Chapter 788 Cautious Molly
Randall got home just as the sun was setting. He walked into his apartment and saw his roommates lined up in the bathroom, waiting to freshen up. "Hey, Randall! Where've you been? We wanted to invite you to dinner, but you were MIA."
Randall replied, "College is on break. I took my girlfriend home today."
His roommates knew Randall had a girlfriend, and some had even met her. They often said the guy in the master bedroom had a particularly beautiful girlfriend. One of them, who worked as a trainee at a film company, exaggerated, "She's way prettier than most people at my company. She's got a unique look, naturally beautiful without makeup, and stunning with it."
Randall smiled, accepting their compliments about his girlfriend.
Randall joined a WhatsApp group chat with his roommates, and some even tried to find his girlfriend through his profile picture.
Back in his bedroom, Randall enjoyed the convenience of having his own private bathroom. It was small, but it was enough.
He looked at himself in the mirror, unable to pinpoint where his feelings of loneliness and sadness were coming from. He had a vague idea—it was knowing that no one would be waiting at the company entrance to bring him breakfast in the morning, and no one would be there to pick him up after work and walk him home.
Being together with someone for a long time can become addictive; being alone, on the other hand, could feel a bit lonely.
After quickly freshening up, his phone rang with a video call. "Randall, are you home yet?"
Randall heard the voice and smiled.
Even when he was alone, hearing "Randall" always lifted his spirits. He didn't expect it to have the same effect over the internet.
Night fell, and the moon hung high in the sky.
At the Olteran Manor, Vera was taking a bath while Patrick and their son Teddy were having some father-son bonding time on the bed.
Teddy was sitting on Patrick's neck, drooling and enthusiastically gnawing on Patrick's face, making it impossible for Patrick to escape.
Vera appeared after her bath and saw the scene on the bed. "Teddy, you're going to suffocate your dad with your weight."
Teddy continued excitedly, calling out "Daddy" while gnawing away.
"Patrick, tomorrow when you go to work, can I catch a ride to my parents' house?"
Patrick asked, "Is there something going on?"
"Yeah, nothing major. Just drop me off on your way."
Patrick said, "Should we leave Teddy at home with Dad?"
"No way. Dad's getting old, and if something happens, it would be a problem. Teddy doesn't play with the housekeepers, and Cindy has her own things to do. I'm on break, so I can't ask her to babysit. I'll take Teddy with me in the stroller."
After finishing her skincare routine, Vera roughly grabbed Teddy and held him in her arms.
When Teddy was born, Vera had been anxious seeing the doctor handle him so roughly, thinking Teddy was a delicate little treasure. But after becoming a mom, Vera realized the doctor's handling was nothing compared to her own.
The next morning, Shawn watched as Patrick and his family headed out. "Going back to your parents' place again?"
Vera was half-squatting, applying sunscreen to Teddy in the stroller and putting on his sun hat. "We'll be back this afternoon, Dad."
Shawn was relieved to know they weren't leaving for good and didn't ask further.
They arrived at the Linister Villa just as Warren was about to leave for work. Teddy's return almost made Warren late for his morning meeting.
Brianna smiled. "Your dad was talking about you last night, saying he missed you. And now you're back."
Molly drove her mom to the office during the morning rush hour, yawning frequently.
"Don't just sit in the office this week. Go out and check the stores," Ellie advised.
Molly nodded, "Don't worry, Mom. I got it." She yawned again.
Ellie asked, "What time did you go to bed?"
Molly replied, "I stayed up until midnight watching a drama with Grandma."
Ellie sighed, "You know you have work the next day, yet you stayed up so late. Sebastian should have stopped you."
At the office, Molly watered the plants on her desk, clocked in, and started her day.
She had adapted to the busy work life, spending the morning reviewing data on her computer, printing reports for Ellie, and applying for permission to visit the stores.
She loved shopping, a habit she picked up from accompanying Ellie on shopping trips as a child. Ellie would dress herself up and make Molly look pretty too.
Everyone loves beauty, and Molly was no exception. When Ellie got busy, Sebastian took over. Gradually, Molly became a fashion-forward individual.
Her wardrobe was filled with clothes—fashionable outfits, casual sportswear, elegant dresses, and everyday clothes. Whether from online stores, physical shops, fashion shows, or magazine covers, if she liked it, she bought it. Her closet was packed to the brim.
At the Olteran Manor, Molly and Randall had the most clothes in the family.
That day, Molly took a file and went to a large mall, heading straight to a store under the Yanmo brand for an inspection.
She wore high heels and dressed herself in a mature, intellectual style, making it hard to guess her real age or mental maturity.
After inspecting one store, Molly didn't leave but wandered around, casually shopping.
After one store, there was another. Molly drove to the next large mall.
When Molly appeared, the sales staff got nervous, and the store manager was very respectful. They all knew the woman in front of them was the CEO's daughter and daughter-in-law, the future CEO, and Patrick's younger sister.
Molly had been at the company long enough for everyone to know she was the Olteran family's princess, the Chase family's adopted daughter and daughter-in-law.
Some even made up a story that she married Sebastian from the Chase family out of gratitude.
At noon, Molly didn't go back for lunch but continued her inspections into the afternoon.
"Why aren't these new sheer blouses selling well?" Molly looked at the inventory records and found there was still a lot of stock. Although it didn't seem like a big issue now, Molly had inspected six stores that day, and three had excess stock. When half the stores had this problem, Molly became cautious.
The sales staff were nervous and didn't know how to answer. They couldn't explain it, but customers tried them on and didn't buy.
Molly was strict about business. "Customers don't buy clothes for a reason. What's the most common feedback you've heard?"
"Not satisfied," Molly paused, the answer making things difficult for everyone.
Soon, more customers arrived. Molly said, "Go ahead and help them, and recommend the new products."
The sales staff understood Molly's intention and went to greet the customers.
Molly closed the inventory book and wandered around, looking at other clothes in the store.
"Miss, this sheer blouse is our latest product, made using traditional techniques. Would you like to try it?"
"Sure, I'll give it a try."
The afternoon crowd could reveal issues that the quiet Monday morning couldn't. So Molly stayed at the store for a long time.
