Chapter 718 Susan Clarified Her Feelings

Molly and Vera came out from the back, helping Shawn as they moved forward.

Randall, carrying Teddy, casually walked towards the dining room. He passed a servant and said, "Hey, can you get Susan for dinner?"

Soon, Susan showed up in the dining room, her head down. She sat next to Randall, her long hair covering half her face, making it hard to see her expression.

Randall glanced at Susan and then nudged Teddy towards her. "Wanna play with Teddy? I just got him back for you."

Teddy's hand was ready to cause some mischief! As he reached for Susan's hair, Randall grabbed his hand. "Are you looking for trouble?"

Randall, acting all casual, teased, "Teddy talks all day, but he can't even speak right."

Vera and Molly exchanged a look, silently admiring Randall's strong acting skills and mental toughness.

When Teddy tried to approach Susan again, she dodged. This time, Randall noticed something was off. "Susan, what's up?" he asked, concerned.

Susan shook her head.

Randall was about to lift Susan's hair to check her face when Patrick took Teddy's special chair and called, "Teddy, come sit by Dad." Patrick walked to the other side of the table and took Teddy from Randall's arms.

Seeing the hair tie on Vera's wrist, Randall called out, "Vera, let Susan use your hair tie. It's hard to eat with her hair down."

Vera untied it and handed it to Randall. "This hair tie is just for Teddy to play with. Here."

Randall stood up, bent over, and took the hair tie across the long table, then handed it to Susan. "Put it on."

"Randall, I don't want it."

Randall heard the heaviness in Susan's voice and, worried, lifted her hair himself. "Did Teddy mess with you? Did he bite you?"

"No." Randall couldn't figure out why Susan's mood had changed so drastically.

Soon, the whole family was seated, and Teddy's food was placed on his tray.

Shawn raised his glass and spoke, "Today, it's just us family. No big events, no small ones. Let's celebrate Randall's promotion to Secretary General."

In the festive atmosphere, Randall hid his sadness and joked, "So I'm the star today, huh? You guys are really lacking in sincerity! At least give me a gift or something, not just a meal."

Vera felt a pang of sympathy for Randall.

Molly, who usually loved to joke, didn't know what to say to lighten the mood and kept her head down, silent.

Cindy pointed at Randall and laughed, "A meal is enough. We're family now. You're about to take on more responsibilities, and you still want gifts like a kid. If you want something, buy it yourself."

Patrick glanced at Vera, who was feeding Teddy, and his smile faded. "Vera, eat your meal first. Let Teddy feed himself."

Vera continued feeding Teddy, "Teddy's still young. Let's feed him first, then we can eat."

"How's Randall's drinking? He'll need it for future social events," Sebastian joked. Patrick praised Randall, "He's got a good tolerance. I've tested it; sometimes he can even outdrink me."

Randall laughed, "I'm young. Patrick's liver has been through years of drinking." He glanced at Susan beside him, seeing her head down, and felt a deep concern.

Shawn looked at Randall, feeling hopeful, "Randall, follow Patrick closely and learn all his skills. When you're older, you can take over."

Randall was about to agree when a small voice broke the lively atmosphere, "Randall doesn't like this job."

"Susan, what did you say?" Shawn thought he misheard.

Susan lifted her head, her eyes red, and looked at Shawn. "Grandpa, Randall doesn't like this job." She looked around the table, her eyes filled with tears, and said, "His dream is to work in computers, to do something in networking. Randall wants to switch fields and go to grad school. He's been secretly studying every day, working during the day, and not playing at night..."

"Susan!" Randall shouted, grabbing Susan to stop her.

Susan, having started, didn't plan to stop. Hearing the family's joy and celebration, thinking of Randall pretending to be happy, made her throat choke with sadness. "At night, he's not playing games; he's studying. On weekends, Randall doesn't waste time; he goes to the library to study. He's been secretly working hard for his dream. He's really trying."

"Come here," Randall grabbed Susan's wrist, stood up, and tried to pull her away.

Susan held onto the table, tears streaming down her face, and confessed, "Randall, I heard everything you said to Vera."

Randall stopped pulling Susan. He had...

Susan's tears fell. "Randall, you can't give up your dream because of me. I want you to do what you love. You can't be irresponsible with your life. Even if you choose to be with me, how can you guarantee we'll be together in three, five, ten years? What if you meet someone you like more? What if I meet someone I like more and don't like you anymore? What will you do?"

Susan continued, "Love isn't everything in life, Randall. You can't give up your dream because of me, or you'll regret it, and I'll feel guilty forever. Randall, I really like you, but I don't want to like you with guilt and compensation. I don't want to be your burden."

Randall clenched his teeth, his eyes red, "Shut up!"

Vera stopped feeding Teddy, tears glistening in her eyes. Teddy looked at Vera, confused, and started to cry too.

Vera quickly took Teddy out of his seat, holding him and patting his back to comfort him.

Molly kept her head down, silent.

Susan boldly looked at Patrick, whose expression was unreadable, and said, "Patrick, Randall's true passion has always been computers. You know that."

The room fell silent. Patrick's face turned frighteningly dark.

"Let him tell me himself," Patrick's voice was cold, lowering the room's temperature.

In the dining room, Susan cried, Teddy cried too, and when Vera tried to hand Teddy to Patrick, he refused to take him.
