Chapter 809 Teddy Goes to Find Uncle
Molly sat in the cab, trying to reassure Teddy. "Don't worry, if I can't carry you, Sebastian can."
She closed the door and gave the driver an address.
It was a scorching day, and the cab's air conditioning was on full blast. Teddy, however, insisted on having the window down, his little hands gripping the edge as he watched the streets go by.
Tears had dried on his face, leaving behind words he wanted to say but couldn't.
They arrived at the station.
Molly carried Teddy inside. The security guard noticed and asked, "Molly, whose adorable kid is this? Let me hold him."
Molly handed Teddy over, but he clung to her shirt, crying at the sight of a stranger.
Molly gave up and held him close, patting his back lovingly. "This is Patrick's son, Teddy. He got into trouble at home and his mom spanked him, so I brought him here to complain to Sebastian."
She tilted her head and kissed Teddy's cheek. "Teddy, let's ask Sebastian if getting spanked by your mom counts as abuse, okay? Maybe we can get a little sympathy and make your mom feel guilty."
Teddy nodded eagerly.
"Is Sebastian here?" Molly asked.
"Mr. Chase? I haven't seen him leave, so he should be."
Molly nodded and carried Teddy into the courtyard, teasing him along the way. "Teddy, when you see Sebastian, start crying to make sure he knows you're the 'victim,' okay?"
As they walked, Marigold emerged from the neighboring building. She had been in Zandonick for a week and was quickly getting used to the place. After all, she had gone to college here before moving back home after graduation. Now, she had found an opportunity to return, and while some things had changed, others remained the same.
Dressed casually, she walked through the courtyard and suddenly bumped into Molly, who was busy comforting Teddy and coaching him on how to act pitiful.
Both women stopped in their tracks, staring at each other in shock.
Teddy, curious about why Molly had stopped, turned his head to look.
Marigold's gaze fell on the chubby Teddy, while Molly stood frozen, unsure of what to say.
Marigold quickly masked her unease with a smile. "What a cute kid."
Molly caught her nervousness. "Thanks."
Marigold continued on her way, and Molly turned to find Sebastian.
As soon as she entered the office, she heard Sam whistle. "Look who’s here! The little prince of the Olteran family, Teddy!"
Molly's earlier coaching paid off. Teddy, seeing a room full of strangers, immediately pouted and started wailing.
The crying caught Sebastian's attention, and he came out of his office with a smile. "Teddy, here to see me again?"
He walked over and took Teddy from Molly. "Tell me, why are you crying this time?"
"Mommy," Teddy managed to say.
Molly gave Sebastian a complicated look and explained, "He got spanked by Vera at home and came to report it to you."
Sebastian wiped Teddy's tears and held him close. "Come on, tell me where your mom spanked you and why."
Teddy, unable to articulate, looked frustrated. Molly entered the office and closed the door, hesitating before speaking.
"Sebastian, I heard from the security guard that we have new colleagues next door?"
Sebastian seemed momentarily flustered and adjusted his hold on Teddy. "Yeah, after the last meeting, two new people were assigned here."
Molly nodded, understanding. They had attended that meeting together.
She recalled how Sebastian had acted strangely that day, coming to find her during lunch and seeming distracted during their conversations.
Molly said nothing, sitting on the sofa and handing Sebastian's pen to Teddy to play with. As expected, Teddy quieted down.
The office fell silent.
Teddy examined the pen, recognizing it from his dad's office. He wondered if it tasted good.
Soon, Sam called out, "Sebastian, the station downstairs needs you."
Sebastian placed Teddy on Molly's lap. "You two stay here and play. I'll be back soon."
Sebastian left, and Molly, holding Teddy with one hand, grabbed a sheet of paper from the printer and sat down.
Even before Teddy could walk or talk, Molly had been teaching him to write.
"Teddy, you can't just rely on your parents being Patrick and Vera. You have over six thousand days until adulthood, and I need to make sure you start strong."
When Sebastian returned, he saw Teddy "studying."
Seeing Sebastian, Teddy started to cry again.
"Molly, I need to go out for a bit. Do you want to come with me or wait here?"
Molly replied, "I'll stay here with the kid. We've made our complaint, and we'll head back soon. Vera said he can't be away from home too long, or I won't be able to handle him."
Sebastian said, "I don't feel comfortable with you taking a cab alone with the kid. I'll drop you off on my way."
Zoey and Max, along with the Chase family, adored Teddy.
Molly agreed.
Sebastian called out to his team, "Sam, get the car. David, come with me."
As they left, Marigold returned. Sebastian, holding Teddy, instinctively turned to shield Molly from seeing her.
But he forgot about the car's rearview mirror, and Molly saw everything.
He placed Teddy in the car through the window.
Sebastian led the way, letting Sam drive ahead while he took a detour to drop Molly and Teddy off at home.
After dropping them off, he left again without entering the house.
Molly returned home, hearing Teddy's voice as she entered the yard.
"Molly, did you steal Vera's Teddy again?" Ellie asked cheerfully.
Molly replied innocently, "No, he got into trouble at home, so I brought him here to escape."
In the unfamiliar place, Teddy clung to Molly, refusing to be held by anyone else.
In the afternoon, Vera called, worried. "Molly, it's time to bring Teddy back. He needs to eat."
Molly replied, "We're eating right now."
Zoey had personally cooked for Teddy, making boiled eggs. Though they were overcooked, the aroma filled the house.
On a video call, Vera watched as Teddy sat on Ellie's lap at the Chase Manor, being fed by Timothy, happily eating each bite. "I saw Vincent's video earlier. I just love this Teddy."
