Chapter 839 Eating Half, Exclaiming Half
Marigold immediately became curious about Vera.
Earlier in Skyview City, she had heard Scott analyze this Mrs. Olteran. "I don't believe Vera is just a pretty face with no real abilities. Otherwise, she wouldn't have won over Patrick. My good friend isn't someone who only cares about looks."
Marigold said, "But when you see someone good-looking, you can't help but take a few extra glances."
Scott nodded, "But Patrick isn't shallow. He wouldn't let her have his children just because she's pretty. Vera must have a unique charm that captured Patrick's heart right away."
As for what that was, they'd always been curious but never found out.
Later when Patrick announced he was going to be a father, Scott was actually depressed about it—he simply couldn't believe it. Patrick, who never got involved in romance, suddenly got married, then suddenly announced he was going to be a father, and soon after announced the baby was born. All the guys thought this domineering CEO would die alone, but instead he became a dad.
Because Scott talked about it so much, Marigold caught the bug too and became curious about this Mrs. Olteran she'd only heard about but never met.
"Ernest, when Mrs. Olteran goes to the police station again, make sure to give me a heads up..."
Ernest quickly cut her off, "Stop talking."
Marigold: "What's wrong?"
Ernest: "I'm afraid it might actually happen if you keep saying it."
......
When they got to the station, Ernest told Marigold to head back first. "I'm going next door to check on things. Mr. Chase probably doesn't know about what happened at his family's company yet."
Marigold nodded and left.
Meanwhile, Sebastian was tracking a suspicious person and was about to head out when he suddenly saw Ernest. "What's up?"
"Your factory caught fire."
Sebastian didn't take it seriously, thinking it was a joke. "You want Molly to fight with you?"
Ernest: "I'm not messing with you, it really caught fire. Look at the investigation file—your mom and Molly's signatures are on it."
Sebastian took the file skeptically and saw Molly's familiar handwriting, frowning.
Sam ran over from behind, "We leaving?"
Sebastian closed the file and handed it back to Ernest. "I'll find you when I get back."
He turned around and quickly got in the car to respond to the call.
Ernest didn't leave. He asked a colleague on duty, "What's Mr. Chase in such a hurry about?"
First time hearing about something with Molly, and he didn't even ask about it.
"Mr. Chase finally tracked down a lead on that big case from before. He's heading out on that."
Ernest remembered the counterfeit money case and thought about how Sebastian had been working overtime constantly lately, sometimes not even going home for days.
Ernest understood and turned to leave.
Sebastian sat back in the car, exhaustion showing in his eyes. On the way, he called Molly.
"Sebastian, what's wrong?" Molly's tone didn't sound scared at all.
Sebastian rubbed his eyes. "Why didn't you tell me about the factory?"
Molly said, "It's a small thing. Mom and I can handle it. Plus Patrick came too, so you focus on your work."
Molly's understanding made Sebastian feel uncomfortable.
"Are you coming home tonight?"
"Yes. Mom already said this is a small matter, nothing to lose sleep over."
Patrick called for her. "Sebastian, I have to go. Patrick's calling me. He lectured me as soon as he got here today. Don't worry, I definitely won't go back to the Olteran Manor with him."
After hanging up, Molly put her hands behind her back. "Patrick, I didn't cross the line."
Patrick walked up to her. "Call Dad and put his mind at ease."
"Okay."
Shawn hadn't received Molly's call and was on edge. That afternoon, a group of old folks invited him on a boat trip, but he wasn't in the mood.
It wasn't until Molly's call came through that Shawn's heart settled. "Safety first. Nothing is more important than safety. I won't tell your grandparents, but you have to call me every day."
"Don't worry, Dad. You already called Patrick over, so I'm definitely the safest. Dad, I love you."
The sudden declaration brightened Shawn's mood instantly. "When you have time, come pick Dad up and bring me home."
Molly agreed.
Patrick also received a call from Vera.
"Honey, how is everything? I saw the video online." Vera was holding their curious baby. Teddy had woken up and crawled around on the bed, humming a few times. When no one paid attention to him, he burrowed back into his mom's arms and watched the video with her.
Vera picked Teddy up with one hand. Mother and son watched the roaring flames on the phone screen together. Teddy stared, transfixed, his big eyes not blinking once.
After watching, Vera called Patrick. Teddy looked up at his mom curiously.
Patrick answered, "By the time I got there, the fire was already out. No injuries, but we lost some fabric and equipment. They're still counting up the rest of the losses."
Vera asked, "Did the police say why it suddenly caught fire?"
"We'll have to wait for the follow-up investigation."
Vera rubbed Teddy's head. "Okay. Teddy and I both woke up from our nap."
Vera put the phone on speaker and held it near Teddy's mouth. "Say hi to your daddy."
Teddy babbled randomly, curiously talking to Patrick.
Patrick had dark soot on him. "Did you sleep well, Teddy?"
"Woo-oh-oh."
Patrick chuckled. "I'll come to the office to pick you both up in a bit. Wait for Daddy at the office."
Vera: "Okay, you go ahead with your work. I'm going to get his clothes—they'll fade if I leave them in the sun any longer."
After hanging up, Vera wrapped her little caterpillar in the blanket Randall had given her and went to find Jack. "Jack, are you busy? Can you watch Teddy for me while I get the laundry?"
Jack immediately took Teddy in his arms. "Not busy! Sure thing!"
Even if he was busy, he'd have to say he wasn't. The chance to hold Teddy didn't come around for just anyone.
Taking Teddy, the baby turned to watch his mom leave and get in the elevator.
He stared blankly, then his little mouth turned down. Thinking his mom didn't want him anymore, he started crying in Jack's arms.
But somehow, Teddy's pitiful crying became adorable in everyone's eyes.
"Even when Teddy cries, he's still as cute as ever," someone in the secretary department said, instantly getting everyone's agreement.
Jack was one of Patrick's senior assistants and had heard the boss mention Teddy during business dinners. "My son is like my wife—good appetite, loves to eat. Can't leave anything in front of them. Vera can finish everything in no time, and my son can cry while eating, eating half and spilling half."
