Chapter 818 Not Really Wanting Mr. Olteran's Friendship

Patrick confronted him, "You know exactly why you went to Zandonick. Whether it was to see my son or for some other reason, you know the truth. Right now, I'm focused on Vera and Teddy, and I don't have time to deal with your business.

"If you can wait, then stay in Zandonick. If not, buy a ticket and fly back. Don't waste your time here."

Scott shot back, "Oh, so only you have a son, and only your son is adorable. Patrick, when I have a kid, and you come to see them, I'll treat you the same way."

Mr. Olteran scoffed, "By the time you have a kid, I might already have a second one."

Feeling belittled, Scott snapped, "Just you wait!"

After hanging up, Patrick handed his phone to Teddy, who started gnawing on it. This was typical behavior for Teddy, the Olteran family’s little rascal—scratching Patrick's chair, climbing on his shoes, chewing his phone, and even nibbling on his face.

Vera got out of bed to change clothes, preparing for their afternoon outing. "Honey, who was that on the phone?"

"Scott went to Zandonick to see the kids. Since we're not home, I told him to wait."

Vera glanced at Teddy, who was engrossed in chewing the phone. "I don't get it. What's so special about him that everyone seems to love him?"

Scott hung up the phone and looked at the police station nearby, cursing Patrick under his breath. "No wonder Ian never hangs out with you in Zandonick. Damn guy treats friends like this. I'll show him—let's see if his second child comes before my first."

Scott dialed Marigold, who was busy in a meeting, and promptly ignored the call.

Ernest was analyzing a case, with Sebastian invited to sit in and listen. "Sebastian, based on the forensic report, go to the nearby town and check for missing persons. Kesha, you come with me to the crime scene for an investigation. Mr. Chase, do you have anything to add?"

Sebastian, exhausted from an all-nighter, had bloodshot eyes. He spoke with a hint of fatigue, "The counterfeit money case is significant. The denominations are small, mostly circulating in the market, making it hard to trace. After urgently reporting to the chief last night, he instructed that the body found near the factory should not be disclosed to the public. The cause of death and identity are unknown, and it might be related to the counterfeit money, so we don't want the media involved. I've already had David handle the residents who were watching last night."

Ernest understood Sebastian's point. "You deal with the media. No victim information will be disclosed. Everyone else, continue with your cases."

After giving instructions, Ernest praised Marigold.

Marigold's phone rang again. As others applauded her, she glanced at her phone and hung up.

Ernest asked, "Marigold, if you're busy, go ahead and take the call. Your phone's been ringing for a while."

"Just a telemarketer, not important." She returned to her desk to organize files.

Outside, Scott stood at the police station entrance after three unsuccessful calls. He remembered being mistaken for a kidnapper before and worried that if he went in, the officers might recognize him and reveal his past to Marigold, embarrassing him.

If it weren't for his godson's antics, he wouldn't be standing here, hesitating.

Just then, Molly arrived in a taxi. She got out, looking displeased, ready to confront Sebastian. If he explained well, she might give him another chance. If not, she had decided, "Divorce isn't shameful."

"Fine, I'll divorce him. I'll flaunt myself in front of Sebastian, find a male model, wear sexy lingerie every day, and drive him crazy..." Molly thought as she walked.

A man in sunglasses noticed Molly heading towards the station and guessed she worked there. He approached her, "Excuse me, could you help me with something? Wait, you look familiar." Scott removed his sunglasses, trying to recall where he had seen her.

Molly, wary of the stranger, asked, "What do you want?"

Scott hesitantly asked, "Molly?"

Molly was puzzled, "How do you know me? Who are you?"

Scott stepped closer, "Hi, remember Patrick?"

"Patrick? You mean Patrick's son, Teddy? I'm one of Teddy's godfathers. Patrick and I... well, we're sort of friends." Scott, still resentful, was reluctant to admit his friendship with Patrick.

Molly, encountering a 'familiar stranger,' asked, "So, who are you?"

"I'm Scott."

"You're Scott?" Molly didn't recognize him, but the name was familiar.

Scott nodded, "Yes, that's me."

Molly was surprised. Patrick knew such a handsome Scott.

"Sebastian lied. He said you weren't good-looking."

Scott replied, "He's always like that. He doesn't appreciate beauty."

"I agree." Molly turned away from the station. "What brings you here?"

"Uh... nothing much. Let's go. Haven't had lunch yet, right? I'll treat you. Patrick is such a jerk..."

Molly turned and followed Scott.

A while later, as Sebastian was leaving the station, Ernest suggested, "Mr. Chase, since we're all going to the same place, we can share a car. Two people can fit, and four can fit in one car, too. Fewer cars mean less exhaust, for the sake of our environment."

Before Sebastian could agree, Ernest called Marigold to join them in Sebastian's car.

In the car, Ernest noticed a pink bag in the back seat filled with various items. "Mr. Chase, what's this?"

Sebastian glanced at it and explained, "Molly's makeup bag. She overslept this morning and did her makeup in the car, then left the bag here."

Ernest looked at the woman's items and remarked, "Women are so troublesome. Marigold, do you have this many cosmetics?"

Marigold replied seriously, "I'm old. I'm past the age of caring about makeup."

As they left, a police officer ran to open the door. "Mr. Chase, Mr. Chase, Molly was here looking for you. She seemed to leave with a stranger."

Sebastian asked his subordinate to stop the car. He leaned over, looking out the window at the officer. "Who did Molly leave with?"

"I don't know. Just a man, dressed neatly, wearing sunglasses. They talked briefly at the door, and then Molly left with him."
