Chapter 728 Intentional Complaints
Randall read the email carefully, then finally called Patrick.
In his office, Patrick saw his phone ringing on the desk. He picked it up instinctively but ended up hanging up.
Randall put down his phone, his previously relieved heart tightening again.
He wiped the moisture from the corner of his eye. Because he cared about Patrick's opinion, getting Patrick's support meant more to him than anyone else's.
Then, Randall gave a self-deprecating smile. He had angered Patrick; how could he expect his support now?
The next second, Randall's phone rang. He quickly picked it up, but seeing it was Jack and not Patrick, a fleeting look of disappointment crossed his face. "Jack."
"Randall, you got the email. Come to the office to handle your resignation procedures."
"Okay."
After disappearing for a few days, Randall reappeared in front of everyone, looking much more mature. Previously, he seemed like a carefree big kid, but now talking to him felt like talking to a peer.
Randall went to the new office Patrick had arranged for him. As he entered, Jack said, "This desk and chair were custom-ordered overseas by Mr. Olteran, just like his own. Too bad you won't be using them, and we don't dare to either."
Randall asked, "Is Patrick still here?"
"No, he's still in his office."
Randall hesitated for a moment. "I see."
He carried a box out the door, looked towards Patrick's office, put the box down, and walked over to knock.
Patrick watched Randall through the surveillance, the knocking seeming to echo in his heart. "Come in."
Randall hesitated, almost too afraid to face Patrick again.
After a few seconds, he pushed the door open and appeared.
After many days, the two faced each other again.
"Patrick, I'm sorry," Randall apologized, his eyes red.
Patrick's heart was like a stone. "You chose this path. No matter how hard it gets, you deal with it. From today, there's no place for you at the Olteran Group."
Randall nodded, wiping away his tears. "Patrick, I won't come home until I've achieved something. I don't deserve to be your nephew."
Seeing the tears in Randall's eyes, Patrick snapped, "Pathetic! No one in this world cares about your tears or your promises."
As Randall left, he glanced one last time at Patrick, who continued working without acknowledging him. Resolute, he pushed the door open and left.
After Randall left, Patrick angrily slammed his laptop shut.
At the Linister Villa, Vera came to pick up Teddy after school.
Teddy sat on the couch, playing with Vera's parasol, undisturbed, lost in his world. Warren watched Teddy closely.
Through the well-informed Molly, Vera already knew about Randall being fired.
She indirectly learned about Randall's decision. "Dad, can I ask you something? If a cybersecurity company approached you for investment, would you invest?"
"No."
"Why not?"
"There are many companies, but none are big enough to interest me. I don't understand this field, and I won't invest in people I don't trust. Plus, it's a high-barrier, tech-driven industry. Our company can't judge the technical quality of their products. Without industry background and technical support, it's impossible to predict future returns."
After a while, Teddy put the parasol in his mouth to chew on.
Warren quickly took the parasol from Teddy's mouth, then held the pouting, about-to-cry Teddy lovingly. "Teddy, are you hungry? Grandpa will get you something else to eat."
Vera sat on the couch, still chatting with Molly on her phone.
Molly had asked Ellie the same question, and Ellie had also rejected it outright.
They summarized their parents' reasons for rejection and sent them to Randall.
Not long after, when Patrick came to pick them up, Vera handed Teddy to Patrick to feed.
Randall found a place to stay and called his family in the evening to inform them of his decision, including his resignation.
Randall's refusal to come home worried Cindy.
She even called Vera, hoping Vera could persuade Randall. "I managed to bring Vincent back, why won't Randall come home?"
Cindy said, "Vera, please help convince him."
Vera called Randall with the task at hand. "Why won't you come home?"
"I find you all annoying. Have you ever seen an entrepreneur staying home every day, being served by maids, and pampered by parents?"
The familiar tone, the familiar cheeky attitude—it was the same old Randall.
"I'll give you the maid's part. But think carefully before you say your parents pamper you. They love Teddy more than you, you know!"
Vera laughed as she spoke to Randall.
After the banter, Randall knew Vera was sent by Cindy to persuade him. Randall said, "Vera, do me a favor. Hold Teddy more often and visit my parents. They miss me without a child at home."
"You're not coming home?"
Randall replied, "No, you and Patrick visit often."
Vera asked again, "Don't tell me you're not coming home because you're mad at Patrick."
Randall looked out the hotel window, thinking of the angry Patrick. "I'm not mad."
"Alright, I can't control you two anyway. You two, big Patrick and little Patrick, just don't let Teddy become mini Patrick." Vera glanced at Patrick, who was feeding Teddy on the couch, and made a deliberate complaint for both Patrick and Randall to hear.
After hanging up, Vera sat next to Patrick. "Randall's not coming home."
"I don't care," Patrick said coldly, looking at Teddy.
Vera added, "Don't turn Teddy into another you."
Patrick stayed silent.
Randall was temporarily staying at a hotel, and Susan insisted on visiting him.
So Randall found a time to pick her up after school.
Susan ran out of the school gate, seeing the familiar car and the familiar person standing by it. She quickened her pace, running with open arms. "Randall~"
Randall was hugged tightly. Although he was happy to see Susan, he felt awkward. Ever since Susan became his girlfriend, he felt shy around her.
"People are watching. What's with the hugging?" Randall separated from Susan.
Susan's cheeks were pink, and she had a light sweat on her temples. Knowing Randall was picking her up, she couldn't focus on her last class, her mind already outside the window. She ran out of school like the wind.
"Randall, Vera often hugs Patrick at the school gate."
"They're married."
Susan felt confident. "And we're boyfriend and girlfriend."
