Chapter 848 Patrick Knew It Was Heartbreaking
Molly hit the brakes and stopped beside them. "Vera, I asked you to help me out, not to suffer like this."
Vera was confused. "We're not suffering." They were just sitting by the roadside, watching Jonathan inside the shop the whole time.
Molly was worked up. "Not suffering? In this heat? I asked you to help me keep an eye on Jonathan, not to stay outside in such high temperatures. If Patrick sees his precious suffering like this, he'll be heartbroken, and I'll be in trouble!"
Teddy, who was almost asleep in her arms, was suddenly startled awake by Molly.
His little face scrunched up, and out came an adorable, aggrieved cry.
Molly felt bad for the two family members and blamed herself. This morning she had picked out a coffee shop and should have let Vera sit inside, leisurely drinking coffee. Seeing them from far away broke her heart - if Patrick saw this, he'd definitely be devastated.
Teddy sat up crying, and Vera used a small fan to cool him down.
Hearing Teddy's milky little cries, Molly's heart melted. She picked up the warm little Teddy and kissed him several times. "Vera, get in the car quick, I'll drive you two home."
Holding Teddy, Molly opened the trunk and kissed him several more times.
Teddy woke up fully and, seeing his little toy car being put in the trunk, cried out a couple more times before Molly carried him into the car.
Vera then got in the back seat too. "Molly, don't be upset. The two of us were doing just fine, didn't feel wronged at all."
"Vera, Patrick's so worried about you getting sun that he installed a shade pavilion by the pool. When you go out, he's afraid you'll get too hot, so he personally drives you everywhere. Here you are, behind Patrick's back, getting sun and going out - if you two get a headache or heatstroke or something, I'm done for."
"It's not that dramatic. Plus, you're being way too polite with me. Remember when we traveled together during summer break, and you dragged me to the beach at noon in the summer heat? You didn't worry about me getting sun then."
Molly was speechless thinking about the past.
There was nobody at the beach at noon, so she and Vera went, and they both came back with sunburned skin. When they got home, Patrick and her mom applied medicine to her skin every day.
Vera continued, "Teddy and I stay home every day and it gets pretty boring. Coming out to get some sun occasionally, we both sleep soundly at night. Right, Teddy?"
Teddy cooperatively hummed in agreement.
Before Molly could blame herself more, Vera got straight to the point. "Molly, focus on what matters. Isn't Jonathan having a meal with someone? He's been in there all this time, and when he went in, he was alone. One person doesn't eat for this long - don't you want to see who he's eating with?"
Molly held Teddy, who was sucking on his little hand, and looked out the window. "That's a good question. I want to know too."
Around 3 PM, Jonathan walked out of the shop with several people Molly didn't recognize standing beside him.
She grabbed her phone and quickly snapped some photos.
They seemed to have had a good conversation, all smiling as they said goodbye.
After they separated, Molly was about to drive and follow, with Teddy still lying in her arms.
Vera clapped her hands from the back seat. "Teddy, come to Mommy, let Molly drive."
Molly quickly hit the gas to follow, but her driving skills weren't great - she wasn't good at tailing people.
Plus with all the cars on the road and heavy traffic, one moment of inattention could easily lead to a collision.
After learning to drive, Molly had been overconfident that she could drive on any road. Watching Jonathan's car ahead, she drove after him.
But halfway there, a car suddenly changed lanes in front. Molly immediately hit the brakes, but didn't press all the way down. With a "thud," she made intimate contact with the rear of the car ahead.
Both people in the car were stunned. Did they just rear-end someone?
Teddy was delighted - bumper cars? He excitedly kicked his little legs, laughing happily.
Vera's heart was in her throat. After getting out, she saw the sedan ahead had a dent in its rear, while Molly's car didn't look too damaged.
Then a pot-bellied man got out of the car. "How do you drive?"
Molly also got out and looked at the collision point. "You changed lanes without signaling, and at such a close distance, you shouldn't have been passing at all."
Jonathan had already disappeared ahead. Molly hadn't expected that her first time driving with Vera and Teddy would result in a rear-end collision.
Usually the two looked like adults, but in this moment, both were completely lost.
The man looked at his car's rear. "Ten thousand dollars, settle privately. I need to replace the bumper."
Vera was speechless. Even though she didn't know much about cars, she could tell the guy was trying to scam them.
Molly said, "It's not even clear whose fault it is yet, and you're asking me to pay?"
The man, seeing two young women who seemed dazed after getting out of their car, and driving a luxury car worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, said, "How did you get your license? In rear-end collisions, it's always the back car's full responsibility."
Molly replied, "Did you write the test questions? Did you make the laws? If you're so capable, why are you driving around in a junky car trying to scam people?"
"You..."
Because the two cars collided, traffic behind them was backing up, and many people had to change lanes.
Before long, a woman got out of the passenger seat, looked at the car, and started arguing with Molly on the roadside. "Ten thousand is too little. We bought this car new two years ago for almost two hundred thousand dollars. It's never been in an accident. I'd say even twenty thousand wouldn't be enough compensation."
The two were speechless.
Vera immediately took out her phone and called the police. "Hello, I need to report an incident."
Molly glanced at the woman in front of her, and Alan instantly came to mind. "If my car is found to have any defects, selling your car wouldn't be enough to cover the damages!"
Someone behind them honked. "Stop blocking the road."
After Vera finished calling the police, she soon saw the couple arguing with Molly, with the man even pushing Molly's shoulder. She immediately rushed forward and handed the child to Molly. "Try touching her again!"
The man raised his hand and pushed Vera's shoulder. "Girls these days are so tough. So what if I touched you?"
Vera quickly and skillfully grabbed the man's arm in front of everyone, pressed on his pressure point, and pushed his face against the rear window of the car.
In the hot summer, the car's exterior was scorching from the sun.
When the man's face touched it, he cried out in pain from the heat.
Vera's eyes lowered. The cute girl said through gritted teeth, "After becoming a mom, I decided to take the gentle route and not hit people. You just had to ask for it, didn't you!"
Teddy watched his mom's sharp, quick, and decisive moves, his little mouth falling open. He loved it!
