his long arms around Molly's waist, their skin touching, and teased her, "Men prefer meat."
Molly blinked. "Should I go get you some pork from the kitchen?"
Vera and Patrick didn't want to expose Teddy's face, but they wanted to share the moment. So they took a picture of Teddy's chubby little hand grabbing the bowl, with Patrick's big hand on the other side. The picture said it all.
"Congratulations, Teddy! Your first bite of rice cereal was fed by Dad," read the caption, with the photo showing father and son’s hands fighting over the bowl.
